I'm sorry but I literally died when I saw this. Mojang has literally given servers the right to charge people to enter their servers. (OK Damo calm down) OK here's the deal, it's not OK. Simply NOT OK, this is going to allow players to get more money of people as now literally one of my favorite buttons on the main menu and many others you now have to pay for. Some servers will not monetize themselves but this is horrible. I love joining multiple servers and playing on them meeting new people and having fun now every time I want to try out a new server I HAVE TO PAY. I am sorry but this is nothing short of micro-transactions in a paid game. Except this is on a MUCH larger scale. HUGE SCALE. Their are thousands or even millions of servers and the fact that I have to pay to try a server out or play on a server is BOLLOCKS. To be able to pay for every single server I play on is horrendous. My Multiplayer section is huge I love playing on servers. Looking thorough it HORRIFIES me OK. I look at them and I just think HOW MUCH MONEY WILL I HAVE TO PAY?!?! This is absolutely not OK, and I'm just gonna go ahead and say but it looks like Multiplayer is now going to be the mode which you need to pay extra for, like gems in a free-to-play mobile game. I'm sorry but if you think I will keep playing MInecraft because of this then you certainly are (link to the first words said in this post)

servers won't do that because tbh charging for SERVER ACCESS is just flat out stupid.
servers won't do that because tbh charging for SERVER ACCESS is just flat out stupid.
Well I been thinking and I think I just going to have 2 servers 1 free with low ram will most likely lag if to many players on and it will have banned mod items that make lag or people that like to abuse to destroy peoples work with such mod op items. Then the second will be a payed to join server with everything that is banned unlocked with lots of ram. I not giving free players what they want it cost to much to have lag free dedicated server like mine. It will only cost like $5 or so a month to play on the payed server though if I get more then I expect on the payed then I will make it cheaper then that maybe and have 2 servers going 1 for the free and one for the payed players.
This way the free server can have more ram maybe even lag free though that's a maybe hehe have to have at lest 20 payed players for both servers at $5 and I still will be loosing money which is fine I don't mind paying for at lest 1 entire server I just cant pay for both. If I end up loosing 1 of the servers because I loose some payed players that's ok can just go back to the 1 again with lower ran for free and more for payed.
Its kind of still pay to win though its not pvp I wanted a pvp server I just dont see payed players wanting to pay to play on a pvp server though would have to vote on that maybe at some point. Will still have some pvp stuff, but it will have to all be on the free server so everyone can join it will be rare though every now and again will have pvp on a map for them for prizes or something.
I still hate this EULA though don't forget that just I have to do things this way unless I find a better way. There will also be some sneak peak stuff on the free server so they can at lest see what they all get on the payed one it will just be locked out to everyone on that server just for viewing only.
With the recent announcement about changes to the EULA (and in particular, how they will affect multiplayer servers), many questions have arisen. Mojang has looked over numerous discussions by you, the community, and has released a new Q&A announcement, to address some of the most frequently-asked questions to come from the announcement. More many come in the future, but for now, check out these clarifying answers, direct from Mojang!
Do you have a question you would like answered about the EULA? Let's discuss it in the comments!

Please keep all discussion as civil as possible! This is a very hot topic, and we understand that there are very strong feelings about the EULA. That's okay! Open discussion is a GOOD thing! However, please avoid the following:
Name-calling
Encouraging (or claiming to engage in) EULA violations
do plugin features like charging to make an NPC guard count (not a mod)
I remember back in alpha we didnt need OP swords given through "donations" to stay on a server.
But hey end of the world you know,"Onoez I cant haz my god toolz anymoe".
To those saying their leaving because of this, no one cares you will not be missed.
The game did fine without you, one less entitled person.
So as a server owner of 1.7.9 I can say we will be compliant with the new changes, however we are a smaller, newer server, we have a $70ish running cost each month. And we make it as is with our previous buy system. That has to change to be compliant which I can and will do. However the problem I have is this. If servers like Hypixel or Mineplex get away with still selling the pay-to-win strategies they do now, then this needs to be revoked. Just because servers have connections or can find loopholes we all see what they are doing, and they should comply just like the little guy.
I can see why the EULA regulations are necessary, but at the end of the day, if my server is 18+, which it is, who is to tell an adult what they can and cant spend their own money on? Not I. And this only hurts smaller servers trying to get started out. I am not saying we can't make it, because we will. Our community is strong enough that we can handle the hit, but I feel for those smaller ones who can't. And heck with the servers like Hypixel who find work arounds that let them sell their pay to win strategies still. Only shows how this will hurt the ones that really don't deserve it, and the greedy keep being just that.
I have one specific question, if someone could answer it, that'd be great.
Are we allowed to sell ranks that give gameplay advantages for soft currency? In other words, are we allowed to make ranks that have benefits in gameplay over the other ranks, and which you can buy for the in-game currency, the virtual money you earn in the game while playing on the server?
I'd think this is a wonderful idea, if it weren't for the fact that they're allowing people to charge for access to the server. I feel like a lot of greedy jerks are going to charge for access, restricting those of us who refuse to pay more for a game we already paid for.
So, I don't really know if this has been asked yet, but does this count for private, friends only, servers? Apparently redestribution restrictions on modifications don't count if only used privately, so that's where my thought came from.

Well at least this doesn't seem to impact single player cause I was a tad concerned since they made single player in to a Client/Server type setup. It also doesn't look like it'll impact casual server setup for local lan parties and stuff.
Some people's full job is for the server many server owners will either find I new job or lose the server. And yes some people are kind (no offences)enough to donate to keep the server running unfortunately some people aren't like that and will not donate because they know they won't get anything in return so lots of servers will go down.thank you mojang thank you.:(

I have a scenario question please.
Equal gameplay to all... Does this mean "equal gameplay to all whom are online"?
My scenario is as follows... I admin on a 100% vanilla server. The server knows when there is a new donation. It states that there is a new donation by person via a tellraw and say command in command blocks. Hypothetically, would it be legal for, when a new donation occurs, everyone [online] gets 1 diamond?
I don't intend to do that, but it contains the idea / principle that I'm curious about. Does that fall into the category of "fair gameplay"?
What happens to prison servers? Can they have donor ranks and op-mines for the donors??? THAT'S THE QUESTION! I would say that at least 1/8 servers or less is a prison server, what happens to the donor ranks and their kits and stuff?
And what about donor kits wich affect gameplay: someone donates, you give them a kit. Can you do that?
**lot's of questions have to be answered
*sigh*
"Someone donates and recieves a kit" is not a donation - it's a purchase. You can't sell a kit if the kit in any way changes your gameplay to make it different than someone whom did not make a purchase.
I believe that allowing for access to certain areas of a server, like the mines, is against the Eula.

Can I charge access to a specific part of my server, such as a minigame or world?
No, you cannot charge for any part of a server other than the initial access. Once on a server, all players must have the same gameplay privileges. You may make a different server for the user to connect to which features “premium” areas, and charge for access to that server instead, but the benefits cannot carry over to your other servers.
So many people have already replied to this forum that nobody will most likely see mine but you know xD ill post anyways.
Sorry for any spelllllllllling, punctuat!on; and grammer errors when this forum is typed being Yes I did thoes on purpose. Anyways.........................
I am very angry at mojang for doing this EULA but hear me out mojang, instad of restricting items etc you should set a limit but not on how much they can donatate but on how much at a time see. If you set the limit to 100$ then no player could donate more than 100 at a time and by everyones logic not many people will donate for nothing so unless they donate like 4 times for the same thing its pretty much no benefit to them hence they wouldent do that. All server donation stores would have to lower their limit if above 100$. This 100$ this purly a example but I cant see servers lowering their highest thing to say 50$ as still is alot of money. If you lower things that normally cost say 250$ thats is like super OP then the limit says "no no 100$" then the server owner will most likely remove anything over 100$ beause "this is about to be a strong example" server owners dont feel as donate 100$ and ill give you /op which is basicly what they're giving them but in the sense of items in sense decresing pay to win servers because people arnt going to say pay 5$ for effeciency 35000 picaxe, its just not going to happen. Also my idea of the 100$ limit would be much easier to implamit than your idea and heres why.
1.) Smaller servers would be fine with having nothing above 100$ in the store
2.) If smaller networks will be happy with it as the bigger servers wont get 500$ item purchases everyday and even out thhe network a little more. Take in concideration I'd say about 95% of minecraft servers are small servers. We know the big ones, also most everyone does. Mineplex, Hypixel are as i should say the biggest. Mineplex's lowest rank to buy is 80$ I think. I mean to a small server owner 80$ will pay for their server after being upgraded for about 1-3 months depening on their choise of upgrade.
3.) This is how you would legaly have to handel the "After Aug. 1st people are violating the new Eula" you would have to give them a
(a.) Waring
(b.) Consult with them
(c.) Do some JavaCoding to disallow players to connecting to said ip
(d.) You would have to majorly assume that nobody would some how make a plugin that can bypass your ban
(e.) If say mineplex ( not hunting you guys, ur just big and its a good example because everyone knows you) makes some kinda super beef computer system or super vps network where all you would simply have todo is type a command in say the ssh console and the ip for all the servers is insta changed, the domain will auto point to their said changed ip. Then easily run a python command that spams and presses enter on an interval to change their ip every "said time" implaminting a ban would be very difficult if even possible.
Also mojang, you would have to take legal action on every small server out there that does this, and if nobody follows the eula good luck because you would have to shutdown minecraft all together and onlt allow single player worlds which would put minecraft playerbase to the dirt, we would have more 100 yr old people who like my litte pony than we would people who play minecraft.
3 part two.) If you went my way all you would havetodo is contact buycraft.net and enjin.com to set their limit for when server owners make their products to be 100$. If they try to make it over 100$ it would say in red "This item cannot be over the maximum amont set by the Mojang EULA ($100).
Sorry if i wrote this to big, I think its important for Mojang come with a argreement with their playerbase.
So that 20 dollars I spent on non cosmetic server ranks will be wasted!?!?!? [Enter Ragemode]
Oh well... I guess it is nice that I can have the same privlages as a MVP+ even though I'm just a VIP. Also buycraft is dead.
