People act like Mojang were very clear all along that it was against the EULA to profit. This is entirely not the case. Mojang invited many large server owners to Minecons to have panels. They were very encouraging. They supported what the server owners did. Then suddenly all this happened.
Of course server owners are angry and feel betrayed, Mojang suddenly completely changed their minds.
For all those complaining, you actually accepted the EULA agreements when you got MC, it doesn't matter if your fair or not, like my teacher used to say, there's always one person (or in this case server) that ruins it for everyone

This I tell you is going to RIP APART a lot of servers around the world, Although I am happy because it will make every player equal and make all servers more fun! But if this is Strictly implemented we will see servers, going bankrupt, shutting down and being removed all over the show! Only the big servers will survive and all that will remain is the servers with rich owners who can afford to front up the EXPENSIVE bill that running a Minecraft Server Requires
NOT SUPPORTED: Go away Mojang, Some light restrictions would be fine but this..., Your not helping!

Actually , they are helping more than you think , if kids keep on stealing their parents wallets to become invincible in a server that wants to scam people , parents will sue the server , forcing it to shut down
Being a nerd is nothing to be ashamed of. Nerds rule the world! Who invented the internet? Nerds. Who created personal computers and smart phones? Nerds. Who made every video game you've ever played and ever will? Still nerds. Who sent probes to distant planets? Nerds, nerds and more nerds! I'm a nerd and I'm proud.

Agreed!
I think that this EULA may help, but my point is that a lot of servers literally live off what is donated for ranks and an advantage over other players,
THIS got abused! Sure! but as far as i know we are talking a 1/10000 'server that wants to scam people'. If its little kids stealing credit cards then thats the parents problem, not the servers. They simply take the transaction and rank/give the players the new things
All Im saying is this is going to make life hell for any decent, monthly (or yearly) paying server thats only income is that of players wanting new features, new homes, Spectating etc
I support the new EULA from a players point of view but this is not helping servers, thats all Im saying!
Quick question: Will the EULA effect ranks given to players who play longer?
Say I have a special rank for people who have played for a certain period of time only, as in the first month of the server creation and was in beta which was pay to access. What if it was free and you just had to be there? Server events that altar the game-play of others - is that still allowed since there was no money involved?
It will not effect ranks given to players, if all new players are provided the opportunity to gain the same rank.
So if you got a title "Old hero" and a cool unique pet, because you have been playing at the server for 2 years. A new player should be awarded the same, after 2 years of playing. Now however, your title will have to be upgraded because you have played for 4 years.
If one player won a map building contest and were awarded a sword with 1 more damage than the other swords.
The server needs to hold this contest (or other contests, with the same reward) regularly ( weekly/biweekly/monthly/bimonthly ). There will still only be 1 winner every contest, but every player has the opportunity to win. It's not about money, it's about how dedicated they are to build a good map. And they can build a good map, this is really only up to the individual.
The beta tester rank is also something a new player has the opportunity to get. There is a chance that the server, at some point in the future may have a beta test for something. When that beta test has started, they just have to participate.
Many servers are going to have to learn to cut back.
Lets look at Mineplex, can you please tell me why they have a need for 42,000 player slots when only about 25% of them are filled? Mineplex can easily shave money off their bills by cutting down their player slots. The only ones really complaining about the new EULA are the large server owners which have not even thought of ways to make a few cut backs. Yes this seems like a thing that is going to affect everyone but no one has the right to complain since their micro transactions have been illegal since day 1. Mojang is politely asking owners to stop selling parts of their game and are even encouraging server owners to share their ideas on how to continue making money from their server.
Running a server is like running a business and you should be prepared to react to any sort of endeavor that comes your way. When the economy gets bad what do companies do? They cut back their production until consumers start purchasing again or they think of some idea that will still get the consumer to still purchase their products. So how does this vary from a server? Mojang still allows you to sell cosmetic items and stuff that does not affect game play so you're telling me that server owners can't think of a way to make money if they're still being sort of lenient on this EULA? Personally I feel like this EULA is a step in the right direction on Mojang's behalf, the servers used today are abused on many levels as a quick money maker for people that have no actual interest in running a server. Just because you can't find an alternative way to fund your server that does not mean that some other server owner can't.
What time of day did you take that picture on? What day?
Lots of things determine population levels on a game than just popularity. If it's a holiday, there will be more people on. If it's morning or late in the night in many American cities (sorry other countries, Americans tend to have a majority rule most of the time), there's going to be less people on.
That doesn't mean they can't cut back, but running a server is very expensive, even for smaller servers. And it's even worse that the solution the EULA offers is "if you want a VIP-only area, offer a separate VIP server", because that essentially very nearly doubles the cost outright.
But you also have to ask; what can you cut back. This isn't a business where you can use different materials because they're cheaper, a server doesn't have much you can cut back on. Space, certainly, but beyond that? You can't tell people to "cut back" when there is nothing to cut back.

I have thought of an idea that may help with this. A system, in which a server signs up on a site that will allow them to have donations. However, 5-10% of the donation money would go to mojang directly. This would allow mojang to profit greatly, AND allow servers to stay up. I know somebody has probabally thought of this, but this seems like the best solution. And also, systems should be made to prevent those pay2win servers that caused it. This will be by reporting servers that have scammed you out of your money, or are way out of line. For example, Lets take Shotbow and some random pvp server. Say that the PVP server had a kit that made you invincible for like 500$. Somebody could report that server, as it is directly op and is unfair to the masses. With shotbow however, When you donate, you get only increased XP (The Server Currency) gain, and early access to certain game modes. Everything you get with premium will come to the non premiums, making it not unfair. This is just my suggestion however. I understand the EULA, I hate it, But i Understand. This will help out Mojang earn money, while allowing servers to Stay up. I hope you people at Mojang take this into consideration. And don't do a youtube thing in which it is a robot that controls the reports.
Maybe Mojang could sell a server licensing agreement that will allow these big servers to stay in business..Kind of like a Franchise with there terms and agreements.. Everyone is so worried about these Big servers going out of business. If you want a business that extends off another business then maybe you should probably pay for it and let these servers keep what they worked so hard for and weed out the ones that simply don't make any sense.
I HAVE A SOLUTION. Don't like the EULA? Don't play on big name servers that will charge you. End of story.
You don't understand, do you? I never said that I was quitting Minecraft, what I said could be referring to anyone. And where the heck did you get anything to do with Realms?
I'm not a player, I'm a developer and server host. I'm one of the thousands of people who make it possible for people like you to sit on Minecraft all day without getting bored, and this is what I get in return? ... having any means of profit taken away from me? I'm not charging for access to my servers, that is unfair. If people donate, I want to give them something in return, to thank them. I'm not one of the abusers of the system, I won't accept a donation of more than $100.00 USD, if you do, you're greedy. I like money, everyone does, but I like giving people something in return. The fact that Mojang won't allow this is absolute $#!%.

You dont understand the EULA problems here. Re-read it.
You know the reaction to this whole eula thing shows one huge flaw in this community. Its gotten horrible over the past 2 years.
"No! we dont want horses"
"No! we dont like the emerald ore"
"We criticize every little mistake you do!"
"Why change the book recipe?"
Geeze.
I have supported Emeralds, Horses, and the Book recipe change, as well as other changes to the game people have disliked (*cough* Roses *cough*). As have many others, but most people only see the negative people because they happen to be the loudest (and, sometimes, the most obnoxious and unwilling to compromise).
At least with the EULA we have quite a few people actually talking about what's good and bad about it.
Of course server owners are angry and feel betrayed, Mojang suddenly completely changed their minds.

This is not paytowin, it is playtowin.
In that case wouldn't paying to enter a server be affecting gameplay? since you won't be able to play if you don't pay.
