You know what this is? Karma for years of greed. For the last year or more we've seen servers charging upwards of $500 or more for "God" ranks and other nonsense, and even small items like hoppers costing more than the price of the base game. This is greed, and it's turned multiplayer into a pay to win operation. It's like Gontroller's owner buying a luxury car with his "donations". Excuse me while I don't feel sorry for these people who turned into mini Activision and EA's capitalizing on microtransactions.
I would be more than fine with vanity perks, but that's not the route most owners went on. They monetized everything from in-game items to mcmmo (game-breaking...buy superior stats, slaughter anybody new who tries to play legitimately). There are plenty of servers that run off of pure donations...have a look at the Call of Duty 4 community. Still alive and strong hundreds of servers out there, many online for years and years running off of people who enjoy the server and want to see it stick around. I'd donate to that. I won't be a sucker paying to win a game I already paid for once though.
You've basically just expressed my opinions about everything multiplayer. On skyblock servers, people LITERALLY charge you 30 dollars and upwards for a simple item like a hopper Why can't we just kill zombies instead? Oh, wait. They disabled mob drops.

So don't support bad servers there are plenty of servers that charge for perks/items that are not p2w.
That petition has been removed like 10 times off the site. I think Mojang is trying to keep it off, or change.org is doing it for no reason, heh, you should petition change.org from deleting your petitions. That would be ironic.
you know, server host are making money with their servers, not with minecraft itself
you rent a server,not minecraft
and someone who is making videos his selling his creativity, not minecraft content
Mojang is free to offer server hosting, just like all the other companies. However.. Realms, like everything else Mojang releases lives only in the shadows of what the community has already provided.
Yeh hi fellow crafters, id just like to add my thoughts on this after reading it via "segmentnext"
Now real question is, why is mojang doing this.
My answer: Money of course, who wouldn't if u owned it, but there doing it by phasing mp servers out. This has been done so far via the creation of "realms" and now this very subtle publicizing of that section of the EULA.
Now are they doing it because they dont like others making money off of there game via mp server purchases of ingame items... Highly doubtful, look how long it has been going on for and nothing has been done till now, not because its getting out of hand, but because they see an opportunity and have taken it, plain and simple.
Now you may ask yeh why havent they done anything till now, n my opinion its because say 75% of people who buy minecraft buy it because of those mp servers, thus our mp servers we play and advertise etc is actually making money for mojang indirectly.
Now next question is why are they doing it now, easy answer, its because they are expanding, Mojang is now quite a large company run by a smart business so of course they would jump on this as soon as the ground work (realms) was finished and milk as much as they can. "realms" is also much easier to track and control.
Of course they cant do anything about "donations" or "pay to join servers" as it isn't covered in the EULA so plenty of loopholes to be had there as well.
Now to sum up in my eyes, this is but a gamble, Im thinking that they hope to make more money off the "realms" in the future as opposed to allowing mp servers to keep running as they are currently. But if they do follow this through all the way, i can only imagine the hundreds of thousands of emails and complaints ;p. ANYWAYS thats my ramble, if you read all this I Ty and have a great day.
Honestly, this whole thread was over after Rakanoth's first post.
Everything afterward has basically been children and others that simply don't "get" how the world works.
It's sad, actually. Facepalm-inducingly sad.
Don't forget teh useless comments that add nothing to the thread.
If this thread is all you say it is, I would not have read it to the end. There are a lot of valid points being made, and at least its still a conversation without ppl just trolling each other and calling names.
You know what in a way we aren't breaking any rules by having donor ranks on Minecraft. On Paypal, its counted as a DONATION, a DONATION from which you can get rewarded for. The donation of itself states goes toward the host and server upgrades, nothing to do with minecraft. Servers that charge you to play or to build, yea thats wrong. I hate that, and they should be removed, but people who just have a donate option for that reason should not be affected. It's literal trash. If the EULA does not change I smell a very high percentage of developers quitting minecraft. Then just a percentage of actual players quitting minecraft itself. Game is going s*** anyway, name changes and UUIDs, you can't just switch a game thats been using 1 login for 4 years then just randomly add Name changes and UUID, Are you trying to make the community servers break?? Seems the only thing Mojang cares about at this point is money and Minecraft Realms which can't even do 2% of what Spigot and Bukkit can do.
It is very clear that some d-bags of the world have abused the MC name, and have made tons of money scamming little kids, and adults alike. This is not limited to just online servers, but the d-bags that pull fake conventions and all that crap.
If all that Mojang is doing is getting their legal crap together to prevent this kind of thing, and even punish some of the most major offenders, I do not think anyone will disagree with it. So far we do not know Mojangs real intentions. But if they end up going after the life blood of their community (legit small and large multilayer servers) than imo they are making a massive mistake.
They are aware that they are going to kill all minecraft servers doing this, they just want people to buy their realm servers
If they wanted to kill all Minecraft servers I'm sure they could just, you know, not offer the server.jars anymore. Seems that would be a much easier and faster way to do so.
One more thing. WHAT IS MOJANG GETTING OUT OF THIS?! What they are going to start there servers then do donations there? I'm alreadly ready to cancel my server. If they did this from the start I would be fine but 2+ years later? Mojang just janged us. :/

only one word needed for this.

Can you summarize the conversation for me, I'm too lazy to read it all. Is the guy you're talking about this guy? And how do I know it isn't made up?
They are not killing all servers for doing this, you shouldn't be able to buy something that you already bought in the game in the first place.
