This is lame. It's not even an April fool's joke. An April fool's joke is making someone believe something do do something under false pretenses and then you go "april fool's!" and all is well again. It didn't even FOOL anyone seeing that as soon as anyone first started hearing the different sounds it was completely obvious that is was some sort of prank, nobody was fooled and that's the entire point of this lame pseudo holiday known as april fool's. You do NOT change someone's game that they paid for to play and severely hinder their gameplay and make them have to jump through all kinds of hoops to try to figure out how to manually reverse the changes and then have to actually do it, wasting valuable time that could have been spent playing.
Those of you that say "oh just turn the sound off" or "just wait a few days til they fix it on their own", get outta here with that stuff, think about what you're saying before you say it, there is no reason in the world why any of us should have to do that. Playing a game without sound is ridiculous and HUGELY diminishes the enjoyment of it, and even beyond that, why should i ever have to do that in the first place?
And then they take it a step further because their little "joke" failed on most people and get all defensive and release this fake apology and snarky little post about everything being completely serious all the time. They screw our gameplay up and then try to take shots at us and try to blame us??? That's a huge disrespectful slap in the face to the supporters of this game. The sounds are goofy and mildly entertaining for about 15 seconds but then its annoying and inconvenient and unenjoyable when yesterday it wasn't.
This isn't about not having a sense of humor, it's about wanting to play a game that you own without being irritated or taking a vital part of it away(sound). Next time if you don't want your little prank to be such an overwhelming failure, add in the ability to change it back to the game that we actually WANT to play with one click of a button and you will avoid all these negative responses.
how bout you quit crying about the people that have a 100% legitimate grievance? matter of fact why don't you just unplug your internet. this would solve your problem immediately.
You have no idea what others' lives are like. What makes you think you can judge them?
I worked a 14 hour day yesterday. I wanted to chill out with Minecraft for an hour before bed. Let me tell you something: my workday was plenty full of frustrations. Then I open Minecraft, and guess what, another frustration: this one was intentional. So I was upset. You got a problem with that, Mr. I-have-no-responsibility-in-life?
My son plays Minecraft on Tuesdays. He's 8. It's his one Minecraft day per week. So it's not one day, it's a week. And he's 8, so no, patience isn't his strong suit. He'll get over it, but again, why?
Is there some reason you couldn't move his Minecraft day to another day this week?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My new survival journal is out! Come check it out here! All readers are appreciated!
People come to this thread and immediately are presented with two options:
Complain profusely and ever so adamantly about how Mojang has made Minecraft just so terribly unplayable.
Download one of the several resource packs in this thread or attempt the alternative fix, all of which take less time than these longwinded posts.
Of course they have to choose to complain and gripe over it knowing it won't solve their problem. In fact, all it is doing is further cutting into their beloved playtime! Oh me, oh my what a tragic day this is for sure.
I really don't understand how hard it is to download a resource pack and drop it into your resourcepacks folder. The rest of us did the "hard" work for you! Come on, it only took me about 20 seconds to rename the folder, remove the excess files, and rewrite the pack.mcmeta file that someone had claimed was obscured in the last pack download. It will literally take all of you a matter of 5 seconds to drag and drop the file into your folder.
Yes, the prank gets annoying after a while. Yes, Mojang went a bit overboard this year. Yes, we get it, you shouldn't have to play without sounds. Yes, we know, you should be allowed to enjoy your game. At the end of the day though, even Mojang could have predicted some people being annoyed and someone in the community making a quick resource pack to combat the annoyance. It's not a big problem when the fix is so simple. The fixes are easy. The fixes are available. The continuing moaning won't install these fixes for you.
Mac users: Good news! I figured out how to get the sounds and skins back to the way they were!
Bad news! It deletes all your armor and gear. I just toasted my latest savegame.

<shakes fist at Mojang>
EDIT - Nevermind. I read your post from earlier in the thread.
I think our villager overlords have taken over! quote "The long-nosed villagers introduced in Minecraft beta 1.9 have become sentient. They have taken over our skin servers and content delivery networks (CDN), so unfortunately you will not be able to change your skins until we fix the problem. We are desperately trying our best to pull the plugs, but we should prepare ourselves to serve under our new villager overlords. Singularity may be upon us." end quote

these complaints have a purpose, it's to express people's displeasure with something that they have done in an attempt to allow them to learn from it.
and nobody should have to search the web for a fix, download a bunch of files and scour their directories for the proper location. there are many people that aren't computer literate enough to do this in a timely fashion, or users too young to find the fix and execute it without making a mistake that damages the game or their system. not to mention it is NOT a 5 second fix. you gotta search the net for others that had the same problem, sift through a the forum pages for a fix, download files and such, it's just something that we shouldn't have to do ESPECIALLY when, as mentioned above, many of us have limited time to play and for brief periods. it's just awesome that i had to spend most of it today dealing with this whole thing that wasn't even funny to begin with.
and just because it's simple enough for most of us doesn't mean it is for everyone and still, WHY should any of us even have to do this just to get the game back to the way it was meant to be?
people have every right to vent about this and then they go about their day and try to fix their game or just not play it or whatever they decide to do. the point is that it wasn't actually an april fool's joke, it was a prank gone awry. it was enjoyed by some, tolerated by some, annoyed by some and infuriated some. was it really worth it to anger people over changing their sound files?
I didn't really find it funny. to me it makes the game almost unplayable. I downloaded Element Animation's Villager Sounds Resource Pack a while ago, and so when I hear it at first I thought my resource packs got messed up. I tried to force update my game and when that didn't work I deleted the versions folder and changed the game directory. When I still heard it I finally found this post and I'm extremely ed.
Last years April Fools joke was good, because it was quick painless and a good laugh, this one is just annoying.

Mojang doesn't read the forums, so all the complaining here is useless.
Guess what? There's a (you guessed it) bug! Walk on permadirt and hear the villagers say "Gravel!"
Technically that's a bug with minecraft then, because the resource pack just replaces sounds so if it says gravel then in default it also plays the gravel sound.
I suggest you should find back-up entertainment in case Minecraft doesn't work for any reason, intentional or otherwise.
Though I suppose complaining in an online forum and replying with condescending remarks towards anyone who doesn't agree with you serves just as well, right?
you have access to their browser history? i'm sorry, i had no idea!
Do you have the access to their browser history?
If no, why do you think that they read the forums.
There is no proof that they usually read the forum.
because we all LOVE playing our games without sounds and not being able to to notice or react to the things that audible indications were added to the game specifically for. i don't even own any speakers, i play by sense of smell.
Step 1:
Step 2: Quit crying.

kinda like you're doing right now, right?
you have access to their browser history? i'm sorry, i had no idea!
I would love to try this but there is no "virtual" folder. There are only 3 folders listed there, "Indexes","Objects", and "Skins" Advice?
