What makes you wanna play it? What do you find good about it instead of multiplayer? Do you play vanilla, semi-vanilla (things like optifine minimaps), or completely radical mods?
I play vanilla, and simplest reason, I don't want to have to deal with griefing or all the other drama that goes along with multiplayer games these days.
Right now my multiplayer server is down. It has been down since last evening. I can't even work on any of my stuff until it is back up again and one day when the owner gets tired of Minecraft there goes all my hard work. I have two games going one multiplayer and one solo game just so when the day comes I still have something to show for my time.
Singleplayer is nice because you can install the most radical mods and not have to worry about finding a server that supports it. Generally, though, I only play with Terrafirmacraft installed and it's not impossible to find Terrafirmacraft servers.
So, it really depends on what mods I have. If for some reason I have nothing installed I tend to pick a server, but if I have a lot of mods it's singleplayer for me.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
In singleplayer, it is your world. There's no rules to follow, and you're free to do whatever you like. You can also install mods, which can offer endless possibilities. And if you want, you can always invite a friend on a LAN world to help you out.
I like that I can start a world fresh. No barren, resourceless radius around spawn, no griefers (besides creepers), no abusive admins who could explode my build if they got bored, and best of all, all the resources are mine to collect.

Pointing out fallacies to undermine an argument is also a fallacy...
i prefer single player vanilla for a few reasons
1. just for the feel every time i play by my self it brings back the memories of other worlds and versions (beta alpha)
2. lag on mp i get people glitching out lagging out and so on but not on sp
3. i mostly play mcpe and xbox minecraft and i dont have gold so i have to play by my self
4. i can do want i want not what others tell me
5. playing old versions of minecraft has no mp support and when ever i play pc i go back to old beta
6. no cry babys or any person who gets on my nerves (thats what cod is for)
but thats why i prefer single player over mp

i think we should all use common sense and logic when we answer and ask a question but always stay open minded
just cause science fails to explain something does not mean its real (afterlife, big foot, ghosts etc..) does not mean its fake try to stay opened mined instead of closed
Because, you can build whatever you want, without having the fear of griefers. I love singleplayer because I don't have to deal with anybody else, just building what I want in my own world.. I still play on a multiplayer world, but still..
No rules, no such thing as griefing in Singleplayer, ability to add mods without troubles as it would be in Multiplayer, and you can do anything you want. In other words, you're the center of the universe in Singleplayer.
I will always enjoys SP because of the freedom of doing what I want in my world. But MP is just as enjoyable. I was lucky, I applied to one server and found it to be what I was looking for

My fan fiction of the game: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1957118-programmer-my-first-fan-fiction/#entry24096758
* It's actually possible to find a tree without walking half way across the world.
* You don't have to worry about getting back to your house and finding it griefed
* You don't have to worry about 5 guys with enchanted diamond armor and swords ganging up and killling you for no reason.
* <Insert every other advantage of singpleplayer here>
And nobody takes all the resources.
Stay fluffy~
