Most people don't really play Minecraft for the music, or really care about it whatsoever. Some don't even enjoy it and completely turn it off or replace it. I, on the other hand, would not be able to enjoy the magnificence of the game without it's music. Would the removal of music effect you, the reader, in any way? I would not be able to adore the beauty that is Minecraft without it, and be able to replay my favorite music disks that I've earned over and over when I feel alone. Gameplay would certainly not feel the same without it in my opinion. What is yours?
Need a little inspiration? If you can, hop onto Minecraft and wait for the music to be played. Would the experience be any different without it?
It would be less atmospheric for sure, but not to a point where I would completely stop playing. Odds are I would play my own music more to fill the blank.
Really? I hate the music, it makes me depressed, so I usually keep it off. Not that I want it removed, so many people enjoy it, I just don't, so I keep it off.
If there wasn't music in Minecraft, it would be much more silent, and dull. There wouldn't be jukeboxes or music disks. Also, people would make music mods, that allow you to drag music into a folder, and play it in game, using some sort of an iPod item or something like that.
Thanks for the responses. The game would be less atmospheric, and even so create the removal of such a feeling. That feeling is one that makes the player feel depressed, or reflect. Kind of ruins that 'hardcore' feeling as well. I play minecraft not for having a challenge, but for the passion that is developed through the gameplay and sound. It would also be compared to the same question that everyone may ask themselves, "Why am I playing a game without a goal, without an end?" The music encourages the player in opening their creativity, and imagination. It is an aid to thinking, and opens their inner communication.
Some time ago, I made a slideshow a couple weeks ago regarding family pictures from 5 years ago to the present. My sister happens to be seven at the moment, and there were photos of her all over the slideshow. Thinking that the Minecraft music would make the slideshow further special I added it to the music timeline. Once it was finalized, I watched it. I almost shed tears upon realizing how cuddly my sister was and how she grew. Nostalgia took its course, and the rest of the slideshow that remained seemed depressing. That feeling would have been different if I were to have chosen more 'happy' songs, or even party songs. Yes, the music is depressing, but it makes Minecraft come alive. That is my opinion.
I think it's great, some of the 1.7.2 updated music isn't depressing. As a matter of fact, I broke my arm two weeks ago (oh dear God I'm so glad I'm right-handed) and my mind was off the still-horrible pain in my left arm.

Thanks for the opinion and sorry to hear about your arm! Hope you get better soon.
Like a few others have said, I dislike the music so I turn it off.

The music is good, but I don't like it. I'll usually listen to something else.

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.

thanks. I'm on break so I'm on here all day. This post took almost 10 minutes (ok maybe not quite) because I can't use both hands to type. And I'm going to play minecraft and put up Christmas decorations in a bit because even as an adult, Christmas is still my favorite time of year. Hopefully I don't get a box rigged with a confetti popper from my roommate this year! The popper was tied to a string, so when I opened the box, it popped in my face.

How not to look like a total fool in the forum games
Personally, I love the music. It's all beautiful and joyful. Without it, well... It would just be a very gloomy game.
