Hey guys,
I just wanted to post a quick topic on how big the world of minecraft is, so if we take the dimensions of minecraft calling 1 block 1sq metre then Minecraft would in fact be larger than the earth. To my calculations minecraftia is around the size of the planet Neptune, almost 4 times bigger than the earth. Thanks for reading this guys and I hope it interested you all.
Actually, I think Minecraft has the volume of the Sun.
Proof:
MINECRAFT:
60,000,000×256×60,000,000=9.21600000E+17
(9.21600000E+17)÷1,000,000,000,000 [Earth's volume] = about 1 million earths
SUN Around 1 million Earths
NEPTUNE 57 Earths
To put it into perspective, if all the blocks in a world including air, were transformed into glowstone, and you shaped that into a ball, you would get a slightly smaller replica of the Sun.
If you want to do this correctly, you would first find the volume of the minecraft world- length times width times height (or depth in this case). and (if you were saying it was one block=1meter) you would do the volume of the minecraft world times 1 cubed meter- making it V times (1 meter cubed). now you would have to find the volume of Earth, and see how many times earth would fit into the minecraft world- and calculate it in 1 cubed meter(s) just like you did the minecraft world. then, if what Mr. Nonexistent said was true, the earth can fit into Neptune 57 times, then you would multiply the amount of times the minecraft world would fit into the Earth by 57 times. you would then (if you calculated the vol. of Neptune, see how many Neptunes you could fill up withone minecraft world
Thanks for looking. If any of you do the math that I did here tell me what you found!
There's lot of bad numbers floating around for the size of Minecraft, because people forget to convert meters to kilometers, etc.
For the area, the world is 60 million meters on a side, or 60,000 km, which is 3.6 billion square kilometers; the surface area of Earth is 510 million square kilometers - so Minecraft is actually only 7 times bigger than Earth. The 7,000 number commonly seen appears to be the result of some weird mixup of meters/kilometers; not converting meters to kilometers results in 7 million, maybe converted it to kilometers after the calculation (converting to square kilometers would give the correct result, if not the way you normally do it).
On the other hand, the volume of Minecraft is 3.6 billion square kilometers x 0.256 kilometers high, which is 921.6 million cubic kilometers. Sounds like a lot, right? Well, the volume of Earth is about 1.08 trillion cubic kilometers - so in this case Earth is over 1,000 times bigger than Minecraft (figures for the area/volume of Earth from Wikipedia). Also, if you only include land (I think the figure for Earth doesn't include the atmosphere), and the average height of a default world is around 64 meters, give or take, the volume is now only about 1/4 as much - so Earth is then over 4,000 times bigger (Amplified would be somewhere in between; 1.7 default worlds are also a bit higher than older generation due to smaller oceans).
Arrgh! Blowout!System corruption 505.Hard drive brain could not deal with infinitely big numbers and has shut down to protect data.Did the calculations, TheMasterCaver is right. Minecraft is 1,000th the size of the Earth. This means Minecraft is the size of the trans-Neptunian dwarf planet or plutoid Makemake.Case closed.
This has already been discussed. With the maximum world size generatable, you can make a world that is 8 times the size of the earth, or, about the size of neptune.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
