On a tiny treeless island in the middle of a big ocean, even in 1.7, because you'll waste a few minutes reaching land (immediately delete world in 1.6 or earlier). This is probably unlikely in 1.7 though unless you use large biomes, never had it in 1.6 either except for a survival island seed that I used.
Otherwise, it'd be a desert because they have no trees, although you can easily walk to a suitable biome (I want to be able to live right near spawn though). I'd also hate to spawn in a jungle because of the lack of a suitable place to build.
Almost my opinion, except that I've seen more island starts in the 1.7 snapshots. There's a start rescue algorithm which relocates you if you start in a "bad" place (like water) to the nearest "acceptable" place. But unfortunately any plains counts as acceptable and all those islands littering the lakes count. Maybe they fixed it for release; I haven't tried a bunch of starts since the release.
Jungles don't bother me; they're a little hard to get around in but you always have a reasonable supply of resources. It's deserts and oceans, where there's often no food and/or no wood at all that bother me. You can't do *anything*.
