Now, this is not intended to offend anyone, I'm simply putting my opinion out there.
This is not directed at all girls either, I've met several really cool ones so this is for the few that do this ..
The girls who put themselves out there annoy me so much.
Like the ones who enter a server, say, "Hi, I'm a girl! <3" Or simply use an overkill amount of emoticons.
It gets really old.
I feel like some of them simply crave attention and only play for the extra stuff they get as well as the constant attention.
I mean really, when do you see a girl who DOESNT have a girl skin? Why does it matter if it's a girl skin or not? Honestly, again, they do it for attention.
The ones that REALLY drive me insane are the "minerchick10" "HotsexygirlXD" <--- who is a real name
why do you need to have "GIRL" in your name? who cares?
I really can't stand when they say they're gamers, you ask them to do a little coding and they're like "huh, whats that?" or you ask about what other games they play and they're like "Call of Duty <333"
I find it really, really annoying ... Anyone else?
It's mostly just male gamer's that pretend to be female for special attention, and it sadly works in many situations...
^ Running of this statement, several of my guy friends actually purchased an alt (with a girly name, of course) and use it on certain servers to gain items as well as money, which they then turn around and give to their main account.
A bit pathetic, if you ask me.
I'm willing to bet that at least half, if not more, of those kinds of people are actually men. I've met many in my years of online gaming that either out right say they're a girl, or lead people to believe so by the way they type, character they play, etc. Usually when I ask them why they do it, the response is usually along the lines of getting free stuff, people just treating them nicer in general.
No doubt girls/women do those kinds of things too, and as you pointed out it's for the same reasons of just wanting more attention/getting free stuff. I'm just pointing out that a lot of men do the same thing. I mean really, if you want to get to the bottom of it, people only act that way because it works.
I agree to this... but to an extent,
I haven't seen very many "girl gamers" or girls that play minecraft(I like to say) "put themselves out there" like you described, but I have seen guys (sometimes my friends) pretend to be girls to get admin and such, which bugs the hell outta me. it's fraud.
I was relatively close to 2 girls on Minecraft, one of whom was exactly like this, the other was the opposite.
The former was a girl named monahan4. She dated a guy on her server, and whenever he came on, she would be like "Hai Taco baby <3 ;)" Her console username was cookiemona. Whenever someone told her she was being annoying, she would say "Why are you picking on me :(? I'm just a little girl :,(" and then someone would yell at whoever said that, saying that they were being sexist.
The latter was a girl named ZombieKillerRose. While she dated a few guys on a server, she never really took it seriously, more like dating on Minecraft was simply an excuse to say "Hi Baby." Yes, she would say she played Call of Duty, but it was more like "Hey guys, anyone available for some zombies on XBox Live?" Sometimes, people would be really nice and kiss up to her, but she would turn them away saying that she "Just wanted to play mc, not go out on virtual dates all day."

My current avatar is Gyro Zeppeli from the popular manga Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. He's my favorite character. I love his optimism, dry humor, and his ability to do considerable damage even without a stand.
Many girls I know on Minecraft have gender-neutral names, with occasionally an obvious girl skin. Anyone with "minerchick" and is dressed as Princess Peach are either guys craving attention or advantages, or are just younger girls.

"On a scale of one mile to Lord of the Rings, how far did you walk today?"
I play a lot of female alts on my MMO... Most, in fact.
The primary reasoning is that since the game is either 1st person, where you don't get to see any attack/defense animations, or 3rd person from behind, at varying distances, I prefer watching the female form rather than a fat old dwarf any day.
I also own up to being male. but that's usually obvious from the first reply I make... The game has voicechat
I mean really, when do you see a girl who DOESNT have a girl skin?
Well how can you tell whether they're a girl or not, if they don't have a feminine skin?
I know that a lot of female Minecrafters go for a more gender-neutral appearance because they don't want anyone to judge them based on their gender. It sometimes seems like a lot of guys, and even some girls, will assume you're just there for attention if you let it slip that you're female. Of course we'd stay disguised!
If someone goes out of there way to say they're a girl, just ignore them. Whether they're a dude pretending to be a girl or a desperate girl, it doesn't matter. They're doing it for attention, which is just plain pathetic.
Also, I'd be willing to bet that more girls choose gender-neutral skins/names just to avoid that sort of attention.
One time there was this girl on the core(it is a server) I was playing Hot potato and she was like " I am a girl. Vote for map #1 and I will be your girlfriend" and then a bunch of dudes just came and was like OK!
It's mostly just male gamer's that pretend to be female for special attention, and it sadly works in many situations...
Not at all... the male gamers who play as female characters do not pretend to be females. They just like the look of the female characters. Just look at the way people behave in real life. Most guys don't go around begging for attention, but many females do. It's not anything specific to gamers, it's a trait of females in general, but not all females. Only promiscuous ones.
gender in gaming is certainly a non-issue for many players for the most part. While we have heard a few tales about male gamers using female avatars and names, i would argue that the reverse situation is equally common.
Many females take on male avatars and names to avoid potential bias.
Statistically, the proportion of female gamers in modern times is almost on par with that of male gamers.
To reiterate, gender in gaming is a non-issue, and irrelevant.
Funny story that have almost nothing to do with the OP's subject.
First character I played on any online game, Gemstone III, was female. I never gave it a thought, I just picked a name and personality from my vast D&D characters. It was Shadril the Ranger. Shad was a chick, rather butch salty one at that. She was after all the Cabin boy on a Pirate ship.
Took me several years to figure out why I had all these dudes paying attention to me/her.... Thought never crossed my mind that anyone though I was a really a women. I'm just a dude, playing another dude.
I felt bad cause I embarriesd a few young guys who just could not get over it when they found out. And it was not like I kept it a secret. I just didn't go around going, "Buy the way I'm really a dude". I thought it was kool that in this game I was someone else. Besides all the other guys are really 6'4" and 180 pds right?
God that's annoying as hell when it's actual girls. Whoopedy do for being a girl and playing minecraft. It's not like girls don't have thumbs so it's not really an accomplishment lol.
The fact guys will pretend to be girls to get stuff and attention paints a rather funny and sad picture of the female population of MC players.
Obviously not all girls are like that though, thankfully.
Out of annoyance, I sorta trolled a chick a while back. She thought being a girl made her special and entitled and she thought I was a dude (which I'm not lol but you wouldn't guess by the name, skin and speech) and had a bit of a kick ignoring her obvious attempts at flirting and getting free stuff from me.
Upon finding out my true gender, "bisexual" mode was activated but I'm a hetero so..(not sure why her being 'bi' would turn me bi or something and get her free stuff lol)
I was playing with my friend from France and we were playing Minecraft Hunger Games with guns. He was using his sister account so he had a girl skin and then this dude said to my friend "you are hot" and then my friend said I am a boy"

Well, there's nothing wrong with having a girly skin. If you like it, go ahead.
As long as you don't use such an appearance to your advantage..
This is my current skin. It is often that no one is aware of my gender.
Which I believe to be a good thing.

Anyway I found out two things...
#1 men, in general...Are pigs...
#2 It was not free stuff.
