Hey guys, so I've been playing Minecraft for quite awhile and probably at the beginning of 2013 the spark that Minecraft had, finally died. So I decided to take a break, I tried getting back into it with 1.5 which I did for short amount of time, than it died again, 1.6 was interesting for about an hour, and reading all the updates about 1.7 I thought for sure this was gonna be the update to get back in, and well, not really....
I feel as if Minecraft is just missing something, and I can't quite my finger on it...
some things that completely kill Minecraft for me is
1. when ever theirs a new dramatic update, you gotta basically create a whole new world to see the changes, or find new chunks....
2. Creative, some things that would be a nice addition to creative and help free building and what not is one, flying speed!!!! it is just a pain in the butt getting around moving so slowly... and another, having tools like what World Edit uses,
3.... well actually their is no 3, its just the top 2 that are really killing it for me right now...
So yea, and all of my Minecraft friends basically feel the same way so they are in the same position as me...
as for survival, I've done it all.. lol and restarting really doesn't help...
anyways what would be some suggestions to get me back into Minecraft? what keeps you guys motivated to keep playing?
You need to find a good server to play on. Ones with mods provide a more fulfilling experience in my opinion, and even then it depends on what mods you like. Most people nowadays continue playing minecraft when they are a part of a good community. Also there are servers with minigames that can make things fun. So there are options.
There aren't that many dramatic updates, and even with this 1.7 update not everyone is restarting, thats why 1.6.4 exists, so that servers can save their structures. In terms of creative, most servers dont give out world edit commands because it can cause major issues with lag, you can't trust people to use it properly, they can change 10,000 blocks at once and cause lag, or 10 people world editing at the same time can cause it. Either way, it's just not a good idea for a multiplayer server. As for fly speed, beacons do provide extra speed, so just place them around.
Are you part of a good survival multiplayer community. I got bored of mc too but then I made a server and now I have my own little mc community. It's a lot of fun, we do redstone stuff, big building projects, etc It really got me back into the game.
Also, did u used to do a lot of redstone stuff, if not then try it, it adds a whole new perspective to the game!
I would recommend playing mods. But more specifically, play modpacks. They got a lot of added content that change the feels of the original game. Try the Technic launcher, they have some really great modpack. But I would like to add this. If you're getting tired of Minecraft, why do you keep playing? Play something else, Minecraft isn't the only game ever released. If you were tired of an other game, would you still play it? Then why should you keep playing Minecraft? So, try modpack to see if you can have fun, but if you can't just play something else, simple as that.
1: Geting to the new biomes is the fun part. This will also help you with you flying speed.
First go into the pause screen and open to LAN and enable cheats.
Then type /effect (USERNAME) 1 1000 25
This will give you SUPER SPEED! When now walking you will go nearly 2X the speed of flying!
This is also ridiculously fun! I find myself doing this in survival mode at night chasing around creepers and other mobs!
Add jump boost effect for MORE fun!
2: For flying speed, see #1
Luckily in 1.7.2 the feature /replaceblock was added!
Its just like world edit but takes getting used to because there is no wand.
Hope this helped your problems!
But as for getting back into Minecraft...
I NEVER play single player EVER!
the best thing about Minecraft is playing with friends!
Find a great server (or a few) and play on those!
I recommend "Snapcraft" it has a great faction world along with EarthGames and Other PVP games!
Other Servers...
Hypixel Server.
The Core
MinePlex
MCSG
ItsJerryAndHarry
MC PVP (Hardcore Games)
Minecade
SuperCraftBros
The Hive
Also watch Minecraft Videos! Thats how I got into it! I suggest BajanCanadian for PVP and AntVenom for Survival and more!
Hope I helped!

If mah post helped ya, hit dat lil' green thingy in teh right corner. It means 'lot.
Just work up your imagination. I buyed Minecraft in Alpha and never needed any mod. It's your imagination that makes the difference.
You're so absolutely right, recently I can't help but ask why minecraft players are never satisfied. Mods are fun and all but I get bored playing with mods faster than I do without them.
Anyways, to help you OP, you need something to spark your excitement again whether its mods or finding a server that has everything you crave for. Take the time looking from here to there and find what will be that spark. It might take time but eventually you'll find what you're looking for.
As said many times above, use mods. I was playing on Vanilla for a loooong time. Then I got my first mod and I was stuck to Minecraft. Today I have 3 mods (it's hard to find mods that don't require Forge or Modloader. My computer doesn't like them so I can't get either one of those).
I founds mods related to technology and more complex ways of doing simple tasks to be interesting. Like FtB servers. But they're greedy as hell. One had donator tag for $150.
Mods helped me but friends above everything else. It can be hamachi with a few people or a server with a lot but either way its pretty fun. Speaking of which I would volunteer if you choose to hamachi. I myself need a few friends.
I was like you at one point. I got bored of building and exploring, so I quit. I got the bug again and came back, but that bug wasn't random. I was watching a let's play of Minecraft that had a ton of mods in it. Those mods got me really interested again. I've been interested ever since.
What I'm saying is you need to mod Minecraft. It opens up a huge world to explore with more content. Get a good dozen or two mods on your client and play. I think things will be different for you then.
Another thing you can do is play on a server. It took me a few tries to find the perfect server for myself, so try aiming for smaller servers or ones just starting. You'll feel more involved and it's more personal. You can make friends, have a ton of fun, and depending on the place, even play with mods on the server.
Don't give up just yet on Minecraft. Delve deep enough and you may be surprised and happy at what you find.
I remember when I stopped playing minecraft for a while, I don't remember what got me back into it. I think it might have been playing survivals with my friends and siblings though.
Make your own localhost bukkit server, install essentials on it, put your world onto the server and do /speed 10. Now you can fly REALLY fast.
I already do that.... but the only problem is that theirs no 1.7 bukkit yet :/ so I'm kind of stuck! and on top of that I gotta wait for the plugins to be updated!
Whenever I run into the lack of a spark, or inspiration, I install me some Mods, a texture pack, and change it up. The great thing about Minecraft is that it truly is a blank canvas. Using it as a base platform for the mods, you still get that original charm, while getting additional content and possibilities.
While this might not be for you - it's certainly whats worked for me!
