Ah, Minecraft. Build houses, survive, ride pigs... Oh, and did I mention ride horses, enchant, dye glass, dye clay, travel to out-of-place biomes, and fight the Wither? Is it just me, or is Minecraft going downhill?
Do any of you remember the "Golden Age"? As in Beta 1.7? That was when I first got the game. I thought it would be awesome, and I wasn't disappointed. Then 1.8 came out. Cool. 1.0-meh. 1.1- umm... Now we are at 1.6, the horse update. Horses render minecarts and pigs completely useless. Leads just look... Wrong. They don't fit. And don't forget the 1.7 update coming out. It adds a bunch of new biomes that look fresh out of a mod (which is what Notch has been doing lately, anyways). And Stained Glass, and Podzol, and Mossy Cobblestone Boulders, and Packed Ice. They aren't bad, really. But they don't belong. I don't know about you guys, but I never stay with most mods that long, because while they are fun, they take away the feeling of Minecraft.
I feel a bit bad for the Mojangsters. They work their butts off to bring us cool updates, most of which were put in due to popular request. And this is the thanks they get.
It really just comes down to this: Don't like current version? Play a nostalgia version of minecraft alpha or whatever your preferred version is. Simple eh?

Can you explain how any of these updates prevent you from doing the things you used to do before these items were added?
MC is most definitely not going downhill no matter how much you have convinced yourself that everything you feel while in your mom's basement somehow manifests into reality.
Meh, you'd probably still try to spend wooden nickels too if the banks would let you. Change is inevitable and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Don't like brewing? Don't use it. Don't like the wither? Nobody is making you fight it. Granted there are some major changes coming in 1.7 that you can't get away from but that doesn't mean that Mojang is going to stop the update just for you. Go back to b1.7 if you loved it so much and leave the rest of us to enjoy the benefits of a highly dedicated team of developers. #dealwithit

Agree. Though there are some features I don't really like/want to use (#plznustainedglass), but I'm not seeing myself complaining about every single change. Even if it's horrible.
If you don't like Minecraft now, go play a nostalgic verison of it. With the new launcher supporting old versions, complaining for such a stupid reason is pretty pointless.
Seriousely, from the begining I played with minecraft, so in Alpha when there was just more than 600 000 buyers, I automatically tought that I could build a full RPG in this game some day. Since then, every new addition in this game was perfectly fitting with my idea. And I really hope that Minecraft will continue like this and become a game where I will be able to create any RPG I want/think of.
So for me, everything is fitting together since the begining.
I hate those kind of post. Let me get one thing clear for you:
After you will enter the wiki once, minecraft will never be the same thing for you. It happened the same thing for me. I really enjoyed minecraft when I start playing it, but now... It's diffrent. Minecraft isn't going downhill. You don't like it anymore cause you already played and beaten it. It's now a diffrent expiriance.
Yes I agree that horses are a bit pointless if pigs are now rideable... And yes some stuff are stupid. But mojang isn't trying to get old players back to vanilla. It trys to get old players to create better and bigger contect.
Think about stuff like adveture maps, Those things weren't even possible to think on when minecraft was relesed. And now: They're everywhere.
And same for multiplayers, some of the bigger and better plugins like shotgun's wasted wasn't possible to create in earlyer versions.
In the end minecraft will never be the same thing it was for you when you first played it. But that doesn't metters. yYou need to ignore it now, and go on with minecraft.
You want to know what happened? Minecraft evolved into something it wasn't before, It grew into something better then the versions previous, Minecraft is in fact changing be it for the better or worse it still is changing.
It has already been said several times, but you don't have to use new features or upgrade to the latest version; you can also use a mod to change something you don't like (e.g. I'm sure a mod that restores oceans and/or changes biome placement will be made when 1.7 comes out).
Or for a personal example, they apparantly decided that too many people were complaining about "swiss cheese" underground (just guessing) so they reduced the generation of caves, something that hasn't been changed since early Beta from looking at the source. I'm not really complaining though because I can just take JBE and edit the class file (just a couple of easy to find numbers to change) in a few minutes and get back the old generation (or rather, completely replace the files when MCP updates since I modded caves and ravines as they currently are).
What happened to the time where no one complained we all loved?<---Better topic.
How would we make the biomes more none mody? Don't say "Uh DER make tere own!111!!!1!!1111" Because guess what! The biome mods cover almost allthe biomes in the world so tell me sir, have you even COMPARED them to the mods? Do that and come back.
Minecraft isn't ruined it's advancing Nothing anyone wants in the game will be your perfect game. Horses aren't such a bad problem you can kill them for leather and you don't need to ride 'em.
I wrote a big long Great Wall of Text about this the last time someone started a topic like this. I'm on my iPod right now so I'm not able to find it easily, but if nobody links it before I get home I'll look it up.
The bottom line is that the first version of ANY game you play is always the best. The changes aren't in the game -- they're in YOU. You aren't the newbie who found a cool new game and learned to play it; you can never be that person again. That's why playing the old versions never recaptures that magic. The essential difference is in the player, not the game.

That's your opinion and your entitled to it. IF you don't like the new changed just go back in time with mcnogilista.
Well, at least you were nice about.-_-
Please excuse this retarded post. My friend got on my computer again. I like Minecraft, and I like the updates.

Except on Reddit

The game got better. Live with it.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Watch what happens when I say this: I don't like broccoli.
Instant hate.
