Guns, bullets and a steak knife is irrelevant to the game. Sure, we can get these stuff via mods but the report illustrated the XBox360 version of the game which unlikely had mods as far as I'm aware. All I can say is it's a pathetic excuse to blame a sandbox game for the irresponsibility of the parents. I'm sure his daddy bought him GTA V last week.
Wouldn't need weapons for self-defense if weapons were illegal in the first place. Just look at Iceland or Denmark, weapons are illegal and people are not even locking their doors at night. On Iceland there are only 700 police officers and none of them are armed.
Too bad guns has been legal in the US for so many years now that everyone got one, so if it was made illegal it would take decades before no civilians owned arms without special permissions (Like for hunting).
the real thing is some guy could smuggle a gun from mexico or Canada and go shot every body and no body could stop him because they would not have a gun. There are also many other reasons that we should have guns I would happily go on a rant for you

Is shrek really love and life? I need love and a life. =D
This doesn't prove a direct connection though. Yes this may prove that violent crimes are going down, and it may prove that violent video game sales are rising, but how does it prove that the two are connected?
"sans-serif">satasticly and logically speaking. "sans-serif">if violent videos games had a connection to violent crime, or crime at all. the amount of crimes committed "sans-serif">because video games would go up. if so, more crimes that wouldn’t have happened otherwise would happen. meaning that so long as the regular crime rate has no reason to drop dramatically, the overall crime rate should incline. but sense its not, that either means substantial unknown variables are at work, or video games have little to affect to acts of violent crime.
_________________________________________________________ "sans-serif">Parents have always searched for things to blame the actions of there kids on so they don’t have to face the consequences. "its not my fault he’s violent, its the video games. Let us get rid of them and everything will be ok" its a cheap and weak way to get out of trouble. this kid gets to stay with his parents now, because they blamed a video game and now there all of a sudden just another victim to the "violent videogame epidemic." we all know that video games didn’t make this kid bring weapons to school its completely bad parenting and negligence of safety precautions, thank God the father was smart enough to take out the firing pin, but the kid shouldn’t even be able to access the gun to begin with.
of course I’m outraged that the media portrays videogames so poorly, especially when I’m going for a degree in software engineering just for making them. But I’m even more upset that this kid gets to stay with his parents. if they hadn’t found something to blame for his actions they would have had to actually face the truth, they were parenting very poorly. And the child would have rightfully been taken away from his parents whom apparently leave open access to firearms in there house. that kid and or someone else, could have died from that level of carelessness. but blaming minecraft seems to have gotten them out of it
we need to fix this, people are getting away with serious things by blaming videogames. we need to somehow start sending positive messages about video games, not only for the sake of them not being hated by the general public, but for people and parents will stop blaming them and getting away with letting their children do all sorts of crazy crap.
I'd probably get into trouble for saying what I want to about this, so I'll just cut out the details and say this: it's really easy to bring dangerous items into public schools. (I don't know that from personal experience, but I have seen it happen.)
it really is, some schools have metal dectors. but most you can walk right into with whatever you please. i live in central Florida where there are tons fo horse farms, so its pretty country out here. idk how man times ive accidently brought (fairly large) knives to school in my backback.

People don’t get a concealed weapons license to commit crime; they get it to protect themselves from said crime. Criminals will always find a way to get guns, they are almost never obtained legally or, in fact from some who DID have a gun legally. Dan Noyes for the Center of Investigative Reporting reported that "Stolen guns account for only about 10% to 15% of guns used in crimes." and that "there are a number of sources that allow guns to fall into the wrong hands, with gun thefts at the bottom of the list"
this means Criminals don’t get guns by buying them with a concealed weapons license, or even from stealing then from someone who got it Legally. They have secondary sources, untraceable dealers who sell illegally imported and distributed weapons. On top of this something the media never portrays is the number of violent crimes stopped by legal gun carriers. "Restaurant owner shoots and kills armed robbers, Man killed in attempted robbery, Two armed robbers get shot during home invasion, Mass shooting stopped by armed volunteer security guard, School shooter stopped by armed college students, Grandma stops intruder, Pizza Hut delivery driver says his gun saved his life" given that only 10%-15% of these where committed through using legal, unregistered weapons I’d say that people having Legal guns prevented some potentially serious incidents.
The amount of crimes stopped by Legal Weapon carriers is staggering, much higer then the amount of crimes committed by legal weapon carriers. But you have to search the internet to find these types of articles. why? because the Media reports on whatever is more interesting and a a gunman being shutdown in less than 5 minutes is much less interesting then a school full of children dying. As disturbing as it may seem. the news and the media are a market, they will report on whatever they think will be more popular ad get more attention. And right now gun rights and violent crimes catch people’s attention. From what I can tell and from all the evidence I’ve seen. Making guns illegal (in the united states at least) would only cause in increase in violent crime and unprevented incidents. you used Iceland and Denmark as examples, but you failed to recognize that these countries are much scarcely populated then the united states, both in density and total population. And even if there tends to be a lower crime rate in these countries, we are talking about the United States. a totally different set of parameters that appear to suggest that taking away legal firearms would be a very bad thing.
I’m sorry if I start a flame war, but I feel very strongly about gun control. I’ve had family in church shootings and other incidents that could have been prevented, or saved, if one person was a legal carrier. When I’m 21, I plan on taking full advantage of my legal rights and if anyone’s life is threatened when I’m around then something will be done about it.
I think we should not allow this discussion to turn into a philosophical debate about what is a weapon, who should be allowed to have one, and whether the use of weapons is a cause or an effect of a violent temperament. We're talking about a specific situation involving a specific court case, a specific kid, and even, from what I could see on the video, a specific edition of Minecraft. For the sake of not getting into a flamewar, let's keep it there.
I'm going to brand this as bad parenting. Many people are so blind (Or ignorant) as to see that it is their abysmal parenting skills and not external sources such as video games.
WOW. Minecraft in itself does have some violent stuff in it but would never be this violent. It is just simply a game like Dota 2. So I don't think that that should have happened because other people are playing games that are really more violent that this. I think that the kid was a retarded that wanted attention.
I like how they call it the "zombie-slaying game, Minecraft" as though the game is all about killing things with knives and guns, and definitely not about running around in a fantasy block world with a shiny blue pickaxe as is clearly shown on the cover of the console version. It's not just Minecraft, it's the zombie-slaying game Minecraft. Perhaps if people actually researched games beforehand, these accusations wouldn't happen.
He probably uses mods. Minecraft isn't a vionlent video game, unless you consider slaying dragons violent.
While it's not certain from the stories, they have posted pictures of the XBox 360 edition. No mods.
The father is quoted as saying that in MC, you use a hammer to dig with and knives and guns to kill zombies. Except, of course, that not only doesn't the (forcibly vanilla) 360 edition have hammers at all, I don't even know of any mod where hammers are a digging tool. Pickaxes, yes. Shovels, yes. Hammers ... not even in the version he apparently had, and if there are mods that have them (which I assume there are, there are mods that have everything) I seriously doubt if they can be used for digging, at least not more effectively than a flower can. And, again, 360 ... no mods ... no guns. No knives, either; we rip those steaks apart with our hands and teeth!
If, contrary to the pictures published with the article, he was playing a PC version of Minecraft in which one used hammers to dig with and knives and guns to kill zombies, that would be so heavily modded that it wasn't really Minecraft anymore, but rather what someone built on a foundation of Minecraft. If there was (and if there is, dear God, please don't tell me about it!) a Hello Kitty mod ... I hope I didn't just curse HelloKittyCraft into existence! ... that wouldn't make Minecraft a "Hello Kitty game" after all. Minecraft is what you buy from Mojang; what someone can turn it into -- like turning a pressure cooker into a bomb, or a baseball bat into a murder weapon -- is not part of the intent. Pressure cookers are not bombs, even though the Boston Marathon bombers used them as such. Baseball bats are not murder weapons, even though a guy I used to know used one as such. And Minecraft is not a "zombie-slaying game" even if it can be modded to become such.
More importantly, how the hell did a kid sneak a HAMMER into school? I don't care it he put it in his backpack, hammers are heavy. Someone must have heard the claking and banging sounds while he ways walking around.
Minecraft is rated 10+ by ESRB. So it's the kid's problem that he plays a game for older people. [/semi-sarcasm]
Still, minecraft isn't mainly about killing. It would be much more easy to understand that a kid who plays CoD or something like that would bring a gun...

Hahaha, I agree. If weapons were illegal, there would be no need in "self-defense" weapons.
Personally, I think this is all crazy. Minecraft does not influence children to bring guns and weapons to school. I also think that kid was stupid for doing such a thing. -.-
This is an example of truly someone's irresponsibility and stupidity.
Where anyone points a finger anymore and marks it blamable.
Mobs don't explode into pieces or shed blood. Blood doesn't appear on your weapons after use. They simply flash red and fall over. And, that's about the most "violent" thing you can ever do.
Otherwise, Minecraft is simply a crafting game. Screw those people. They don't know what a violent game is until they really broaden themselves and play other games. Try GTA, morons.
There are a whole slew of zombie killing games out there, but they boil it down to Minecraft out of all of them? What about Deadrising...Left 4 Dead....Call of Duty with their DLC....Dead Space....
It's also not like the zombies in Minecraft were drooling blood or anything. They're simply green with the tattered Steve skin and with black eyes. Oi.

oh ._. i posted before i saw this. oops
Minecraft is NOT a zombie-slaying game, neither does it have knifes, hammers, guns.
