I mean, I don't think I've ever heard anything more stupid, other than "Video games will turn you into a cold-blooded, merciless killer."
MINECRAFT DOESN'T EVEN FREAKING HAVE GUNS OR HAMMERS.
The only ranged weapons in the game are bows, splash potions, and snowballs. And even then, bows are usually only used for hunting, potions don't exist, and snowballs are non-lethal.
Human ignorance and stupidity at it's finest right there. If minecraft was really as bad as the parents make it, why did they allow their son to play it in the first place? All they are doing is trying to place blame on this game that dosen't even contain many of the things the kid brought to school. It's a poor attempt to hide the fact that it's the parent's fault, not the game. And some reporter seems to have taken the bait...

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
This should not be blamed on minecraft; especially seeing how minecraft promotes hard work, science, and mathematics.
If anything an incident like this should be blamed on the parents for not raising the child as they should have. (and people wonder why our prisons are overflowing these days).
I just found a great comment on that video.
"Yeah thats a pretty weak excuse. I bet the dad bought his kid GTA last week and just doesn't want to admit it."
And how...is this even VIOLENT?
No way! Minecraft has no guns or hammers, or knives. Just swords, pickaxes, mobs, building blocks, and many many more.
When a mob dies - it will not generate blood but it will just fall with a shade of red - and then disappear in a puff of smoke.
That's all I can say. How can you love a game so much that you act it out with real weapons. Ok so there is swords but seriously guns and a sledgehammer!!

that makes more sense
Also interesting he was playing it on the XBOX and when this was made and still now there aren't any mods for the XBOX version of the game. So modifications for guns and sledgehammers and the like is impossible
Well, too bad my world domination plan is still in Beta phase when the gov. is shut down. Such unfortunate timing. There house would be one of my top 10 to get "Manhandled".
Breaking news.
TV has violence
So does music and movies
And real life and the news.
Minecraft has no hammers, no guns and no knifes (if you don't count swords). I'm sure the reporters and the news had no idea what minecraft was. They showed the xbox 360 version in that. They probably have no idea what else its on. Pretty sad that one PG (or in Australia it is on the xbox) can in courage violence and guns. Pretty sad. I have no idea where he got the idea of guns and hammers and swords. His parents probably bought him GTA or COD or another game like that.
Minecraft doesn't even have guns in it. Or hammers. What do you all think of this?
I think the comments section of that news page makes this hateful old *******'s heart feel a little less miserable. It is good to see people are finally beginning to see through this nonsense.
What a generation of people that they hide their worthless "parenting" behind a video game. What a society where this argument has been considered valid for so long.

here is a another fact is that minecraft has been used in schools to teach about logic circuits. so how can this be a violent game. people just want something to blame when they can't control there children. the parents are to blame for not being in there kids life. So for all the people that think that games create bad behavior need to go get a life

The parent clearly has something wrong with him. You DONT leave a gun out, sledge hammer and anything of the sorts. And if you absolutely must, tell your child not to mess around with them. Bad parents generally make bad kids.

Why do people compare "violent" video games with certain felonies? It just ticks me off.
Because it shields them from having to accept personal culpability for the tragedies that arise from neglecting their children. When I was a child my parents checked my backpack every night and every morning before school. They knew what was in my room and I couldn't have gotten ahold of the family firearms if I had to. They were lower middle class people, two parents with a job and household chores. I don't buy this "Life is busy" crap. You make time for the important things. Or, at least you did, once upon a time.
In almost every single one of these cases where students brought weapons to school, it's like a broken record. "We didn't know Billy was so sad. We didn't know he had (access to) a gun. We didn't know we didn't know we didn't know". Never mind the fact that according to the CIA, who's profiled pretty much every one of these children, they practically BROADCAST their feelings and intentions via every medium they have access to. The call for help behavior can last for YEARS.
While it may be hard to sympathize with people who commit monstrous acts of violence, many of them could have had happy, productive, loving lives had their parents not been worthless. A little intervention by adults with parenting skills on par with the common house cat is all it would have taken to save dozens, if not hundreds of accumulated lives.
But no, it's the video games. Just like it was rock music in our parents' generation. Movies, Dungeons and Dragons, even radio has been a scape goat. ANYTHING to not have to admit to personal failing and damn the consequences to society and the personal liberties of all the other 298,999,999 residents of the US who managed to not be completely worthless.

Yeah, I'm mad bro. And you should be too.
Wow. This sums up everything. Mind If I screencap this for future reference?
A small group of people feel like they can do anything bad they want to. Right now, they blame it on games. Before video games, they blamed it on TV. Before TV, they blamed it on rock and roll. Before rock and roll, they blamed it on comic books. Before comic books, they blamed it on movies. Before movies, they blamed it on cheap novels. (and let's not forget Dan White, who blamed it on junk food)
What video games did Jack the Ripper play? Or Ed Gein? Or H. H. Holmes? Or Elizabeth Bathory?
Video games aren't responsible.
TV isn't responsible.
Music isn't responsible.
Comic books aren't responsible.
Movies aren't responsible.
Even books aren't responsible.
Evil people are responsible for the evil they choose to do.
Not to be nit picky but (see how I did that)
You forgot D&D. That was blamed after Rock and Roll and before TV.
Violent people are violent by nature, and made worse by environment, and nuture. You choose to embrace the darkness or the light. I have played video games for nearly 40 years, spent the last 12 studying martial arts, played D&D for decades. I can shoot a gun, and without a doubt kill someone. But do I. NO because it is wrong, and I know it. Better yet I believe it is wrong.
If anything COD showed me how easy it is to die by violent means. You make one false move on a server and your spawning. Did not take me long to realize that playing soldier is a short lived carrier.
Hatchet jobs for ratings is all the news produces now.
Yeah, how in the world did he bring a steak knife, sledge hammer, and a firearm to school? That is now the definition of miserable parenting right there... It would be so obvious to see him carrying those it's almost like they might of told/wanted him to do it.

Apparently, they're just complaining about games they never even played.
