I'll just say something you shouldn't give, and that is an overpowered PvP kit. Nothing turns off new players more than someone spawn killing them with unlimited diamond armor and weapons, just because they donated five measly bucks.

Haha one of the best part of my server is that it has keep inventory on and /togglepvp so you can have a nice modded survival
Also yeah hehe I hate giving items that allow you to skip the fun. I racked up 220.50 last month and 220 this month so far (Only 9/17/13 :P) because the donors love the server.
If it is a griefing server, have a plot of protected land. Also, colored chat means everything on large servers. It helps your chat be noticable. Make sure they have a rank, and everyone knows who they are.

Oh thanks but its modded survival with protected plots. We even have custom griefing protection to prevent containers from mods to be exploited.
A /hat command. This gives them NO advantage of any sort, but it adds a certain 'lols' factor that appeals to quite a few people.
Alternate chat colors.
The option to have a specific item of their's have its name replaced with colored text. (this would only be possible while staff of an appropriate rank was online)
A 'Rank' next to your name in chat. A way of showing "I love the server enough that I paid x dollars to it"
..There actually aren't that many things you can give players that they won't find a way to turn to their advantage... We are a resourceful bunch.

Balance is the key. You need some time away and we understand that. But once that's done? We'll meet you on any server (yes, even factions) with a sword in one hand, and a pickaxe in the other.

Eh I love the simpleness of that but I really want someone special.

Someone special? Well, idk what you mean...
Just in case you meant 'something' and it's totally not creepy in any way, I'd suggest looking up some fun plugins specifically for non-gameplay related donor rewards.
Such as on hypixel's minigame server, the 'trololol' hat causes a player to appear to constantly drop diamonds. Of course, no diamonds are actually dropped.

If you have an economy on the server you can make a shop
area for donators where they can buy unobtainable blocks, like:
water block,
Bedrock,
Enderportal
But still make them really really expensive.
If I had access to ANY of these blocks I'd never have to worry about another player ever again...
And I would be feared for the things I did to others...
So feared...

I would suggest some commands that may be considered op, but put ridiculous cooldowns on them. So for example, you could give someone /heal, but them put a 48hr cooldown on it. Maybe give higher donor ranks smaller cooldowns. Just some thoughts. /jump is always a good non-op perk. Maybe have a small kit with some things that may be annoying to get, and again put a big cooldown on it. Hope this helps! - Doc
As someone who has never really played multiplayer before (except for during a short while on one vanilla server), are the prices above an actual example of the way things are on some servers? And, do people really pay prices like that? Please tell me the prices are much more believable.
Here I am, having payed under $30 for the game itself, and to warp somewhere in one world, you want as much as $75, and if I understood correctly, that's after having to purchase a rank that has the right to purchase using that!? I can't be the only one who sees how insane that is. People really buy these things? At prices like that? I wouldn't pay anything out of principal belief that the game shouldn't be segregated with purchasable unlocks, but those prices are just insane. I'm not sure if it's the people buying it who are to blame or the ones charging it... *sigh*

Thankfully, Mojang has begun enforcing its EULA and is starting to put a big dent into people abusing the game for their own financial profit...
Now, I've owned servers and had donor perks. Never had one worth more than $35 though. Just the PRICING made players happier about being on the server and I didn't pay a dime out of my pocket for months. Server owners that offer MASSIVELY over-priced donor ranks are almost always looking for a quick buck before the server gets shut down.

Guys, many people don't understand the term 'donating'. They take it for granted. People are too selfish and they think they should get something in return. If you are going to give them something in return, make it so the game is still fair and not confusing.
I think the best perks for donators are:
COMMANDS:
/hat, /tptoggle, /recipe, /ptime.
PERKS:
Write colour on signs, write colour in chat, write colour in /msg, no teleportation delay, donator shop (sell things for more, buy things cheaper).
GOOD PLUGINS FOR PERKS:
EchoPet (Pet Plugin), PlayerVaults (Vault Plugin; only give a couple of slots so it isn't too unfair), DisguiseCraft (Creative Servers ONLY!!).
As I said, I don't think they should be unfair things that people donate for. If they had a kit that gave them 2x better things than the starter kit that would be too unfair.
All of these perks + commands are associated with the 'Essentials' plugin.
If you are looking for a good permissions plugin get 'PermissionsEx' or 'GroupManager'.
I am very sure that donor perks are against the MC EULA.
This is a really old thread... Two years O_o I don't know why yall are still commenting on it.. xD but to correct you:
No, donor perks its self to not go against the EULA. However donor perks that affect gameplay or gives you an advantage in game do. An example of some of these perks that would be things like kits, /feed, /repair, /fly, etc.
Unless however, it goes to the whole server, like a booster.
Not too many servers follow the EULA though so..
You could give everyone limited protection, with the option to pay money to have more protection. It makes sense: that protection and the land within it costs space on your server.
Another possibility would be to sell obsidian in microtransactions. It's not a particularly rare block but people can get tired of mining it and might want a faster method. It's a lot easier to enjoy an obsidian house when you can spend more time building it than you do gathering the blocks.
Out of the multiplayer servers I played on, my favorite was Shadowblade: players could buy things for in-game currency at an admin shop and they could pay real money for in-game currency. That's not why I liked it, but it was one of the many cool features. Not everything was available at the admin shop, notably absent was enchanted items.

I want ocean content(thanks Möjang!), nether biomes(again thanks!!), and savanna passive mobs (meerkats incoming!?).
Guys hes asking for what donator perks should be so please shut up and stop saying donating shouldnt get you this bla bla bla..
I think you should give them like a option to /particles.. vip space when the server is full... and stuff on that line
