I know, this has probably been asked A LOT for older versions. I promise I'll be as easy as easy goes!
I've been spending in all about 2 days now trying to fix the Java Virtual Machine error. Whenever I downloaded 1.6.1 and attempted to boot the game, I received an error that said:
Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Error: Could not create Java Virtual Machine
Error: A fatal error has occurred, program will now close
I know that there is a way to fix this, with the .bat file technique, but that hasn't helped any. I tried fixing my Java Virtual Machine, uninstalling and re-installing Java's latest version, and uninstalling and re-installing Minecraft, but nothing seems to work. I really would love to get to experience the new update, so if anyone has any tips I would be grateful beyond who knows what.

You aren't the only one with this problem. I used to run a code I found online to make minecraft work through the launcher, but with 1.6, I can no longer use that method.
Also, the "Play in Browser" option has been removed. I hope it comes back or I may not be able to play minecraft for a loooong time.
Glad to find someone with a similar issue! 1.6 has gotten a new launch, and it's not working on my computer. I'm trying clearing Minecraft off my system completely as well as Java, and god forbid that doesn't work!
It sort of crushed my heart like a grape when I heard about the browser option being taken down, and from the looks of twitter I don't think it will be returning D: If I can't fix this issue, then I might as well kiss Minecraft goodbye.

All I had to do to fix this problem when It happened to me is completely uninstall java.. and delete minecraft from your pc. Then install minecraft again FIRST. when you load minecraft it will tell it needs java to run. Accept what it says and let java install.
That fixed it for me.
