My first house was literally hollowed out of the ground, with a dirt jump-stair staircase to the entrance and a hollowed out 5x5x5 room. (It even had a door!)
My current singleplayer house is built out of logs and snow, in a Taiga biome. There are 4 main rooms: Processing, filled with crafting tables, furnaces, anvils, and a bed, Warehousing, all chests and a single ender chest, Vestibule, the entryway leading into the other 3 rooms with glowstone lamps, and Library, a region with an enchantment table gateway and more anvils.
My first server houses are all similar to my first singleplayer house, except it was deeper and blocked off from outside access. The only way in or out was /sethome.
My first house was a 300 x 300 x 50 cobblestone castle. It was a really nice place. Then one day, not knowing how far exploding TNT flies, I built a working TNT block at 16x scale, and blew up my house.
Let's see ya top that one.
I just got a random idea to make a house primarily out of water and glass. No, this doesn't really relate to this thread, but I tend to remember things better after I write them down. So thanks.
I went to a mountain and dug out a hole with a door, and the first thing I did with the wood I collected was make a sign hanging over the door that said "Home Sweet Home".
This thread is really redundant as the populous had their first houses built with logs, wood planks, cobble, dirt, sand, sandstone, and stone. After that one will learn more about minecraft and start building with different available resources like glass, quartz, bricks, and the new hardened clay block.
My first house was a decent sized box made of wood planks for the walls and glass for the roof, so I could look up at night and see the stars, then there was a lowered part were my bed was. There was also a cellar thing full of food. (it was hard to contain food back then, because it didn't stack)
My first house was made out of cobblestone with glass slots for the windows. There were chests, a workbench, and two furnaces plus my bed inside. That was it. I think it was in a desert. Now I make wooden houses.
Surprisingly wood planks. It was just a box with a hole in one side to check for any monsters. (I didn't know how to make a door and was terrified by all of the monsters, but curious. My first experience with an enderman wasn't the best, either.)
Dirt in a slight dent in a mountain with an opening at the top. Was kinda like this
Green = mountain. black = the cave like shape. And brown is obviously the basic shape of how I built my house. It was in early alpha. I still play on that world now. But it's been built up a ton now with plenty structures

But my first actual house was made of planks and cobble.

come to think of it that is quite good use for dirt as a "bunker"
probable need obsideon in the inside to give you proper protection though...
It was more like a shack than a house.
