I need to know, should Mojang allow minecraft players to change their name for free? Also should they make Rei's Minimap and Optifine built into the game? Reply your opinion
Name change, no for this reason, it will make it harder for server owners to keep banned players banned if those players could simply change there username.
The mods. Yes I think it is Mojangs right as the game owners to be able to implement those mods into the game.
Not all server owners likes the use of banning IP address like myself I highly dislike it. Plus there are plugins that can be used to change your in game name on servers if the server has it and they allow you access.
Mojang is already working on the name change feature, it will use a UUID so that each player has a unique identifier and the server ban lists will be automatically updated if you change your username. It will eventually be included as part of the Mod API system updates once it is completed.
There is no reason to add mods like Rei's or Optifine as part of the main game, once the Mod API is instituted both will be available for download and install from Mojang with just a click. There will be a "base game" and then a mile long list of mods that can each be added with just a mouse click, simple.
They will have a specific ID for each player so that player's ID is banned. Also I hate rei's minimap so I wouldn't like it. Also optifine already refused to have it implemented.
Name-changing should have Steam's name changing system. You have your account name you always log in with, but in-game you'll have a different name.

Message me yours if you want to trade in Animal Crossing: New Leaf or just need some friends to play with. I can also do Pokemon trades in Pokemon X(or Y), but I don't have any good stuff, and the only good stuff I have is not for trade so...send me requests anyway.

What he said^
. I think there should be some sort of price or restriction to keep things stable for mojang, but if the price is too high you may as well buy a new minecraft license for a name, in which case, what's the point of the name change to begin with?
Optifine would be a HELL YA! From me
Minimap I would only agree on if entity tracking was disabled, cave view....basically all the stuff shut off in multiplayer. That pretty much leaves a way point system, and seeing everything around you, and in either case it makes maps kinda pointless (can see area around you already, and if you are given cords they are more efficient then a navigating with a map) so there would have to be some way of balancing it with it me thinks.
I don't think that they should make the name change at all. I think that the name that people pick is what they should stick with. Also Rei's Minimap would be OP to be added to vanilla. It would take away from the use of maps in the game.
No name change - Too many issues and problems with servers and plugins. Not worth the headache.
No minimap - Breaks survival, already banned on almost every true survival server. They already added craftable maps.
No optifine - They shouldn't need to copy a free mod to optimize a game they created. Mojang needs to fix their own problems for making such an inefficient game.

So they shouldn't optimise their game just because someone else did first?

That is not what he said, he said they need to "fix their own problem" not that they shouldn't fix it.
Mojang is fixing it right now as we speak anyway, the code re-write from JRE5 to JRE6 and revision to include support for OpenGL 2.0 is meant to fix many of the problems that Optifine improves now by fixing the game code itself rather than by adding a patch to it.
I support name changing. Just have an unchangeable playerID that you ban, not a username.
That is what they are doing, they already said that they are going to a UUID system where every player has a unique ID number, the server ban lists will have that encoded number and not just the username of the player so changing your name will not let you get around being banned.

But Optifine.. I'd be fine with Mojang hiring the Optifine crew to focus on and ONLY on performance gains.
Old signature got imageshack'd.
Still no support for name change.
Problem - Hackers have proxies, which allow them to hide behind different IP's.
They would be unbannable.

Banning IP is utterly worthless because almost everyone has a dynamic IP and can change their IP in about two minutes if they want to.

We have maps for those, except with broken way of marking waypoint.
