But you did imply it, that's how most everyone will see it. Then you bring it up again in the form of an apology. I understood exactly what he was saying.
That's how most everyone will see it? How do you know that?
and you understood exactly what he was saying? are you joking me? That guy even stated he doesn't care about whether he can be understood or not.
I really do think saddles should have a crafting recipe, but complaining for it isn't the answer. People wanted craftable saddles for a long time, people just started complaining because a really good use was added for them. I guess, to me at least, it would just make sense to be able to craft saddles with leather and other materials.
Yeah, I can see why players want saddles. But the thing is, if they kept adding recipes for items that were only available from dungeons, what would be the point of doing dungeon hunting? Literally everything else from the dungeon chests aside from saddles and horse armor can be found by other means. Those 2 things is what keeps dungeon hunting exciting for a lot of players. The items then become prizes for players, and actually something worth keeping. Like thing about it, have you ever cared for an item you could just craft anywhere? No. But when you find a saddle or horse armor, you guard that thing with your life.
Imo, there needs to be more items like saddle and horse armor that are only available from dungeons.

What you're not understanding is that you can use mods to alter YOUR gameplay. The developers of this game do not have to give everyone everything and just because others can ignore the fact that saddles are craftable doesn't mean it's right.
Minecraft survival wouldn't be survival if it dumped all these optional things to make the game easy just because you either can't follow gameplay as intended by it's developers or you're too lazy to install a mod that will allow you to craft saddles.
Crafting saddles wouldn't need to be optional if it is such a good idea.
What makes it wrong is having to add mods to a game, when the saddles are already there just not turned on. As i stated before, you could just play the game the way YOU want and ignore that they were turned on. so could everyone else who doesn't like crafting saddles, its a valid obvious solution. I can't ignore that they are turned off. Hence why i am here. Dead horse or not, i am not going to be quiet about it.
Voiding your 10 reasons would mean your reasons are wrong....
Building a village doesn't require that you go into dungeons or strongholds or whatever.
Survival does involve luck but you can't expect villagers to immediately offer what you want. It takes time and effort to breed villagers. Getting the saddle isn't intended to just be handed over to you.

I will post what I said to someone else
it was an experiment. I had to see if there was some validity to the whole villager comments. Which in my experiments were FALSE. Your solution is invalid. You may continue to believe your solution is valid if you wish.

sigh, you just want to argue..
But you're not listening, the developers of the game, the people who code and update it; did not intend for it to be craftable. Somethings just shouldn't be changed. What's wrong with using mods? Why should they have to make every single thing more easier to acquire just because others don't have to?
What is stopping you from using creative to spawn a horse saddle? If you don't want to take the effort to look into dungeons or make a village then that is YOUR fault. If you have generated structures then that is your fault. It's like saying there should be another way to get into the end just because I turned off generated structures.

It is a valid solution because you can trade villagers for saddles. Yes you may be unlucky or the village trading system may be bad (shrugs) but it's still a valid solution.
The main way to get saddles is suppose to be from generated structures. Disabling them doesn't mean there should be a crafting recipe.

Exactly, I really don't see why people disable features and ask for crap. Like wtf? If you're going to play a superflat world, you better expect there to be no certain blocks, like mycelium. Maps like superflat are supposed to contain a challenge. It's not for you to go whining on the forums and asking to make it easier. And no, just because you disabled the features of survival, that doesn't mean there needs to be a crafting recipe for every item.

Off topic to make a point. This saddle on and saddle off issue is similar to the gay one of recent events. Some are saying that being gay will destroy our country. LOL Their reasoning is that everyone will be gay and no children will be born
So what your saying is that saddles being tuned on or you imply this. it will destroy the game. very simular a belief. it wont ruin the game, just simply don't craft saddles.
up until if i am not mistake 1.5 saddles were craftable. I read that in the wiki. They did intend to make them craftable. or they would have NEVER made a recipe. Then suddenly. they changed it. Making it mine-explorer rather than minecraft the game it was supposed to be!

With your reasoning they can just add craftable diamonds, flying potions, and a lot of crazy and op things just because they can be ignored.
sigh, you just want to argue..
Just like you, I stand up to my opinion to the subject.
Let me just add more to this:
Here is a quote from a stickied thread:
"It can be optional!"
Possibly the most overused excuse that most people make when they try to defend a bad suggestion of theirs. Options are left to major things, such as structures, cheats, the type of gamemode, things like that. Don't tack on the optional crap if people think your idea is bad.
If your suggestion is good and balanced enough, it doesn't have to be optional, get it? "Wait, my new cave mob that can insta-kill players isn't liked? Well, it can be turned off!" No. Stupid move. Mojang won't add an option for one mob. It doesn't work that way. Though they did kinda do that with the "bonus chest", but whatever.
"It can be ignored!" Thank you, Bigcheecho
This excuse gets pretty stupid when people suggest things that actually can't be ignored. When you make that thread about being given the option to throw TNT where it explodes on impact, don't say "well if you don't like it just don't use it." That's retarded. Sure, you may not want to use it, but that's not gonna stop other people on SMP servers from chucking loads of TNT at your house. So... did you ignoring the feature fix anything? No. It didn't.
Also, if the idea is crappy and it's something no one would care about, being able to ignore it doesn't salvage the idea. Because if that was the case, Mojang would've made the effort to add something to the game no one would use. Therefore, effort wasted.
Yeah, I can see why players want saddles. But the thing is, if they kept adding recipes for items that were only available from dungeons, what would be the point of doing dungeon hunting?
I've always thought dungeons were pretty pointless in Minecraft.... and rather dull at that. If the point was to make hunting for dungeons exciting, adding a few trinkets into a randomly placed chest is hardly something that makes for riveting content.
I've always had much more excitement digging around at level 5 or so for diamonds and wondering if the next block I pull out of the wall is going to drain a lava lake. That and I have some deep satisfaction in terms of making some epic buildings. I've had so much fun on extreme survival maps (aka survival island or even SkyBlock) that I took the time to turn one into a mod. I threw a dungeon into that mod just sort of as a joke... noting that it really is one of the most pointless things in the game.
Oh.... the real point of throwing in the dungeon? To allow players to have a saddle so they can complete the "When Pigs Fly" achievement. Well that and my real use for dungeons: As a seed for a mob grinder that is mob specific. I would get rid of the dungeon if vanilla Minecraft had craftable saddles. I suppose dungeons have one other use: a source of mossy cobblestone. I can imagine a dozen different ways to work that into the game from which dungeons wouldn't be required.
I really wouldn't cry if dungeons were completely removed from the game and the spawners were just randomly placed on maps with increased range as well. If it was just the one achievement and riding around a derpy looking pig that just aimlessly wandered around your world with you on its back, I agree there is only a need for one saddle per player or heck for each world even in SMP. The introduction of horses changes that though, as horses can be a very productive and useful feature. Especially a mule.
One thing I'll note as well is that I don't want to bother with having to remove the saddle from one creature and put it on another one just to be able to ride the thing. Yes, it doesn't take all that much time, but it still is a time waster when all I want to do is have my steed ready to go when I'm out and about adventuring in the world. Since it can be obtained from villagers, even the notion that it is exclusive content to just dungeons goes out of the window.
Besides.... for those players who don't want to have craftable saddles there is an easy solution: simply don't craft the saddle. Problem solved. The rest of us who want the recipe can have it and you can live in your own separate reality.
If we were talking about something that was really exotic like a dragon's skull or heart, I'd agree that would need to be something that should be discovered or found after much searching. But for crying out loud, this is very nearly one of the oldest inventions of mankind and likely pre-dates history itself... ranking right there with making fire and an axe. To say that "the player" can't craft a saddle goes beyond any sort of logic at all compared to all of the other things that "the player" can craft.
But you're not listening, the developers of the game, the people who code and update it; did not intend for it to be craftable. Somethings just shouldn't be changed. What's wrong with using mods? Why should they have to make every single thing more easier to acquire just because others don't have to?
Of course you are forgetting that the recipe to craft a saddle was in the game.... at least in several snapshots until it was removed. We aren't talking every single thing and there certainly can be stuff that can't be crafted.... but really, a saddle being uncraftable and an exotic ancient artifact that we lack the technology to create today?
What you are suggesting is invalid because if it were turned on. You can always choose as a rule for yourself to not craft one. Hence not taking away from your dungeon treks or whatever other method you employ.

Making them craftable was probably a mistake like the op said.
"Making it mine-explorer rather than minecraft the game it was supposed to be!"
Are you still going on with crafting logic? I have told you several times that you can use mods to get a saddle crafting recipe but you say that is wrong on the basis that because it can be "ignored" means it should be craftable.

Because some of us don't want to be sheeple as game play goes.
If the community really wants saddles to be craftable and the developers think implementing it is a good idea then that would be perfectly fine with me. However that isn't the case.

My suggestion is valid. The reason is valid. This isn't about TNT, saddles don't explode, bad analogy. It is an OPTION you CAN ignore if you don't want to use it. That's fact.
its funny "cheats on" is an option, "bonus chests" is an option. so these had to be optional. WHY? so that people could CHOOSE them or not same with saddles.
I disagree with the first post's statement 10000000000000000% percent.
It isn't even certain that you will get saddles in dungeon chests, and they are even rarer than mineshafts. Horses are easy to find. So why shouldn't saddles.
Also-Why would you want a challenge? Challenges are not fun.
If the community really wants saddles to be craftable and the developers think implementing it is a good idea then that would be perfectly fine with me. However that isn't the case.
There are better analogies that can be applied with this. Using something so complex as being gay to something that's in a game is just crazy imo.
No it was quite to the point and it fits nicely. YOU implied that the whole game will be destroyed if saddles being crafted is turned on. The analogy fits well as to the destroyed aspect.

we all challenge ourselves in different ways. if those who want to go dredging in dungeons to find their saddle, let them. We should be allowed to play the game they we wish to play it (this isn't a game destroying issue being able to craft saddles) One poster said if they turn saddles crafting on, he will quit Minecraft. LOL .... I am not quitting if they dont!
Every single topic.. Every single post.... horses... saddles... Whats the point in arguing over something so stupid, you only need ONE saddle because you can take the saddle off one horse and put it on the other, but no no no no people will still argue because they think that they are always right, that saddles should have a crafting recipe because their too lazy to look for a generated structure or to trade with a villager. All they want is for mojang to hold their hands and give them recipes for everything.
No it was quite to the point and it fits nicely. YOU implied that the whole game will be destroyed if saddles being crafted is turned on. The analogy fits well as to the destroyed aspect.
Of course it won't destroy the whole game, the point being is that
* The Development team of MC (Jeb, Dinnerbone, Grum, etc.) decided that crafting saddles should not happen because they said making saddles exclusive to dungeons would boost exploration.
* (I'm not sure on this point but from what I observe it's majority say no recipe) The majority of the community don't think that a crafting recipe is needed for saddles. This indicates to the devs that they probably shouldn't make saddles craftable.
* Saddles being hard to get is part of survival. Horses are a very good source of transportation in game so it shouldn't be so easy to get. That being said, saddles are somewhat common in dungeons.
*Your point of having a crafting recipe because you disabled generated structures if invalid because you have limited your gameplay by doing that. Meaning you aren't entitled to get something you disabled.
*What is so wrong with using mods or creative to get what you want just because you won't put the effort as intended? Mojang shouldn't have to add every bit of accommodation.
How about we end this debate my agreeing to disagree. It's obvious that neither of us can convince each other that their opinion is more valid than the other. I would never quit minecraft over something like saddles being craftable.
If you agree to stop debating then I will too (as in stop debating with you).
Hey everyone. I have seen all of these topics about making saddles craftable, and their bad reasons why. I want to make as good point, and tell them why they should remain the way they are. It's the other side's turn to make their point.
1. Everything was fine before the dreaded horse saddle was added and then removed. Nobody was complaining about saddles, until now. The horse saddle probably wasn't intended in the first place. It was a feature of Mo' Creatures, that was left in. Jeb realized his mistake, and fixed it. I am happy about it. We do not need an extra item or recipe, to clutter up Minecraft some more.
2. Everyone is saying iron and leather are not so easy to get. Seriously, how much do you guys suck at Minecraft these days? All you want is Minecraft to be easier, so you don't have to go get one. Isn't it easy enough already? Cows and iron are everywhere, and if saddles are craftable, you can get quite a lot of saddles in no time. This will make horses probably one of the first things you get in the game, making it way too easy.
3. Villagers can give saddles to you. All you need is one villager, to get an infinite amount of saddles. Who cares if they are expensive? In my opinion, they should be. Jeb stated he wanted horses to be an end game feature. Getting saddles so early in the game makes it too easy. Also, if you have generated structures turned off, you can cure zombies and make your own village. Then, you have your precious saddles.
4. Saddles can be found in dungeons. This will encourage exploration of caves, which Jeb wants the players to do. If saddles are craftable, then no one would want to get some from a dungeon. The purpose of looting dungeons will decline even more. Same thing with horse armor. They removed the recipe, but added them to dungeon chests, encouraging more exploration. Minecraft shouldn't be a "sit in your shelter and craft until you win" game, it should have more exploration involved too.
5. Why need two separate saddled in the first place? Having two different types of saddles is just plain dumb. No one thinks one is enough? You should be able to put a saddle on a pig AND a horse. People keep saying "Why fit a pig saddle onto a horse?" Well how about this. Why carry hundreds of solid gold blocks all at once? Why break stone blocks with your hands? My point has been made.
6. Everyone is saying servers will get a huge blow from this. Well, they won't. The admins can make a plugin enabling a recipe, or a shop, if they wanted to. At least do a little thinking before posting an invalid argument. If it a vanilla server, with no plugins or stuff, the reasons above explain this, and how it can be fixed. Villagers can make shops in vanilla servers.
There's six reasons why they should have no recipe. Please tell me your thoughts.

You could retexture the saddle and make the crafting recipie involve endstone. Then it would really be a endgame feature.

Its true it can be ignored. saddles don't explode. if you want to go dredging in dungeons then do so, it doesn't mean the rest of everyone should. The game should be about more options not stuck in the mud game play. Why would you even care unless you are going to craft a saddle? is not going to effect your game if you play like always, your point is ridicules.
That's how most everyone will see it? How do you know that?
and you understood exactly what he was saying? are you joking me? That guy even stated he doesn't care about whether he can be understood or not.
Yeah, I can see why players want saddles. But the thing is, if they kept adding recipes for items that were only available from dungeons, what would be the point of doing dungeon hunting?

Version 2.1 now updated for MC 1.6.2
Comparing the issue of being gay to saddles being craftable..... *sigh* It is not a similar belief and that is a very bad analogy.
Because some of us don't want to be sheeple as game play goes.
only because you disagree.
There are better analogies that can be applied with this. Using something so complex as being gay to something that's in a game is just crazy imo.
It isn't even certain that you will get saddles in dungeon chests, and they are even rarer than mineshafts. Horses are easy to find. So why shouldn't saddles.
Also-Why would you want a challenge? Challenges are not fun.
