I do think they need a crafting recipe. But an expensive one! Maybe 3 iron blocks at the bottom instead of ingots. Plus, they could make leather blocks (It'd be weird, but, I mean, hey...) and use that instead of normal leather.

Let's take this guy's blocks and put them somewhere else! -Put Them Somewhere Else Endy
okay logically look at game horses are everywhere they appear in all sorts of areas with trees and water I have even seen them near mountains. if fore some reason they are endgame then why put them everywhere why not have them in just endworld. or maybe they should only appear after the endgame.
and what made a saddle a prize trophy their are other prize trophies in game more valuable then a saddle.
I think some logic is slipping here in the posts as people are drawing at straws to find a logical reason why they have to be non craftable in the first place.
if fore some reason they are endgame then why put them everywhere why not have them in just endworld.
Past a certain x/z, like strongholds? To get the best method of exploration you would be required to have done a lot of exploration already. It would at least make horses harder to obtain than the supposedly lower tier mounted pigs.
In creative mode you don't need to craft saddles. because you can just grab whatever you need. besides creative mode is for building not any kind of game playing.
*sigh…*
Like I said, people will see that little button being annoying. You may not, though, but you are not the people I mentioned.

Iron and leather are easy to obtain. Also saddles being rare encourages minecarts not becoming obsolete.

95% of teens would scream if Justin Beiber was about to jump of the top of the Empire State Building. If you are in the 5% that would grab a seat and some popcorn and yell JUMP! JUMP! JUMP! post this into your sig.
If it is, please tell me what else to add. I wouldn't make it one sided on purpose.
You need to remove the Iron and Leather are hard to get, and the dislike exploring options, for a start. That is just ridicules saying that people don't like exploring or thinking iron/leather are hard to get. Adding something like "It makes sense to be craftable", and maybe something about people playing with structures off wouldn't get saddles would be good options. Also, renaming the questions to, "Why do you not like craftable saddles" and "Why do you want craftable saddles" would also be a nice addition.
And now that the poll's back...it's still flawed and biased. Why is there an option to say you do or do not agree with the statements when there's already an agree or not question?
The options for disagreeing don't line up with the options for agreeing and the options on both are somewhat skewed to favor agree. In particular, here's the biggest two problems: Agree: "It encourages exploration to get saddles.", Disagree: "I don't like exploring to find some saddles." Agree: "Villagers give you infinite saddles", Disagree: "I don't like trading with Villagers to get saddles.
Villager trading isn't something everyone can just suddenly exploit in little time. You need to spawn relatively close to a village, make sure the villagers don't die (a lot of work even without zombie sieges), get varied items in large quantities to trade for emeralds, then find a villager with the saddle trade open and have sufficent emeralds to pay. It's harder getting saddles from villagers than it is from dungeons in most seeds, worlds with villages already builtup by you or others notwithstanding (we should only consider relatively fresh worlds for balance, otherwise we run into serious problems such as iron golem iron farms and needing to generate new chunks due to severe resource depletion). Simply disliking villager trade isn't the only reason you wouldn't want to rely on it.
As for exploration, unless you already have a nether fortress, it's downright luck to find them and dungeons. This isn't the kind of exploration where you can actually follow clues or make educated guesses about where something is. Dungeons are abundant yet hidden randomly (and usually below ground, so ground-level adventuring is useless) and the best way to find them is not by exploring, but by stripmining an area. Simply liking exploration or not doesn't hold much weight when it comes to dungeons.
As for "Dungeons and Temples have them"...this is stating how things are. It gives no reason to agree or disagree in and of itself.
The bit about horse and pig saddles being different should be a separate question entirely.
Also, the bit about plugins should be in the poll...and you may notice that Other is currently leading up next to "It's called MineCRAFT" in the disagree options. You really need more options if other ever comes up front.
Personally, I don't care about whether the horse/pig saddles are the same. I don't think very many do. I do want craftable saddles because I feel that putting them in dungeons does nothing to make them hard to get (I've usually got more dungeons than I know what to do with anyways)...except it makes players arriving in an already-explored area at a potentially severe disadvantage. Something that's an item product (not a raw resource) being easy for the first few on a server, ridiculously easy in singleplayer, and harder when you visit a builtup area should just plain be craftable. It's not like dungeon loot will excite me more because it has saddles (diamonds:exciting. diamond horse armor:somewhat exciting. anything else:ehh, free stuff). I already get more saddles than I need from a single dungeon/temple/nether fortress and nether fortresses especially are pretty easy to find.
What it boils down to is two things:dungeons having mundane horse supplies in them is stupid (I would expect this from a PARODY of video game treasure, not an actual game's treasure. It's like opening a final boss chest in Zelda to find a new hat that doesn't even have any magical properties) and doesn't actually make dungeon loot good or horses "late game", and if something's so easy to get anyways, why isn't it craftable?
This was the result of two good (well, making horses a late game thing is more like "whatever". It's not a great idea but it's not terrible) ideas that were put together illogically. It will hopefully be fixed by 1.7.
I think that you should be able to craft something so trivial, I mean come on, its just a saddle it not that valuable, horse armor in dungeons is ok though since they are actually kind of expensive (made of diamonds/gold/iron).
Something that annoys me is that people have ridiculous ideas on what makes a game "easy" or "hard". Do you really think having to explore an extra hour to find some saddles makes the game more difficult, and therefore fulfilling? I can practically do this on hardcore mode with a blindfold on. Most gameplay decisions by Jeb et al. regarding making the game "challenging" really just make it more tedious. Some examples include:
1. Pointlessly increasing the growth time of crops (can be overcome by standing in a well-lit area and tabbing out of the game -> tedious, not hard)
2. Making it impossible to farm certain dyes like black (can be overcome by standing next to an ocean and smacking octopuses -> tedious, not hard)
3. Removing launcher pistons when adding pistons, making elevators much more difficult to create (can be overcome by walking on stairs or doing even more insane glitchier things like the minecart teleport -> tedious, not hard)
4. Removing the crafting recipe for saddles even though the Minecraft guy can make jukeboxes and diamond swords practically with his bare hands (can be overcome by spawning a million villagers -> tedious, not hard)
5. Enchantments are random except for level (can be overcome by making a skeleton farm and enchanting a million books or just repeatedly enchanting things and mixing them in the anvil -> tedious, not hard)
6. Animals can die forever but they don't automatically breed (can be overcome by manually breeding them, usually by experiencing "difficulty" #1 -> tedious, not hard)
Practically every "difficult" thing about this game is only "difficult" because it's an utter waste of time. Is this the kind of challenge you guys like? Having to monotonously perform the same action over and over? In that case knitting is harder than this game. At least if you could craft saddles, the game would be more enjoyable than knitting. Here are some games that are actually difficult, and not for lame reasons:
1. Rainbow Six
2. Hotline Miami
3. Quake 3
4. Ikaruga
5. Civilization series
When you hear these names, do you think of smacking identical walls for 30 minutes with a diamond pickaxe? Of course you don't, you think of tension and alertness, fast reflexes and carefully timed movements, or you think of skill or strategy. None of these things are required in Minecraft, just patience. Well sorry, if I wanted to be patient to acquire electronic assets I'd play a game with better netcode like an MMO or something. If I'm not mistaken, the game is supposed to be about mining and crafting, and no, running endlessly over a slowly generating landscape is not mining or crafting.
If Mojang wanted to make the game difficult, here are some ideas of what they could do that make the game legitimately difficult rather than just annoying. One, they could reinstate the possibility of monsters waking you up when you sleep. Being able to sleep in the game basically removes any threat in the overworld as long as you're paying the slightest attention to what's going on around you. Two, they could actually work on the AI more than just making them smart enough to avoid jumping to their death or running into walls. The AI is still pretty much brainless and easily herded to its death. Three, they could make enchantments more expensive but not random.
It's not hard.

"When we release a pure bugfix update, people get VERY upset ("NOTHING CHANGED!").. Adding features gives us much happier users. But I do realize that it's only happier users in the short term." - Notch
I'm still on the "saddles should be craft-able" side. You know, sometimes I just want to spend some time at home, chilling in my 2x2 infinite pool, playing one of the many records I somehow found, and just crafting a tonne of things I might want for the future. I would rather be able to craft saddles than have to explore for them. They should still be found as loot (albeit much more rarely).
I just personally believe exploring for materials is better than exploring for the actual item for many reasons:
It can lead to more exploration than simply finding the actual item, as the materials may have to be found in many different places.
I may already have the materials, which is good if I just want to get straight into crafting. It also gives a sense of reward for gathering those materials previously, as they actually ended up being of use.
It overall feels more satisfying going on a hunt for materials, doing the tasks required to gather them, return home and complete the final step of crafting it. Instead of going into dungeons for something that really doesn't seem like something you'd fight for in a dungeon.
As long as saddles require stuff like rope (leads), wood, leather and iron to craft, then they are good enough for me.
You know, sometimes I just want to spend some time at home, chilling in my 2x2 infinite pool, playing one of the many records I somehow found.
If you have found many records, you would have found many saddles along with them.

XP Guide Regardless of what change you do, no matter how small, someone will complain. - Jens Bergensten If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my post in your reply.
I agree they shouldn't be craftable, but if they did i wouldn't complain. What i don't get is why there so common in chests now i found 2 villages and 3 temples. I got 3 saddles and 2 diamond horse armor and one gold one. All this in about 15 mins from starting the world. I agree with NebulonB_Frigate_FTW the game is more tedious than hard. Even with witches spawning now. What i would love to start seeing in chests, enchanted books, maybe potions, enchanted weapons, hell even items with lore. Saddles, and horse armor are cool, but i adventure out because i like to explore the terrain, not cause I'm looking for a saddle although i keep finding them anyways. I really don't care about temples and dungeons. There easy to be in and out so i guess adding only horse stuff makes since. But i would love one enchanted book, weapon, or armor aleast once. So what I'm trying to say is Saddles are easy to find, and that i would like more reasons to explore temples and dungeons than just horse stuff.
I'm still on the "I really don't care" side. To me, saddles are like diamonds. They're rare and some people will complain about finding them rarely even though I have excess that I'll never need to use. If Mojang made saddles craftable, it wouldn't affect me one bit. The average player only needs one or two saddles.
