Yeah! Mounted combat can so not improve combat, and the combat is totally perfect!
Honestly, I haven't seen anyone actually use the pigs. Oh, and I never realized horses were the only over-rused mob in video games. *cough* zombies *cough* skeletons *cough* dragons *cough* giant spiders *cough*
Just gonna remove possibilities and won't improve the game at all by taking this kind of action.
SAY NO TO PIGS. MAGE NEED HORSE FOR ROLE PLAYING YOUTUBE SEIRES. ME JUST NEED BUGS GONE. ME LIKE NOT HAVING TO WORRY IF MOD COMPATIBLE OR NOT.
END OF DISCUSION OR YOU SHALL DIE THE HARD WAY (the hard way = the emocon way!!!! )
I am absolutely all for adding horses, but I don't feel that the Mo' Creatures horses fit into vanilla Minecraft. It's a great mod, but... Well, it's a mod. The horses just don't feel like vanilla mobs. Oh well, I guess I'll get used to it.
Yeah, horses are too normal. And making torches with coal? Is that really THAT quirky? Let's craft
them with iron and bread! I mean, it's logical! Iron can be formed into sticks! Bread is flammable!
And seriously, Mojang? Do the trees REALLY have to be made of wood? Is that REALLY the most
quirky and original thing you can think of?
And how does that make the game go "downhill" when it isn't making it any worse?
If you add a bad feature then you're adding a bad feature, is it that hard to understand? Who in their right mind thinks "JUST IGNORE IT GUYS" is anywhere close to a decent excuse? If they spent months adding a new dimension dedicated to ponies or some other inane shit, but ohdon't worry you don't have to make the portal if you don't want to xD then any sane individual would immediately take to the forums or twitter or just stop playing the game entirely, because the integrity and quality of the game is being compromised. (in this case about the horses we're talking about quality more so) And that's not strawmanning, unlike LexusKnox on the first page, or anyone else saying things like "Maybe since trees aren't original we should remove them" or whatever. The OP's argument, at least how he presented it, suggests that we shouldn't implement something that makes another thing already in the game redundant, either in function or aesthetics. And while I don't agree with his perspective entirely in this case, (I do agree with the reason for why he's saying it) all of these comments that don't even address the original issue need to stop.

Dude, youre an idiot. It's not bad if youre ignoring it. And who in the hell would stop playing Minecraft over a horse?
I used to be opposed to horses, but now I'm sort of on the fence about them. On one hand, they open up possibilities for adventure map maps and mounted combat and the like. On the other hand, I feel Pigs could have just been updated with new gear that gives them all of the stuff horses can do. They make pigs completely and utterly worthless, since all the other mobs give more drops than them and now horses are better for riding. Right now I'm meh.
On the other other hand, I recall hearing many times over that horses were the originally planned rideable mount, and then saddled pigs with carrot-on-a-stick came in and just took the place of it.
The fact remains that we would do better to WAIT AND SEE before we try and say pigs are ruined by horses. One, pigs still drop food and are still found - in my experience - more often than cows...making them a better choice to start getting meat-based sustenance. Whereas a horse is mainly going to be a rideable mount, and not much else...
Plus, the horse is oriented for combat and long-distance travel, from what I'm reading.
Also, the pigs practically ruin themselves. The carrot on a stick system is annoying for previously posted reasons - wears out, have to craft another, pig doesn't notice right away...And it doesn't jump that I've noticed, though I may be missing that in not messing with it often. That's not mentioning how much faster it is just to sprint and hold down whatever your jump button is...or just to travel by water if applicable, with the same added bonus of no hunger loss.
Or to build a minecart track and again, not lose hunger.
Hm I'm beginning to wonder if there was any decent reason to make pigs rideable in the first place, other than a funny picture of a big bulky warrior hunkered over on his pig?
I honestly don't oppose the idea of horses anymore, i more oppose their general feel and how they don't fit with the game, such as all of dr Zark's horrendously unfitting Mo'creature's mod. Once you add 40 kinds of horse, elephants, fish, snakes, ostriches, ect. the game gets too cluttered. Likewise, i think the horses should be much rarer than they actually are, and with a lot less variety than they come in now. I do like the distinction between asses and horses, as that makes an interesting tradeoff between speed and hauling ability, but it really seems silly that there are different kind of horse with better jumping, speed, and health when every other mob is uniform. It really just doesn't fit.

I actually sort of like the randomized horse stats. I'm generally a fan of randomly-generated
things of all kinds. It's fun to be able to say "well my horse has 17 hearts of health!". I never
did like the uniformity of mobs. Variety is the spice of life.
Just add a balance to the horses and the pigs. Something that makes you want to keep both for at times of need.
Yes. But what is the should be the new purpose of pigs? Not that I agree with the OP. Let's see...pigs could...I don't know, but they can be repurposed.

Anyone who says pigs aren't useless is out of their mind. Their only advantage is that they are physically smaller than cows, and that is not usually a problem.
Horses on the other hand, specifically in the way that they have been implemented, would be horrible.
People are going to be all "oh but dey ain't fully implemented yet".
Well, Mojang won't completely revamp the system, only change/improve/worsen it. I'm personally not happy with the way horses work in the game currently, but at least they do not take anything away from the current experience.

Actually, if you say pigs are useless, then you are wrong. They have two uses: as a meat source and as a mount.
The correct term is redundant. Because cows can provide meat and as well as leather and milk. As well as horses being a better mount. Not only that but pig saddles are only found in dungeons and even if you do, it is still trouble riding them as you need a carrot on a stick.
Yes, they are not useless. Just redundant. What they need is a new use.

I dont know... Be able to carry a wagon where you can place a furnace, a chest, a crafting table or other utility blocks? Or maybe strap TNT under their saddles (suggested as a different topic)? Or both.
Whoa. Way too much Teutonic crusader here.
But yeah, this oughta make PvP a bit more fun, since you can attack while on horseback. I think.
In a generic RPG, the first enemy you fight is "green slime lv. 1"

A problem doesn't go away if you ignore it. Take a moment and reread my post and you'll see I don't agree with OP's stance on horses.

Pigs will never go out of style! They will also stay just as unique as before.
