The MSKL (Minecraft Scientific Knowledge Library) is now open for business. The purpose of this is mainly for fun, here we put down our "scientific" explanations for why things are the way they are in Minecraft, and organize that "knowledge" into different "sciences" such as biology, ecology, archaeology and so on and so forth. Everything is going to be in spoilers, so you can choose to go where you want.
Note: It seems people don't get how this works. This isn't a mythology, this world (at least from the view of this thread) follows a specific, (sort of) logical, set of rules, and a mythology explains things through heroes, gods, and demons. Secondly, we aren't explaining this from a stand point of the real world. We are posing these questions as if we were Minecraftians and Minecraft wasn't a video game, but the real world. Post your theories so that they include only stuff you can observe in game without mods or texture packs or maps. Thank you.
Now, the first thing you must know, is that this does not include mods or commands, it is all straight vanilla without creative mode (although most likely we won't be explaining how we know all this stuff [awesome points to anyone who does! ] so come up with stuff as you like.) A good rule to establish is that due to the fact that no one can dig through bedrock, Minecraftians do not know the connection between the Nether, Overworld, and End, other than the portals. Other good rule of thumb: Mobs cannot play a LARGE historical impact in a place that there has never been any way to legitimately get them there in survival. (meaning, the basic overworld mobs can go to the nether and vise-versa [with the exception of wither skulls] because mobs used to be able to travel through nether portals [or can they still?]) another is this: The only science where Steve (the person) Herobrine and Notch are to be referenced is in Archaeology or as contributing scientists. Got it? good. Also: Endermen evolved on their own in the End, They evolved before everything else along with the Ender Dragon before making contact with the overworld. Try not to have timelines that invalidate lots of other people's work, because even though the "theories" CAN be proved wrong, doesn't necessarily mean they will.
"Basic Theory of Evolution" by pionoplayer Now, as far back as our bio-evolutionical-geomancery-spectro-ologyscope can see back, the first organisms in the Overworld were endermen. We have no idea what evolved first or how, but the first mob was the pig. Now by the process of faulty skin, AI, and model creation at birth known as- genetic mutation- some of these evolved into the first cows, and some others into the first sheep. No one knows why the other quadrupeds did not survive (such as the chickensnakentiger) and why they did, but it seems that these three were the only ones the evolved with the instinctual knowledge of how to eat grass. An almost unlimited source of food for those that can eat it. The first carnivores evolved from those of these mobs that realized: "If I eat my neighbor, maybe I'll get the good stuff he's been eating" and thus wolves evolved from sheep, and ocelots evolved from cows. The knowledge comes from the skin, wolves and sheep share the same furry texture, while cows and ocelots both have spots, the only mobs to do so. Now, through a drastic mutation, that was rather abrupt, squids evolved from pigs, and then some of the smaller squids lost their tentacles and turned transparent and became fish. Chickens evolved from sheep, and bats evolved form chickens. Eventually, two groups of squids got tired of soggy bread, and tried to evolve. One group was successful and evolved into spiders. The others weren't a created a large mass of dead squid that just sat there until it became slimes, but I will cover that in my next theory. Mooshrooms are not actually their own species, but actually just cows covered in mycelium, grown from long time living in mushroom biomes. We now have covered almost all of the natural mobs. "Advanced Theory of Evolution" by pionoplayer Many mobs did not evolve the natural way. A good way to demonstrate is slimes. The massive dead squid mass talked about in my Basic Theory of Evolution was struck by the same lightning storm as the creeper-pigs. It made a massive gelatinous mass that died under the lightning, splitting into many smaller ones. All others I will mention evolved because of the first dominant race. The testificates. The testificate spread far and wide, but a dark wizard shattered their empire, scattering them into their current scarce villages. Before he died, he tinkered with genetic engineering, and mutated an unfortunate spider into the first silverfish. Zombies evolved into skeletons, as well as the first Steves. Steves were not originally sentient, they used to be viscous hunters (the reason why hostile mobs are hostile, and endermen fear us) but eventually developed civilization. "The Evolution of the Creeper" by Kyte314
The creeper is one of the most famous and mischievous mobs in Minecraftia. It's believed evolutionary path is as follows:
Creepers evolved from pigs who, much like mooshrooms, became covered in mycelium and mushrooms after living in mushroom biomes for awhile. Unlike the mooshrooms though, the pigs responded negatively to the plant life, and their immune systems started to fight it. This was unsuccessful in all cases, and in response the plants (especially the mushrooms) started to harm the pigs in a parasitic fashion. Somehow, this attack affected the pigs' chromosomes and resulted in a genetic mutation, the creeper. Pigs have since been hardwired to avoid mushroom biomes, which is why we don't see them there or creatures called "oinkshrooms" (this is of course also due to the above reasons; they would turn into creepers). We do not, however, know where creepers got their explosive element (and why, for that matter) or how they reproduce (pigs don't go to mushroom biomes anymore and no one has ever seen a baby creeper).
"The Evolution of the Zombie Pigman" by Kyte314
The zombie pigman is currently a species of the Nether, but it didn't used to be:
When pigs are struck by lighting in the overworld, they turn into zombie pigmen. It only makes sense that this is how zombie pigmen came to be in the first place: a pig or a group of pigs were struck by lightning, altered into zombies forms of themselves, and somehow got into the Nether. I don't have a clue about how they went about doing this (getting into the Nether), but I do think that the original zombie pigmen ventured underground and somehow feasted on gold (or I guess "budder" makes a little more sense in this context), and after awhile became so used to it that they even made swords out of the mineral. Once they got into the Nether, they figured out how to mine deposits of gold hidden in the Netherrack that we cannot see (and, of course, became resistant to fire). This is why zombie pigmen drop golden nuggets when killed (their lunch) and carry golden swords. Now, you may be thinking that the pigmen would have to be sentient to do all of this, but they don't appear sentient to us. I think that this is either because they are tricking us into thinking they are not sentient (an attempt to avoid conflict) or they are simply just shy in our presence. Meanwhile, the pigmen must be the ones building the Nether fortresses we have come across, as they are definitely the most sentient out of the Nether creatures. To do so, the pigmen mine Netherrack, but this time instead of finding gold, they smelt the rock to create Nether bricks, much like we can do as of 1.5. They must have some mutual agreement with the blazes that spawn in these fortresses, but all the other creatures that appear there must have just stumbled across the building. Their purpose is unknown, but a good assumption is that they are simply places to live.
“Biology of Grass” by pionoplayer Grass is known to be a type of green bacterial growth, dominant in almost all biomes, that spreads very rapidly, and is food to all four of the passive land dwellers, as well as of starving creepers. Nutrition: It gets all of its nutrition from light, and the dirt it grows on, so only certain species, that still have the complex organs required to digest it, can gain any nutritional value from it. Competition: Grass kills of all other plants that attempt to take nutrition from the soil, with the exception of trees, which are the only plants known to be able to more effectively gain nutrition from light. Other plants, such as bushes and ferns, parasitically attach themselves to the grass and feed off of it. Grass’s only real competitor (due to the fact that trees rely on creeper explosions and forest fire to spread their saplings) is mycelium. “Biology of Mycelium” by pionoplayer Mycelium is a close relation to grass (also a bacteria), but absorbs less energy from light, and more from dirt, allowing it to easily outgrow Grass. It is brown in color, and mushrooms grow quite easily on it. Nutrition: Mycelium feeds mostly on dirt (hence the brown color), and so only other things that feed mainly on dirt (eg. mushrooms) can survive on it. If Mycelium gets a stranglehold on a grass-based ecosystem, everything (except the cows and hostile monsters) die off. Competition: Mycelium’s feeding patterns allow it great dominance, and it easily overruns grass, it keeps forests from expanding, but cannot kill off existing trees. Once it takes root in an area, Mycelium is exceedingly difficult to remove. Mutualism: Mycelium will spread to cow fur, allowing the mooshroom to eat mushrooms as they used to eat grass, and causing mushrooms to grow on said cow’s skin. “Biology of mushrooms” by pionoplayer Mushrooms are much similar to mycelium. They require no light, and in fact, due to a very photo-sensitive outer coating, cannot survive in brightly lit areas, but they can still survive under trees. They are used in underground farming, because they can grow on dirt or stone, and require no water. Nutrition: Mushrooms receive their nutrition from dirt and stone absorbing special nutrients unusually healthful to Steves if both types are present in a mush form. Each takes a different type Competition: None to speak of, mushrooms coexist with all known species. Will grow on cows covered in Mycelium. “Biology of Flowers” by pionoplayer Flowers are colorful, but parasitic, growths on grass. They cannot make nutrients of their own, but must take it from grass growing in an area. due to the fact that they don’t use the same nutrients as Mycelium, if Mycelium moves in, the flowers will almost certainly die out. Varieties: There are roses and dandelions. Both produce special types of oil, that when the flower is mashed, will stain wool a specific color. The two oils are combinable with each other, and both are mixable with different other oils, or “dyes”, to make a variety of fifteen different colors (sixteen counting bonemeal). They are not edible by any known species. "Biology of Trees" by pionoplayer Trees are most closely related to flowers, despite the great difference between the two. Trees gather nutrients from light in their leaves (or the all of themselves while still saplings) and are a common sight in the world of Minecraft. Drops: Wood is the body of the tree, it is a hard substance, very compact, but in that density lies it's weakness, if you set a log down carefully, then hit it dead center with your fist, it will instantly explode into four times it's original size and drop in a rectangular crystal pattern as planks. The leaves are very fragile, but versatile. If you break them, they will try to form together to become a sapling, but the process is not always successful, resulting in either no drops, or a mutation (apples). Trees cannot drop things on their own, and require forest fires or creeper explosions to reproduce. Growth: Trees grow very oddly, they convert light into matter, much as other plants, and then once they are dense enough, explode out into a full tree in a process called: "blooming". Contrary to the belief of some, only creepers are capable of receiving nutrition from any part of the tree.
"Rendering Distances" by Kyte324 The Steve eye is very different from the Human eye. Rather than having every normal eye be able to see about the same distance, the eyes of Steves can change how far they are able to see. How far this distance is is called the Steve's render distance, and can be classified into four groups: tiny, short, normal, and far. It is thought that Steves have this ability because they evovled so quickly that two traits, render distance and reaction time, were left behind while more important and revolutionary traits like intelligence developed rapidly. Once these more impotant traits slowed down their advancement, these two traits were still very basic and took away from the impotant traits. Since it would take such a long time to catch these traits up, having to slowly make it so that one upgraded trait does not decrease the abilites of the other by using too much of what can be best descibed as "brain power" by only increasing the abilities of that trait in small amounts at a time, Steves just adapted their eyes to be able to change their render distance to evenly spread their "brain power" between said render distance and reaction time. What I am saying by stating this is that when render distance is increased, reaction time is decreased, and vice versa. Steves were ment to do this until the two evened out, and they had both great render distance and great reaction time. This has only occured in the Steves with the greatest "brain power" available for use of these two traits, and there are not that many of these Steves. It has improved within the regular population, though: tiny used to be the normal render distance that steves used (because it was balanced the best with reaction time), but now the normal render distance is either short or (as shocking as it sounds) normal, due to the fact that Steves' "brain powers" have improved as far these two traits are concerned. I will not go into detail about how Steves' eyes are able to do this in this theory, but maybe in a later one.
"On the Positions of the Sun and the Moon" by minecraftnoob37
It has been seen that the positions of the sun and moon mirror each other at a 180º angle. This makes little sense, as the sun fits fine, although the moon cannot be in the opposite position for a sufficient time period. If it orbited the Minecraft planet, then eventually it would catch up with the sun. If it were a separate planet outside the orbital view of the Minecraft world, then it would fall behind and be unable to be seen. This leaves two competing theories.
• The moon orbits very close to the planet, and some unseen force pushes on it and prevents it from moving. Perhaps this is the influence of another gravitational field?
• The moon is a separate planet with a secondary force acting on it, that prevents it from falling behind, yet also prevents it from accelerating into an elliptical orbit.
The nature of the moon is uncertain, and will remain open for debate.
None- yet.
"Withers" by: snipe7r
These are arcane beings of terrible power, locked into a separate, inaccessible dimension. A "spawn configuration" was recently discovered, allowing players to unleash single withers by harnessing energy from wither skeleton skulls and soul sand to unlock the dimension for a split second, enough for a single wither to exit. Only powerful players have attempted this for the valuable "nether star" withers condense into on death.
"The Study of the World of Minecraft on a Microscopic Scale" by Ecthelion II
Well, we all know the world of Minecraft is pixelated and made of cubes, most of which are divided into 163 sub-cubes - pixels. Each sub-cube is its own entity, "particle" if you will, made up of many subatomic zero-dimensional bits. There are 2553 different variations of these bits, each of which accounts for one of the possible colors. Each bit variation has a unique signature, and will only bind with other bits of its exact kind. This binding process occurs through each bit's extremely weak magnetic force. This magnetic force is constrained to a three dimensional, cubical grid, giving the sub-cubes and cubes their cubical shape. The bits' magnetic force, however, is only strong enough to bind together a certain amount of bits, and so each sub-cube is the same size. Likewise, the same goes for sub-cubes - their magnetic force is only able to hold 163 sub-cubes together, giving the cubes their sizes.
Once these sub-cubes bind together to form cubes, the sub-cubes are eternally bonded and no known process can separate them. Also, very important to the Minecraft universe, is the fact that once bonded, the sub-cubes in a cube are unable to bond to anything else. Each cube has its own magnetic force too, causing the blocks to stay in place when put down - even if it is on the side of a wall or suspended in midair. This makes it so that the only way of retrieving a block after placing it is forcefully tearing it from the block it was bonded with.
However, there are another type of bits - bio-bits. Even though they are not actually alive, they are what makes up every creature. They act very similar to regular bits but their sub-cubes do not always bond into perfect cubes, nor do they bond with cubes formed of regular bits. Other than that, they are virtually exactly alike regular bits. The likely reason that they formed is that when animal life formed, it had no way to move, and thus had no way to eat or drink and would eventually die. Bio-bits also form nonliving objects - sand and gravel, the only blocks affected by gravity. And there is life made of normal bits - trees, grass, and plants.
"The Evolution and Advancement of the Testificate" by Epicness1324 The testificate is the second known sentient species in the vast land of Minecraftia. The first being steves. Although they do not possess nearly as much intelligence as steves, they are quite intelligent.
Several thousands of years ago (circa 4050 BCE), sheep lived in the high regions of Minecraftia. As their population grew, they began to move towards lower, flatter regions. Eventually, sheep lived in almost every area of Minecraftia. However, as they moved into hotter, less forgiving places like deserts, they had to adapt.
Circa 2000 BCE, the sheep that migrated to desert regions had, through the process of natural suggestion, the sheep had become advanced forms of sheep adapted to live in the harsh, desert climates. These creatures had 65% less wool than a sheep living in a mountainous zone, they were taller, and had larger noses, which were used for diverting excess heat away from the sheep's vital organs.
About 2050 years later (Circa 50 CE), the creatures were looking much closer to the modern testificate. They walked primarily on two legs, they had thicker skulls, very little body hair, and standing erect, were slightly less than two meters tall. They had begun to make more advanced structures that were larger and more stable.
1000 years later (1050 CE), the modern testificate was emerging. Their skulls were thinning as their brains enlarged, they could stand fully erect, and were two meters tall. They had developed their own religion. Very little is known about this religion other than the fact that faithful testificates have to have their arms folded in their clothing at all times.
Around 1180 CE, testificates began moving North into colder climates. They began to colonize the great plains that make up much of Minecraftia. They had built small villages made of new, stronger materials such as cobblestone and wood. They had also begun mining the ores. Their mineshafts were large and expansive.
At some point around 1335 CE, war was started by an obscure wizard. Plague was also spreading throughout the testificate population, killing the victims quickly. The miners were the first to fall, leaving their mines abandoned. To escape the plague and war, three large underground strongholds were built. They were positioned in a triangular shape.
Circa 1360 CE, a strange meteor fell from space. It was discovered by the brave testificates who dared to venture to the surface. This meteor was made of a strange, porous white stone. The testificates, believing it was a sign from their gods, created a structure using the strange stone, Three of the structures were created, one for each stronghold. Somehow, they had developed portal technology. endermen began escaping through the portals, entering Minecraftia. The testificates quickly destroyed the portals, fearing the powerful endermen. Unfortunately, enough endermen were in Minecraftia to decimate the testificates living in the strongholds.
Circa 1450 CE, the strongholds were abandoned. The testificate villages were much more prominent throughout Minecraftia. Around this time, steves were first emerging. With them, they brought new diseases. The testificates had a natural immunity to most of them. One particular disease, however, was devastating to them. This disease was zombification. Zombification was spread among the steves, reanimating the dead. The reanimated dead (zombies) infected the living by physical contact. The zombies had a hunger for steve flesh. When the testificates encountered these zombies, they fell victim to the infection. It spread in the same way it did with steves.
By 1900 CE, the testificate civilizations were mostly gone, leaving small villages dotting the plains and deserts. Once again, the testificates would face another disease. This disease was unique. It ate away at the brain's functions, leaving the victim alive, but mentally handicapped. The disease affected the entirety of the remaining civilization. They lost their ability to open doors, mine, build, or in extreme cases, mate. On the plus side, zombies were unable to infect the victims of the new disease. This disease would remain for another 112 years.
In 2012 CE, the disease started to die off, leaving the mentally incapacitated testificates in their small villages. The disease didn't go down without a fight, though. It made sterilized each and every one of the testificates. Fortunately, the effect was only temporary. The testificates began to regain their abilities. They started having children again, opening and closing doors, etc. The immunity to zombification was also temporary. The zombies began targeting the testificates again. The testificates had viewed the way that steves construct snow golems to defend them, and invented iron golems. They modeled the iron golems after themselves, giving them large noses and unibrows. Later, the testificates began trading their goods with the steves. This was the first recorded mutual interaction between steves and testificates in over 500 years. The testificates mainly used emeralds as currency. At the same time they began trading, their mating toned down as the population leveled out. Later, testificates began farming potatoes and carrots alongside wheat. For some reason, children were being born with a mutation. This mutation occured in about 1 in 550 children born. The mutation caused the children to have very pale skin and purple eyes. These children often grew up to be skilled in alchemy. Sadly, they used the powers to harm the other villagers. These "witches" were banished to the swamps.
"Portal Technology" by Epicness1324 It is not known who first invented portal technology, but it is widely accepted that the technology was developed a long time ago.
Nether portals:
Nether portals are the only known link between Minecraftia and the Nether. The portal is created by placing 10 obsidian blocks in a certain pattern. After the portal frame is built, it can be activated with fire. The Nether is 8 times smaller than Minecraftia, so if a portal is being used for the first time, a new one will be created at the nether equivalent of the original portal's coordinates. While the obsidian frame of the portal cannot be damaged by explosions, the actual portal itself is very susceptible to even small explosions.
End Portals:
These mysterious portals were created by testificates sometime around 1360 CE. There are only three known to exist, located in the ancient strongholds. They are made of some sort of endstone. It is believed that a meteor fell to Minecraftia. It is possible that the endstone that composed the meteor was changed upon entry into the atmosphere, causing it to be almost as hard as bedrock. The testificates managed to figure out a way to break and use the stone. With the endstone, they constructed the portals. Scientists have failed in recreating the portals. The portal frame is immune to explosions, but unlike nether portals, end portals are immune to explosions like their frames. End portals are activated by placing eyes of ender in the slots.

In reply to "Basic Theory of Evolution" and "Advanced Theory of Evolution":
Some of your theories on evolution seem legitimate to me, while others do not. First of all, in"Basic Theory of Evolution", you stated that"a bunch of pigs were all standing on a hill in a storm, the lightning all struck at once, those few that survived had become creepers." I think that it is more likely that creepers evolved from pigs who, much like mooshrooms, became covered in mycelium and mushrooms after living in mushroom biomes for awhile. This makes sense, as creepers have a leafy, plant like texture to their skin, and a mutation makes more sense than a lightning strike (as IRL the creeper was created when someone incorrectly modeled a pig). Pigs have since been hardwired to avoid mushroom biomes, which is why we don't see them there or creatures called "oinkshrooms" (this is of course also due to the above reasons). We do not, however, know where creepers got their explosive element (and why, for that matter) or how they reproduce (pigs don't go to mushroom biomes anymore and no one has ever seen a baby creeper). Also, it wouldn't make sense for pigs that were struck by lightning to turn into creepers as they should have turned into zombie pigmen, which brings me to my next point.
In "Advanced Theory of Evolution" you stated that "zombie pigmen...came from an unfortunate attempt at animal breeding in the first (unsuccessful) nether colony." This certainly makes sense, but one thing counteracts it: again, when pigs are struck by lighting in the overworld, they turn into zombie pigman. It only makes more sense that this is how zombie pigmen came to be in the first place. A pig or a group of pigs were struck by lightning, altered into zombies forms of themselves, and somehow got into the nether. I don't have a clue about how they went about doing this (getting into the nether), but I do think that the original zombie pigmen ventured underground and somehow feasted on gold (or I guess "budder" makes a little more sense in this context) and after awhile became so used to it that they even made swords out of the mineral. Once they got into the nether, they figured out how to mine deposits of gold hidden in the netherrack that we cannot see. To do so, the pigmen mine netherrack, but this time instead of finding gold they smelt the rock to create nether bricks, much like we can do as of 1.5. They must have some mutual agreement with the blazes that spawn in these fortresses, but all the other creatures that appear there must have just stumbled across the building. Their purpose is unknown, but a good assumption is that they are simply places to live.
Also in "Advanced Theory of Evolution" you said that "The testificates evolved from pigs." I believe that testificates actually evolved from the creature that was created when a pig crossed with a squid, rather than just from pigs. This is due to the testificates pig-like features (their skin color and texture), their squid-like features (their "squidward" nose and facial features), as well as the two animal's main feature combined (their overall derpiness). The wizard you spoke of makes sense, and I believe that his descendants became the witches we now see in swamps. What I don't agree with is your theory on the creation of the zombie. You said that this wizard "mutated an unfortunate creeper into the first zombie." I think that instead the wizard captured two testificates, one female whose name is unknown, the other a male whose name was Steve. He tried to mutate them both into zombies (the testificate form of zombie), but this failed, and instead they both turned into the "Steve" form we know today. Steve and the other victim escaped from the wizard and returned to their village, where they eventually got married and had children. One day, though, the wizard recaptured Steve's wife, and this time successfully turned her into a zombie (the regular form of zombie). He sent her to attack Steve and his children, but Steve stopped his zombified wife from killing their children, at the cost of his own life. Now a zombie, Steve traveled far away from his home village, his wife going in the opposite direction. Their children continued the new race of people, now called Steves in Steve's honor. Meanwhile, the zombies reproduced by infecting both testificates (creating the testificate form of zombie) and the new Steves (creating the regular or Steve form of zombie). This is why regular zombies share the same form and wear the same clothes as Steves, being created from them (rather than vice versa in your theory). I do agree with the "spiders to silverfish" and "zombies to skeletons" mutations, the "zombies to skeletons" one perhaps occurring when zombies lose their flesh and somehow pick up a bow. My above theory, however, conflicts with your statement that "Steves were not originally sentient, they used to be viscous hunters (the reason why hostile mobs are hostile, and endermen fear us)". I think that instead the hostile mobs are hostile because the main hostile mobs were created by the wizard with the intent to destroy the villagers, and since they are descendants of vilagers, Steves. This includes zombies, silverfish, and skeletons (since they evolved from zombies). Spiders are naturally predators, and the rest of the hostile mobs that weren't created by the wizard are hostile to Steves and such because of their own individual reasons that I won't go into.
This concludes my thoughts, and I hope to see more posts like these in the future.

But Underneath all the code that creates this incredible game, Some Imagine that somehow there is science involved.
But there is not.

Maybe the Sun and moon are locked in an orbit with each other (and therefore have the same mass) and have the Minecraft world in between them?
Okay, I removed my stuff on creepers and zombie pigmen, but the rest is rejected. Put the ideas on how those two evolved into the form of a theory, and then I'll put it up here.
Great job dude!
And we have a winner! Nice job "founding father of Far Sciences". And nice, I don't think very many people would have come up with such a good thing. Just watch out, it makes too much sense and too little creativity, you might want to rethink it or someone else will.
Okay bub, first of all, don't quote Cave Johnson here, his idea of science is Inventing combustible lemons and burning down someone's house down with them.
Second of all, this isn't science. it is quite visibly "Science" or, "Aperture Science" if you will (also known as making stuff up and pretending that you did experiments). so don't get all huffy with me, the theories make about as much sense as science in minecraft does.
High five Mr. Johnson!

But seriously ,what im trying to say is that Minecraft is a game, and the fact that there is some kind of science explanation in this game is Confusing. Wow, your real angry. I guess you cant take the Cave Johnson Jokes. (Who calls people Bub these days? I mostly call em Dickheads.)

Ever heard of role-playing? Because that's basically what this whole thing is. The goal here is to come up with interesting thoughts about why things happen in a world that wasn't necessarily created to follow scientific rules, using said scientific rules that apply in the real world. This thread DOES have a point; to entertain, intrigue, and further the abilities of the mind. Also, science can be discussed or used anywhere, and is not limited to the classroom or in labortories. The title of this thread is "Who Says Science Doesn't Apply?", but this isn't a poll, so we don't need you to elaborate on how you think that it does or doesn't. (I will give you points for the Cave Johnson reference, though. It made me laugh a little).

I usually have a neutral/undecided standpoint on things. And yes, I am part Swiss.
And we have a winner! Nice job "founding father of Far Sciences". And nice, I don't think very many people would have come up with such a good thing. Just watch out, it makes too much sense and too little creativity, you might want to rethink it or someone else will.
This is science, not creativity. Sure this is Minecraft, but a practical approach should be taken, otherwise it isn't actually science. It's just a fictitious creativity, which is fine sometimes, but other times you need to actually think.
Okay, I removed my stuff on creepers and zombie pigmen, but the rest is rejected. Put the ideas on how those two evolved into the form of a theory, and then I'll put it up here.
Great job dude!
What do you mean by "the rest is rejected"? I know the part about Steve and his wife is a bit of a stretch, but some of the other stuff I said seems perfectly acceptable, like my thoughts on the creation of the testificates, the relation of the wizard to the modern day witch, and the basic principle that instead of zombies evolving into Steves, Steves evolved into zombies. And if these ideas are going to be "rejected", does that mean that they cannot be brought up again at all, or does that just mean you're not going to put them on the main page as of now?
Aside from that, thanks for considering my ideas, I'll try to get those theories up when I can. Also, great job to you too, for making those original theories and, of course, this topic in the first place.

Good point. We really do need to keep in mind that if we stray too far away from realistic science, then we lose one of the main aspects of this topic. At the same time, though, we should still be creative in some ways and remember that Minecraft is a game and doesn't follow all of the rules that apply in the real world (but can still be talked about scientifically). This way we can gain intelligence while at the same time enjoy aspects of humor and fiction.

listen, if you had not noticed, this, also is for fun. It would be, as you have pointed out, very pointless to try to nail it down with good scientific theories. So there |P
this is a combination of the two, it can't be, "The answer is purple, because aliens don't wear hats" but it doesn't have to make sense by real world logic. However, because minecraft is so radically different from the real world, pretty much the best we can do is make up stuff and have a good time doing it.
rejected in that, as they are, they will not be accepted into the main page. If posted in "theory" form, they will still be put in your section of theories, but not into the main point. And thanks, you've been fairly helpful yourself.
Why? If Pigs already evolved into other creatures, why do they still exist?
Well, only a certain group (or perhaps only one individual) of pigs evolved into certain creatures, and therefore, since the new creatures or something like climate change did not majorly affect their population, the original pigs still exist. Plus, who doesn't like pigs? Even their successors would agree that their derpy faces are awesome.

] so come up with stuff as you like.)
A good rule to establish is that due to the fact that no one can dig through bedrock, Minecraftians do not know the connection between the Nether, Overworld, and End, other than the portals.
"Basic Theory of Evolution" by pionoplayer
Now, as far back as our bio-evolutionical-geomancery-spectro-ologyscope can see back, the first organisms in the Overworld were endermen.
"Advanced Theory of Evolution" by pionoplayer
Many mobs did not evolve the natural way.
“Biology of Grass” by pionoplayer
Grass is known to be a type of green bacterial growth, dominant in almost all biomes, that spreads very rapidly, and is food to all four of the passive land dwellers, as well as of starving creepers.
“Biology of Mycelium” by pionoplayer
Mycelium is a close relation to grass (also a bacteria), but absorbs less energy from light, and more from dirt, allowing it to easily outgrow Grass.
“Biology of mushrooms” by pionoplayer
Mushrooms are much similar to mycelium.
Each takes a different type
Competition: None to speak of, mushrooms coexist with all known species. Will grow on cows covered in Mycelium.
“Biology of Flowers” by pionoplayer
Flowers are colorful, but parasitic, growths on grass.
"Biology of Trees" by pionoplayer
Trees are most closely related to flowers, despite the great difference between the two.
"Rendering Distances" by Kyte324
The Steve eye is very different from the Human eye.
"The Evolution and Advancement of the Testificate" by Epicness1324
The testificate is the second known sentient species in the vast land of Minecraftia.
"Portal Technology" by Epicness1324
It is not known who first invented portal technology, but it is widely accepted that the technology was developed a long time ago.

PROUD USER OF THE STEVE SKIN
Some of your theories on evolution seem legitimate to me, while others do not. First of all, in "Basic Theory of Evolution", you stated that "a bunch of pigs were all standing on a hill in a storm, the lightning all struck at once, those few that survived had become creepers." I think that it is more likely that creepers evolved from pigs who, much like mooshrooms, became covered in mycelium and mushrooms after living in mushroom biomes for awhile.
Edit: Sorry this post is kinda big.

On the Positions of the Sun and Moon
• The moon orbits very close to the planet, and some unseen force pushes on it and prevents it from moving. Perhaps this is the influence of another gravitational field?
• The moon is a separate planet with a secondary force acting on it, that prevents it from falling behind, yet also prevents it from accelerating into an elliptical orbit.
The nature of the moon is uncertain, and will remain open for debate.
-Cave Johnson.
There is Although, my friend, No Science in minecraft.
It was simply a man Giving the world what they wanted, in the form of a game.
Minecraft.
But Underneath all the code that creates this incredible game, Some Imagine that somehow there is science involved.
But there is not.
Cave Johnson, We're done here.
Maybe the Sun and moon are locked in an orbit with each other (and therefore have the same mass) and have the Minecraft world in between them?
P.S. Thanks for contributing to this.

thanks dude, and welcome to the family.
Johnson!

Wow, your real angry. I guess you cant take the Cave Johnson Jokes. (Who calls people Bub these days? I mostly call em Dickheads.)
But seriously ,what im trying to say is that Minecraft is a game, and the fact that there is some kind of science explanation in this game is Confusing. Minecraft was created for enjoyment and Having fun. But, This post seems kinda pointless. It wont benefit anyone. I say science does not apply, Because its a game. your better off talking science in a Science test. Not a Forum for a computer game.
gg sir.

This is science, not creativity. Sure this is Minecraft, but a practical approach should be taken, otherwise it isn't actually science. It's just a fictitious creativity, which is fine sometimes, but other times you need to actually think.
