Hey guys, Derpy Potater here, and it has come to my attention, just how many cracked users there are... this REALLY ticks me off. Mojang works hard on this game and they only ask $30 for one of the greatest sandbox games ever! Yet, everyday, TONS of cracked users, too lazy to actually buy the game, pour on into cracked servers not giving a crap about illegally playing. I am a realist, I know I can't convince every-single-idiotic-spoiled cracked user to buy the game, but I know I might, just MIGHT be able to convince at least some, and then have those I have convinced to spread the message. A lot of cracked users when confronted with the statement, "Dude, just buy minecraft already, it's only $30!" their excuse would be, "I'm sorry man, I just really love this game, but I don't have enough money, my family's poor, are you happy now? You revealed my embarrassing secret, are you proud now *rages*??????" Well, I know for a fact, a lot of times, they say that just to shut up the questioner, and they in fact, have plenty enough money for the game. However if you really don't, and you really love the game so much, as to play it illegally everyday, then save up money! if you're a kid, mow lawns, do work along the lines of that, and do chores. If you're a teen, get a job at wal-mart, mcdonalds, Stop & Shop, places like that, I'm sure you can get enough money after just alittle work. If you're an adult, same as teen, job!!!!!!!! So you see.... even if you complain about not having enough money, getting enough isn't really that hard in most cases. So spread the word, "Don't play cracked minecraft!".
Yeah it is somewhat annoying, especially when they come to the forums asking for advice on their cracked client problems, but I don't think this is going to do anything really. The forum already discourages it.
I bought 2 copies of minecraft for me and my wife. I first tried minecraft through cracked server version. I can honestly say I would have never bought this game without pirating it first even though there's a demo version. for some reason I hate demos. Got tired of all the cheaters on cracked servers and wanted the full game so bought it. Some people can't afford even 30 dollars. Others are tired of buying crap items so they pirate. Others are just stingy. Overall I'm sure this game has pulled in more then its fair share. I personally feel were the ones getting shafted with the lack of development. It takes forever to get an update and when we do its not a whole lot. Like the money isn't being put back into the game like it could. So its not black and white right or wrong. Just do your part and let others be.
(Replying to bolded parts)
Too lazy to actually buy the game? There are a lot of reasons why you wouldn't buy off the bat. Maybe you want to know you're getting your money's worth - and don't say "play classic" because that's so outdated it's almost a different game by now. They can't buy those cards with gift codes on them because they're not sold in their country (like in mine), and their parents could just be afraid of technology/think Mojang is a scam for whatever reason.
Also, many cracked users do give a crap about illegally playing and given the chance, will buy the game. See my first point.
Idiotic? Spoiled? How can you say that? I wouldn't call them idiotic - in fact, they're quite the opposite, wanting to know that they'll be getting their money's worth before they buy the game. As for spoiled, if they were really spoiled their parents would buy everything they want, meaning no need for piracy.
Oh, you know they say it to shut up the questioner? Really? Please tell us how you found out this wonderful piece of info. I don't like people making assumptions of others.
There's no point in spreading the word - the people who don't care about playing cracked will continue to play it, and the people who do feel bad will eventually buy it, especially if they only played cracked to see what the game was like.
Thanks.
I understand your point of view, I'm not hating on you but my main message is that cracked minecraft I think is plain wrong, and if they DO demo the game, well mojang DOES infact have a minecraft demo!!!!! http://minecraft.net/
Right under the big orange Buy now button it says "Or play the demo"

The demo has less features than a cracked minecraft client. Not to mention, the demo was only added more recently.
It still won't stop people from pirating, and neither will this topic. It's a lost cause, and in my opinion just a waste of time. You can't possibly expect to change everyone's opinion.

Remeber how I mentioned I didn't expect to change everyone, but hoped to convince at least a few? But I understand what you mean about the demo, my friend who is waiting to buy an account tried the demo and said it wasn't as good.
Well, I can't sit around all day replying, I have things to tend to irl, so Ill be gone for a while, probably last time ill check posts today, if you disagree with my posts don't be afraid to express your opinion, but please know there is a difference between raging/trolling, and simply stating your opinion.

That's what I mean. And even if they play the demo, what difference is it making? They still aren't paying for the game if they're just playing the demo.
I payed for it and i'm proud of that, but if people don't wanna pay, i could care less, as Mojang could care less. Notch is part of the Swedish Pirate Party, you know.

I utterly disagree with your opinion.
Most "pirates" are people like me, who have to watch every nickel and dime, just to get by. We will download something, whatever it is, because we've heard great things, and the demo (like in this case) leaves much to be desired.
And when we can afford it, we can: like I just did, when I had the funds come available that didn't have to go towards "unneccesary luxuries" like food and medicines and gas (both varieties), not to mention electricity and Internet.
So, like millions of us poor "power users", and a few million more "average users", I downloaded a cracked version. And I got hooked, absolutely fell in love with the game. I have never tried to play on a cracked server, and wasn't really interested, I wanted to understand the game on my own, and draw my own conclusions.
And today, I had the wherewithal to buy it. And I did.
But the real problem here is your blanket accusation that "all users of cracked clients are crooks", which couldn't be further from the truth in a majority of cases, including mine, and including Lapis, who had a similar experience to mine. And I'm sure there at thousands more with similar stories.
But the fact remains: WE ARE NOT CROOKS!! We are not, in the truest sense of the word, "pirates", either--if I were, I would heave-to aside your house, lock us together with grappling hooks, and invade you, and kill you, and take your stuff and burn your s̶h̶i̶p̶ house down before sailing away in a cloud of cackles. And sell your dog into slavery.
I think that Mojang has seen the truth in the fact that he has issued this with no DRM: it allows any and all to play, regardless of their financial situation; and if they want to go legit, so they can play with legit friends, then they can. And if not, they haven't lost anything but time, and had a great experience with a great game, which would later influence someone else into buying said game. Which propagates into fantastic sales for a great title.
There's even a term for it: "PAY IT FORWARD". By buying the legit game, I'm "paying it forward" to the next user, who will benefit from the improvements in the game. I benefitted by Mojang's "pay it forward", due to his stance on DRM, and his decision to not sue every person who dares alter the code and modify or crack the program. I also benefitted from prior users to went from "pirate" to legit, just in the same way.
And now I have paid my share forward.
Your crass, classless, and needlessly universal accusation of "piracy" of a large portion of the user base does nothing but mollify yourself with your bloated posturing. You aren't helping Mojang's cause, nor the cause of those who feel copyright and "Intelectual property" have been sorely abused by power players using the system to cash out on those unfortunate enough to fall afoul of their idiotic attempts to "STOP STEAL MAH STUFFS!!" EVERY time someone throws down a gauntlet about the "wrongness of piracy, oogieboogieboogie!!", someone goes out to show how ridiculous it is to even try. And you certainly haven't "converted" anyone--if anything, you ticked them off, and sent them running to find yet another thing they can "pirate", just to say that they CAN.
Those that aren't worried about it, however, are the ones with the least stress and biggest bank accounts, simply because they don't have that problem in the first place. The only one with a real "problem" is you, and that's self-inflicted.
And you've made it "OUR" problem, thanks to you lumping us "honest pirates" into the same category as the real "pirates", who are (besides the DVD/CD/BluRay copiers in Mexico and China who rip copies of anything not nailed down) more interested in stealing a legit product with a large user base and making it look legit with all the printed BS that goes along with it. THOSE are the real pirates, and the ones you should be focusing your energies toward.
Unless you're a MAFIAA shill, just looking for easy targets for their extortion programs.
I mean, Notch himself said he was fine with people pirating the game.
He most certainly did not say that. He said, "Well - pirating will happen one way or another. Why bother?"
Anyways - I have to agree. Pirating is gonna happen. While I don't exactly agree, except to maybe test a game for a few days, there is nothing we can do about it. It may be aggravating, and even more aggravating when players come here begging for help about it, but regardless. Pirating is gonna happen.

Yo dawg, i herd u liek swag, so i put swag in your swag so you can- No. Stop.
If you can't afford a car, do you steal it and drive it around until you have enough money to buy the car?
This is actually a good point about what I just said. But the thing is, let's be realistic, while it may be the same concept, Minecraft is a game. A car is a car. Y'know, a car? xD
So, I don't think that's too great of an argument, but I see where you're coming from.
I'm Derpy Potater, and I approve this message.
Oh, :L
Well, I personally think that pirating is just plain wrong, plus, it's illegal.
From your pic of Notch's quote
"If you still like it when you can afford it in the future buy it then"
"Also don't forget to feel bad"

I did pirate the game, I loved it, two days later I buy it for PC and Xbox.
As long as you actually buy the game, I don't see the problem.

People discuss things on a forum.
No. Stop.
Last time I checked, indy games didn't cost 15-30 grand.
bad analogy is bad.
