Wrong, COD is over rated. Minecraft is loved. Although I doubt I will change your mind, Because opinions are near impossible to change. Minecraft is many games in one. So many different playstyles for different players, All with different goals in mind. There is no end, and with mods, the game is simply limitless. You never get bored because there is just so much to do, And explore. Gmod (Love it to death) Simply can not be compared to minecraft as a sandbox. Minecraft goes past Gmod in a multitude of ways. And when the day comes when a games beats minecraft. That game would have to be perfect in any way possible.

I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter. Fair exchange?

I think LittleBigPlanet is very close, when LittleBigPlanet 3 comes out it will have beaten Minecraft as far as creative mode. Minecraft will still be superior in survival.
But you cant build that freely in Gary's Mod. I know alot of creative stuff can be done in Garry's Mod but minecraft lets you build your world pixel by pixel (or voxel by voxel) another reason its so popular is you can easily play it for free
Minecraft in singleplayer isn't that challenging, but when you play factions, you have to constantly reinforce yourself. But that is not the point of my reply. Minecraft cannot be compared to many of the games it is being compared to. Terraria, Infiniminer, Little Big Planet, Gmod, and of course Minecraft share one big thing: They are all sandboxes, as in based on creating stuff and doing what you want with them, but that is where the similarities end. Terraria is more of an exploration game, Infiniminer is a team based building game, Little Big Planet is a creative game based on making maps, Gmod is a sandbox based on building contraptions, and Minecraft is a creative block based survival sandbox. All are amazing games (with the possible exception of Infiniminer, I never played it) but cannot be compared. Minecraft is something different, which is why it is overrated to you.

Not really. There's a lot of games that overcome Minecraft in a number of ways, you're just blowing Minecraft's own horn louder than the orchestra already has.

Because this game=fun and fun=good and good=bad and bad=everyone and everyone=life and life=minecraft.
You just called Minecraft bad. Noice.
Minecraft is somewhat overrated. It's a good game, just not worthy of the mountains of praise it's gotten. I mean, it's a pretty dynamic game, able to stretch to the wants of a lot of people, while still maintaining a central theme. It can be appealing to people who like to kill, create, survive, destroy, adventure, who are into technology (redstone), etc. It deserves praise for that, sure. But it's definitely not such a "pure master piece" as a lot of people make it out to be.
My personal opinion: Minecraft covers a lot of different things--building, adventuring, survival, combat, etc--but it only really does well in building. You can build practically anything, especially since we have redstone. The other aspects, however, suck. Adventuring gets old quickly due to the lack of variety, combat is extremely simple and none of the mobs are difficult, survival is so easy that it essentially isn't survival, etc. This is particularly egregious since those aspects are the embodiment of the antithesis of the ideals Minecraft strives for, and the things everyone complements it for being.
Thus, when people say "minecraft is great, you can do anything" I tend to laugh, because you can only build anything; still impressive, but nowhere near as good as what people say it is. I would agree if someone called it great for the building, and cry inside if someone praised the survival aspects.
Mods are a different story. Minecraft's mods are good, but they don't make Minecraft as a whole better since they aren't a part of vanilla. Mods might make Minecraft a good platform, but not a good game.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
Everyone is allowed an opinion and it shouldn't be taken too personally, especially dealing with a game. But overrated? The utterly huge community that this game has produced alone should show that there is something special about this game. I am 45, and have been playing video games since the 1970's, and I have never seen such devotion by such a large number of people for three years to a single title. YOU may not like the game, but you cannot say it is overrated.

But then again, part of the appeal of building is the effort required to gather materials. That eighty-foot golden cock and balls wouldn't be so satisfyingly turgid if it weren't for the entire continent you had to turn upside-down to find all the ore. And that's what sets it apart from other creativity toys like Garry's Mod. If you can just clap your hands and summon fifty explosive barrels to pile ragdolls around, then the spectacle is as fulfilling as eating your own snot. Minecraft is a responsible parent. It knows you'll swiftly get bored of your golden cock and balls if it just gives you one, so it pays you five dollars a week to wash its car so you can save up and gain an appreciation for value. And when you finally have your golden cock and balls, you'll love it all the more.

But it's not the only game that lets you do whatever you want! I'm mad at people because of saying "It lets you do anything!", because it doesn't. In the game you have a world with no physics, which limits the possibilities. I also hate when people say "U gotta be smart to play tis game", because that's not the case.
Minecraft is simple. It has physics; they're just not physics you recognize as physics. Monster spawning in darkness? Biology-based physics. Only certain blocks falling? Chemistry/molecular-based physics. Redstone? Electromagnetic-based Physics.
These physics are simplified in order to improve gameplay by making everything more intuitive. And because the physics are not as realistic as other creativity toys, it increases the possible amount of outcomes you can produce.
You don't have to be smart to play with the toy known as Minecraft, you just have to know how to make your own fun. Minecraft is dependent on imagination: the more imagination, the more fun you have. And while that's true of other sandbox games/creativity toys, Minecraft's simple physics makes channeling that imagination possible for anyone, even if they don't understand realistic physics.
That's what I think, anyways. I'm not sure if it's entirely true.

Let's do some math.
1/3 = 0.333...
1/3 * 3 = 1
0.333... * 3 = 0.999...
1 = 0.999...
1 - 0.999... = 0.999... - 0.999...
0.0...1 = 0
0.0...1 * 10... = 0 * 10...
1 = 0

I would play other games, but with 17 hours a day into minecraft, it would hard to find time to sleep.
Minecraft, not everybody does it, but everybody should!
I don't often play other games than minecraft, but when I do, I play minecraft.
Why ask why? Drink bud dry!
As walt whitman sang in the song of minecraft, "It is large, Minecraft contains multitudes".
Ahem...
As I say, minecraft is the best 10 games I ever played. It contains multitudes. It is many games so people love it in many ways.
It's just a game. If you don't like it- play something else.
Indeed.
Let's do some math.
1/3 = 0.333...
1/3 * 3 = 1
0.333... * 3 = 0.999...
1 = 0.999...
1 - 0.999... = 0.999... - 0.999...
0.0...1 = 0
0.0...1 * 10... = 0 * 10...
1 = 0
