Beta 1.3? Agree. But for me it was great because it allowed me having more than 5 worlds.
I see a lot of people with like a dozen worlds. I never make more than one or two. I've only had 3 at one time. I have no idea how anyone can do it, but I give them props.
I feel sorry for all of you. While I am playing it [with current world gen] and enjoying it so much, you all are wrenching your souls in agony.
Hey, hey, hey! I just hate the jungles. I love swamps and am just plain tired of Taiga. I wish there was something a little more in snowy biomes and I believe that plains are a fantastic opportunity for some new kinds of flowers/dyes.

I don't. Did you notive "Minecraft 1.4.6" version string on both my screenshots?
Interesting note however: No one who defends the current terrain can explain what is so good in it. In this thread it's like "Yes, it doesn't have this, it doesn't have that, it doesn't look so pretty, but it's still good."

Old survival world, new survival world, few SMP worlds I played before, redstone experiments world, many testing worlds (As I'm mod developer, I need to test the mods. :)), A unique Infdev world with corrupted seed (So I can't save the seed, but I don't want to lose that world, it's too cool.) etc.

I will take that challenge with a single word: Diversity. There's more to see, so exploration got a nice update.

Wrong. I will post few screenshots soon so you can see it yourself.
Some note though: I agree that Classic, Indev, early and middle Infdev were less varied that the current terrain. Alpha was slightly more varied, since now the number of possibilities == number of biomes, and noise generator can produce much more different landscapes.
And Beta generator has both biomes and good noise generation.
The current generator has biomes and so much restricted noise generation that it's barely random.

Honestly, I'd like alittle more randomness in the terrain.
When you come across one excreme hills biome ou've prettymuch seen 87% of extreme hills biomes.
Sure sure, You occasionally get that gem of a world where everything's perfect for whatever you're building but normally you'll come across an uninteresting world with a landscape you've seen a hundred times before.
That's just landscaping though, I don't feel like covering how the current system of passive mob spawning forces you to play Farmville 3D in order to play the game to its fullest extent... I miss being able to go outside whenever and murdering every animal in sight to get what I want.

"Only a few find the way, Some don't recognize it when they do. Some don't ever want to..." ~Cheshire cat.
Sorry but that is your opinion. Please dont even try to force it on other people.
If the world seems crap for you it does not mean that it seems crap for me too.
It's not an opinion. Compare the desert side of gargamel valley and the plains screenshot I posted. Both of them are plains biome. Are they similar?
Now compare 2 plains biomes in the current terrain. Can you distinguish them?
So: If you saw all biomes now, you will not see anything different anymore.
And in Beta terrain everything is different.
What, the current generator can't generate epic plains?
Edit: LOL. I compared gargamel (Beta plains) to that my screenshot (Beta plains too).
So, if you didn't understand, again:
Beta gargamel valley (Mountainous plains) and that my screenshot (Flat plains). How much are they different?
1.4.6 plains and another 1.4.6 plains. How much are they different?
I hope you are done editing...
and...are you serious?
Sorry but after this I cant take you seriously.
Yes many things in current gen are similar to each other. especially in plains biome.
But saying that it is all bland and repetitive. Have you even played current worlds more than 5 minutes?
Many my made worlds had so much fine looking things in them.
And A world where me and my friend plays EH biome is really sweet. yes it lacks trees and the borders feel forced, but it still is a fine hill.
So it's not repetitive? Then post 2 screenshots of the biomes of the same types (Taiga and Taiga, Jungle and Jungle etc) that are so much different as that screenshot and gargamel are. If you can't do this, they are repetitive.
Well, you guys successfully turned this thread into a terrain debate so I'm going to have to redirect to this thread if you'd like to continue these discussions.

I dunno, I think shoving them in a 2x2 pen and overpopulating them, then thinning out the herd has a bit more pleasure in it than simple xenocide.

Thank god we don't have ETMA (Ethical Treatment of Minecraft Animals). I would get sooo much cow blood on my door.
They both are plains biomes. What is wrong?
