Before I begin, I would like to address that this may be perceived as a sob story to newcomers to the game but to the people who played in beta (like me) or to those veteran miners who began in alpha, this is depressing. Please state your opinions and comments below.
It was early October 2011. Two of my friends had told me about an awesome game where you could build anything you want, explore distant lands, and slay evil monsters in an infinite world.
MineCraft
I heard about the game but never really bothered to figure out what it was. One of those two friends showed me gameplay later that day; that got me permanently hooked. For the next few weeks, I watched videos from Yogscast, Captain Sparklez, ect. when eventually I decided to buy the game. I was the third of six of my friends to eventually buy the game in beta 8.3.1 (I think). One of my friends decided to make our own little private server, hosted by a server host company, where we played around in creative and made awesome structures. I was working on a skyscraper when the first problem hit. I got on one day and everything was gone. There was a new map seed and nothing we build was on sight. I was bummed but my friends and I started again. This happened a few more times and eventually asked my admin friend if he was asking to have the world reset on purpose. He was. He said after every update he asked the host to reset the world so we could start over with new game material. I was dumbfounded at his response, so I told my other friends about it and guess what, they were fine with it?! I complained saying that I don’t understand why they would agree to let our hard work go to waste. For that I was temporarily banned, which made me furious. In that time I found out the admin had chosen one of my friends to be a co-admin (which should have been a group voting decision)! He told me, “this is not a democracy and if you don’t like it leave.” The ban did not affect me, as I was boycotting the server anyway.
Over time my tensions fell and I forgave them, (still not understanding their idea of pride in work or fun). We chose to make our server public in post release 1.1 and all became admins of equal power (like it should have been). We got to work plugging in protection mods, world edit, mob disguise, ect. After 3 months of fun and hard work, we were done with the server city and sent the host company an email to un- whitelist us. They said the server would be down for a week then come back up when it was public. A week later doom arrived…
The world was gone. A new world had replaced it. Three months of hard work, gone…
It was not my friend’s fault though. It was the host site. I was so angry, disappointed and exasperated all at once. The worst of it though, will probably be unexpected to anyone reading this page.
They showed no signs of remorse for our well build world, they didn’t even seem to care! That shocked me so bad into a state of disbelief. I could not talk to them for the rest of the day. If you think this is bad, it gets worse.
A week later, MineCraft for the Xbox comes out. They completely abandon the server for it. ‘Oh Xbox MineCraft is better” they say. It brings back the feel for the old game. I say that’s fine, but abandoning he server we cared so much for is crazy. “Not anymore” they said. At that moment I lost my friends MineCraft friendship. I am still friends with them to this day but I don’t want anything to do with them MineCraft related. That is a main reason why I don’t like Xbox MineCraft, along with the fact that is so many updated behind and full of noobs who think that it is a new game that came out for the Xbox. If you want to release a game to a different consul Mojang, do it right! But I digress…
I started to look for a new server in July. To this day, I have not been able to find a server with a welcoming crowd of people who care for their creations, for the game, and for players opinions.
I love MineCraft, but I miss MineCraft friends.
First of all, if the server would not have updated and reset you would not have been able to update Minecraft yourself.
Second, it seemed like you thought you deserved co-admin position and got angry when it was given to someone else. Just because it's a group of friends doesn't mean everything should be ran by you before it happens; especially since you were banned or "boycotting" at the time.
This story is about things that **** you off and how you threw a fit about said things.
They banned you for constantly complaining about something that was required and the owner okayed themselves.
You boycotted because they didn't agree (as if it would have brought the world back anyway)
They went to play xbox like a lot of people did and shut down the server. This one kills me. You think they should have kept paying for the server just so you could play on it by yourself.
Like I said, a story about things that **** you off and how you threw a fit about said things.

First off, I did not think I deserved the co -admin position. I hated the idea of an "all powerful" admin. I wanted everyone to have the same say, like a minecraft democracy, and vote on any major server changes as a group.
Second, I did not constantly complain. I complained a few times and they did not have a right to rule over me. The reason being I forgot to mention that all of us chipped in equal amounts of money to pay for the server host.
Third, I am not selfish and did not belive they should have kept the server running for me. I just don't understand why dedicated minecraft players would change from the normal minecraft to a worse version.
It is the nature of Minecraft, what you have created is never permanent, not even in a lesser sense of the word. I am sorry you staked so much of yourself on the things you had made...

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
Err... why not just play on a server that doesn't reset their map? If you're not hosting it yourself, you can't try to control what the owner of the server does.

I'm currently accepting applications for a private, vanilla server. If you are interested, you can check it out here.
I despise people who turn over to the xbox, or never even notice the full, and better PC version. I mean I love xbox, but xbox MC, I have but never play it.
Ever heard of legendary craft? Well guess what? They reset their map. Right after I discovered and abandoned mansion. They reset everything. I feel your pain.

I hope that clarified things.
Oh, and there was never a Beta 8.3.1
I am ninja'd far too often.

Just sayin.
