So, my little brother is a fellow player of minecraft. He has a group of friends, (Obviously labelled nerds) who play games too. A few days ago a facebook situation started, with a girl from their school asking, "Why do boys play minecraft?" So I decided to start this topic and provide a link to this on that facebook page. Remember, this will prove a lot of COD fanboys wrong too (Don't we all love to?) and will surely satisfy my little bro
Anyway, another reason of this is to see some opinions. I'd like to see some.
To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
But my best reason is to explore all of the mods that are available to the game. Mods make the game so much more than vanilla, and they also make sure you have something to do. Get bored of one? Move onto another!

BTW, Xbox 360 ain't crap you n00b.
I was having a feeling there was a big ball of criticism hurtling towards me from one of my topics. I was talking about the YOUNG CoD fanboys who run around saying, "MINECRAFT IS GAY!" I accept CoD players that play other games as well as CoD, but not the ones who hate every other game and treat CoD like a religion.

I play a lot of competitive games on 360 (Gears, Halo, Dark Souls) so Minecraft is a great way to relax and take a break. Plus Minecraft is very fun to play with friends, especially when you're able to talk back and forth. All the mishaps, unexpected creepers, and don't even get me started on exploring the Nether with a friend or two; seriously one day all we did was laugh the entire time.
I wouldn't say Minecraft is better, but it has so many features and mods it's hard to really ever get bored of it. Though there are some people that will never understand the appeal of it. Who cares, if it's fun for you that's all that matters.
Because it's fun, more fun killing people over and over on every FPS out there. The amount of variety is what makes it so much fun, and anyone, no matter their play-style, can find something for them. Kids these days(I'm sorry to a part of that demographic) love to hate on games that have terrible graphics. MineCraft is, thankfully, changing the notion among children of what makes a good game, shifting the balance from good graphics to good game-play.
"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
Several reasons. Mainly for it's simplicity. The game and the worlds you create take the shape of whatever you make of them. If I want to make a large town filled with skyscrapers, parks, and whatever, I'm free to. If I just want to go on creative mode and blow craters in the earth, that's fine too.
There's also the creative aspect. I enjoy making whatever I want, whenever I want. I also like the fact that anyone and everyone can make texture packs, skins, and modifications to the game. That adds even more possibilities to what I can do in game.
There's also the exploration part. The game rewards you for exploring around, with either naturally generated structures, more materials, and if you're playing online, the occasional player build (I'm treated to some fantastic builds sometimes, which inspires me to build even more).
It's also a good time killer. Whenever I feel bored, I usually hop on Minecraft and mess around in my world some when I have some free time.
My reason to play it is sheer boredom. I launch it whenever i manage get to the point of haveing nothing to do anymore and it's still to early to head to bed while TV has only eye cancer shows on.

"Really though, it shows the mindset of a Dwarf Fortress player that when running for you life from a 30-foot tall animate bronze colossus, your first reaction to a horde of fluffy bunnies is to grab some and throw them at it." - DF player
I really dont have a reason well thats a lie... ITS BECAUSE LIFE CAN BE BORING... so i go to a different life of punching trees, building, and mining if you agree add me as a friend and reply... If you want that is
You should edit in the best reasons on first post.
Minecraft is a very creative and productive video game. It has the ability to almost achieve anything imaginable. Mods, texturepacks, even plugins make the game a brilliant masterpiece of art or major machinary. The landscape is made of cubes. Cube trees, cube mountains, EVEN CUBED ANIMALS!!! This game has the longest streak of my playing time (2 years) and I deffinatley want it to keep going!

I don't smoke, drink, or gamble and one-armed pole-dancing can only take you so far before you chafe - so Minecraft is my main stress outlet.

Out of all creative games, I have never been given infinite level capacity.
