Does anyone else use iron pickaxes for mining then diamond pickaxe when you get to the ores because diamond pickaxe is too good to mine stone. It's like I'm not touching you, you're a nobody to the stone.

Not if you just mine in caves, because then you easily mine far more ores than stone (still mine quite a bit to get all of an ore out, make stairs, etc, but far less than mining, around 1/5 of total blocks mined), and with Unbreaking III you quadruple the durability (the added repair cost doesn't quadruple the needed XP if there are other enchantments on it), plus XP from killing mobs gives you plenty to repair it with (also helps that I currently use mod tools that are more durable than diamond, but I had no problem repairing vanilla diamond tools), plus I want as much room as possible in my "active" inventory (excluding my backpacks, which increase space but I need to manually put stuff in them).
Unenchanted iron/stone pickaxes are also way too slow and short-lived for me now, don't want to spend more than a few seconds mining an ore vein; even if I spend just one level on an iron pickaxe to get Efficiency I (usually), which I used to do - I made over 400 in my first main world... by comparison, I made just three diamond pickaxes, repairing them over 200 times (330,000 uses... I know, I'm insane), but getting around 5,000 diamonds from 2,100 diamond ore, with Fortune of course.
As for naming, I name my pickaxes "Super Pickaxe"; I also name my swords "Monster Slayer", bows "Super Bow", shovels "Digger" and axes "Tree Killer". All diamond or better (mods, except for the bow; I also have both my original diamond versions and the mod versions, except for the shovel and axe, which don't warrant the increased durability and repair costs). Also, I name my armor "materialchestplate" and "materialleggings" (just removed the space) for those pieces, while my boots are named "Fall Boots" and helmet "Aqua Helmet" (easy to guess their enchantments; they are just iron because I only wear them when needed).

I names mine "One pick to mine them all". Or I would of if my first pick was legit :V (When I first started minecraft I played with creative...) but my first legit named diamond pick was "The nose picker".
Aside from a single pick per game to mine obsidian, I don't think I have ever made a diamond pickaxe during my Minecraft life. I prefer to save my diamonds for swords and perhaps armour...iron and stone work just as well digging stuff up, their resources are much more plentiful too.
I must confess I really don't understand why people would use up precious diamonds on tools like picks and shovels, but maybe I'm just a scrooge who hoards my resources too much, idk.
I'm kind of a hoarder to when it comes to things like iron and diamonds. I used to hoard almost all of my iron until I had a stack of it then started making iron tools and armour, and also I used to never use my diamonds. But now I've eased off hoarding both and have become more comfortable in making iron and diamond stuff.
I can't say that I've made a diamond pickaxe and given it a name, though.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
