Just want to know if we would like seasons in Minecraft if it were to be nicely implemented.
My ideas of nicely implemented seasons:
- smooth transition between seasons (all changes, including the color of grass and leaves, happens slow and in phases)
- rains quite often during spring (not the rain we have now, it should be a lot less annoying because it would be happening quite often) and in return, crops, baby animals, and trees will grow faster than usual.
- always sunny during summer (we've had enough rain during spring). The days are longer, the nights are shorter (building season).
- the color of the the grass and leaves (with the exception of player placed ones) slowly changes as fall approaches. Leaves will decay and would grow back during spring.
- snows during winter, but not every time. Ice and snow will melt on their own after (except player placed ones). The days are shorter, the nights are longer (monster hunting season ftw)
This is not a suggestion. I just want to know if people would like seasons if they were implemented the way I explained above. You're also welcome to discuss what you want and don't want to see.
Yes, and I wouldn't mind there being a whole Nature Update to breathe visible life into Minecraft's natural world. Right now it's more or less static, except for occasional precipitation (which is more of a calamity than ambience) and barnyard animals walking around pretending to be wildlife.

It sounds pretty nice. I think it'd be cool to see different seasons in minecraft. Might make for some spectacular screenshots!
I'd also kinda like to see leaves on the ground during the fall, similar to snow during the winter/snowy areas. Stepping through em would make a sort of crunching sound.

This is an awesome idea. However I would be surprised if this was the first time it's been mentioned. Nontheless, it's a fantastic idea that I think should be added.
Could also get some leaf particle effects like leaves falling from the trees, almost similar to water drops when you're under a block that has water above it.
I also thought of something along the lines of wildly overgrown grass in the spring that might slow you down when you move through it. . Also could have wild flowers/mushrooms that might spawn a bit more frequently in the springtime.
I can't really think of much else you could add to summer, except that some bodies of water might dry up (though I really don't like that idea lol).
Actually, my opinion is that what we have now would be summer. I also really like the idea of snow-like leaf cover in autumn.
Come to think of it, snow-shaped blocks would also have been a far less annoying way to handle jungle undergrowth...

An option to make seasons change at the same time as real life does! I would love to see that :3
I'd prefer it change around the minecraft time. I don't like the idea of playing during the winter and all my worlds constantly be covered in snow all the time lol. This would be ok in the fall however.
I was thinking it could be similar to that in real life, where the seasons begin to change every 90 days or so in game, but that sounds like an awfully long time. Maybe 40 in-game days.
It really is hard to decide on how often it would happen. Too many days and it would seem too long, and people would become used to one season, or too few and it happens so quick that people might not have enough time to prepare for such changes (I can imagine there might be a few people who would design builds based around a season, which might make it look a bit better than usual).
I was thinking one Minecraft year would have 4 months, one for each season, and each month will maybe be 25-30 days long. Another idea that came to mind was being able to kinda predict the weather by looking at the sky, kinda like in real life. The clouds will be darker when it's about to rain.
There used to be a Seasons mod in 1.7.3
I kinda liked it, but then 1.8 came and the mod didn't get updated...
There's also a season mod for 1.3.2, it's a part of FarmCraftory (http://www.minecraft...0-now-released/), but it isn't very smooth, if that makes sense.

What exactly is constituted as a "year" in Minecraft?
Some may say they want fast years, others slow years. Anyway, if we do get seasons the big issue would be how often.
