I haven't seen someone troll with intentions that "convincing". Besides, why'd the OP have the nerve to respond to replies? (I bets trolls won't even try) Well, she might be a smart troll, but being too serious about age and such I don't really think so.
Either way IMO those trolls you are reffering to are probably sexual harassers/discriminators who want to find excuses/justify their actions from other well-intentioned people (including those who are against it), but no troll is a pure Karma Houdini.
Other than what I mentioned, got any idea how'd they use it?
I didn't say that the OP was a troll, but the people who are being 'sexist'. Trolling is widely used to annoy people on the internet. The fact that the OP posted this thread makes it clear they are annoyed, and if they are annoyed by it, more trolls would use it.
I highly doubt anyone who is 'sexually harassing' people on a Minecraft server would actually do anything to the same girl in real life; hence it is trolling and posting this topic gives them motivation, or 'feeding the trolls' as it is commonly referred to.
And what would the trolls use it for? What all trolls do. Annoying people over the internet for their own shits and giggles.

tl;dr: This topic is feeding trolls.
Well both genders are at fault and some of them can be considered trolls.
You know, now that I think back. In all my time as a mod on a server (close to a year and a half) I never had to deal with any harassment, excluding my own (by men AND women!) of course.
Female Looking Skin + Moderator = Guys asking if you're a girl.
Telling them No + Moderator = Girls asking if you have a girlfriend.
The whisper system allowed the girls to be ridiculously persistent....the guys gave up once I said no. They, however, kept trying.
It all stopped of course once I started dropping (non-explosive but still deadly) TnT on everyone who asked.
Morale of this story: Girls are just as guilty of harassment on servers.
Yeah it isn't right that kids do that to girls, but its just little boys being little boys. If you want to avoid it, find a server that promises mature players, or even an all girl server.
This has only happened to me once. Most boys on servers are nice to me or just treat me like any other player. The one time it happened I was harassed by a player in Survival Games who wouldn't leave me alone. It varies from server to server I guess.
Imagine being 10 (!), experiencing sexual harassment, and then your shock and complaints being completely dismissed simply because of your gender.
"What did you expect, you're female!"
"Don't let people know you're female, then!"
Excuse me? That's really sad. Really, really sad. Telling a 10 year old how her gender should make her an obvious target, and that she should just shut up and take it. That simply being female and being distinguishable as female makes her the one that is at fault in this situation. Wow. *applauds*
Shame on the people that think this is acceptable and normal, and not worth changing. Shame on the people that defend this shitty situation.
Change? On the internet? Ha!
The posts shes been getting are honest advice, sorry for not turning this into a pity circle jerk and just being brutally honest.
If you don't like the treatment, HTFU or just move on.
EDIT: Changed it to move on, I find HTFU and carry on to be synonymous.
You know something's wrong in the world when being a douche is expected, but if you are to react negatively to that asshole behaviour, you're seen as "in the wrong".
I agree. And what really doesn't help is that on the internet, there is another subcurrent going on that says that anyone who complains about anything is being a whiny baby and needs to shut up. It's absolutely everywhere, the "QQ moar" mentality I mean, and it tries to choke out just about every legitimate grievance ever mentioned.

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."

it's only 2:45 PM and i've already hit my up-vote quota... and in this thread no less...
I'm a 31 year old woman. I've played games all my life. I have a youtube channel where I do let's plays of various games (mostly Minecraft), and I get comments like 'Woah... you're a girl? Playing Minecraft?' all the time.
I'm also a server / community admin. We have two biggish Minecraft servers (about 5000 people on the whitelist of both). We try to foster a community of respect on our server, because we find that when the players respect each other, things like manners regarding property, treatment of other players, etc. comes more naturally. Any mistreatment of another player - regardless of gender - gets actioned hard by the admins. We just don't stand for it. And honestly, this is how it should be in any online community. The internet is a terrible place for stereotyping and things like misogyny because it's just so easy to be 'that person' - no face, no consequence. Unfortunately it's also terribly easy for internalised sexism (http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Internalized_sexism) to become a problem - mostly because people don't realise they're doing it.
"I usually pretend to be a boy", for example, is not a great response. Sexism is not right, and hiding from it does not help you, your fellow females, or the situation as a whole. Always remember that whenever you see people making fun of you for being a female gamer, pointing out with surprise that you're a female gamer, treating you differently in any way for being a female gamer, THEY are the ones in the wrong. It's not okay to behave like this, and if we want it to stop, we have to stop responding to it in a way that encourages the stereotype.
The average gamer is 30 years old -- huh? OK, but is the average MINECRAFTER 30 years old? Take a look at the ages people list in the server forum when they are applying. From all of those applications I'd say the average MC age is 14-15 at most.
Soo. . . um . . . some of the above arguing being ignored, I support the spirit of this thread. Luckily, I haven't been the victim or even the witness of anything like this (an obvious large part of the reason being that I'm a guy), but I do know alittle bit of what it's like to be forced to leave a server just because of one jerk. It's really not much like the problems you're mentioning, but it's enough for me to appreciate how bad it feels. I doubt it really matters- looking above it's kinda easy to see this is getting taken over by arguments- but hopefully this thread will be noticed by server admins.
This thread is causing a large number of unnecessary reports, because of consistently unacceptable behavior by several members. If this continues we will be issuing formal warnings to all those involved.
This thread is not a discussion thread for feminism, sexism, misogyny, or any topic that isn't WROS. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
If you have any concerns, please contact me privately via PM.

fair enough, i've voiced my opinion and my support, anything else i say will likely be a repeat of the last 20 pages i've posted in.
i'll probably continue to read this thread, but my input will be severely diminished.
I'm going to throw in my two cents too, even if my opinion have been repeated ad nauseum.
The main gist of it is this: If this thread makes more admins and moderators to enforce no-sexual harassment rules, then more power to you.
But I'm getting annoyed by the way that some opinions and advice are shot down with the idealistic mantra of "this is how it should be." And I can understand why you want to be able to go to any server and not have to deal with negative attention because you are a girl, I really do. But the cold hard truth is that the best advice ever given in this thread is simply: Find yourself a server with people who treat you the way you want. This applies to any form of negative attention, be it sexual harassment, racism, religious or otherwise. While there is nothing wrong with trying to change people's opinions, there is also a need to realise that ours is not a perfect world. Even less so behind the anonymity that the internet provides.
The server I regularly play on has anti-harassment rules. Not written down, but rather a understanding between the players that certain behaviours are not accepted. These are the kinds of servers you need to search for. If you don't know how, ask the community here on the forums or get your parents to help you.
I'm a guy, and I agree with this, but to me it seems like its being blown out of proportion. To start, you can actually turn the chat off in MC. Don't want too see it? Turn it off. Also, If you play on a server where this happens, just leave the freaking server. There is about 700 mediums size public servers online every second, most have strict rules against this kind of thing. However, I have noticed this kind of disgusting behaviour a bit, and the way I see it is this- gender does play a huge role in things, but all people are human. We shouldn't be treating different genders differently when it comes down to something so menial like Minecraft.

I find it ironic that it's caused by sexual harassers.
