There is no way to do it without mods (unless its in the snapshot and you set it to cheats). otherwise the advice from the people above would be helpful.
i was wondering is thare any way that i could change my world from creative (becausing building a arena map) to survival?? HELP PLZZZ
Theres an easier way now! Go on your survival world, go to settings, open it to LAN, enable cheats, do what you want, save and quit! But Too Many Items is good if you don't want to open to LAN every time.

My wife and I play via Lan and even when she isn't in game, my LAN is on with cheat enabled..if I am feeling creative../gamemode 1, /gamemode 0 to switch back to survival. simple enough that noob like I can do it.
So Ive built a survival island from scratch in creative mode... and want to switch it to survival mode before uploading the map for everyone?... what is the best way to do this?...

The first of which is using single player commands: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/94310-125-single-player-commands-v322-official-download/ and then doing /gamemode survival or /gamemode creative
The second way is by using TooManyItems: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/140684-12512w26a-toomanyitems-in-game-invedit-june-28/ and looking in the top right corner of your inventory where the change game mode button is.
The third way, if your on a server is doing /gamemode (username) 0
I think some replies on here miss that point?..
