Hi! One of my friends had me fixed on the topic of the differences between the legit (purchased) version of Minecraft, and the cracked (pretty much stolen) version of Minecraft.
The friend who mentioned this should be filled in with this info because he is a crack user (and dealer...):
- Is the cracked version of Minecraft slower than the actual version of the game?
- Can you host games on the cracked version?
- Is the cracked version of Minecraft illegal?
I'm linking him to this post so he can see for himself the difference between good and bad.
He should also just BUY the real version because he's got the money to do so.
Playing cracked version is fine as long as you plan to buy it later when you are able to earn. But copying and then 'selling' it off illegally or earning ad. revenue on cracked hosting sites is really the other darker side and should be dealt with strictly...

This poor fly needs a lovely hand to take care. Sadly, 90% simply ignore this
2. he can not join servers unless they have offline mode set to false, so he won't be able to join 99.999% of all minecraft servers cleint and server things are different, so actually, you don't even have to buy minecraft to host a premium server.
For people who think Notch and Mojang 'don't mind' piracy. They do. They have a business to run and piracy hurts that business. However it would be more of a hassle and likyl be worse for business for them to try and prosecute every entitled twelve year old who thinks they are 'Uber Haxor' because they downloaded something illegally. So they just deal with it. Minecraft is successful enough and Notch is smart enough to not try and crack down on it. As it stands one could argue that this relaxed almost indifferent attitude about piracy has actually helped them. Though such an argument is likely riddled with logic so flawed and circular that it would make even a politician dizzy.
So OP that is why most of the community looks down upon the practice of using cracked clients, but also just ignores those that do, so long as they keep it to themselves. As for your specific questions, well, they have been answered quite thoroughly and I would rather not go on an intense rant at this hour in the morning, its around six AM my time at the writing (or typing if you prefer) of this post and I have yet to get to sleep. But enough about me. This is all about educating your 'friend' in the error of his ways. Good luck. But I won't be holding my breath.
Humanity is the creation of Logic and Emotion, Calculation and Imagination, Cold Analysis and Blind Faith. This is why I believe it is a strange Human that would prize one while shunning the other. For a calculator can do math just as well as you, but a calculator can not use math to make the world a better place.
I agree with everyone else here -- they're all on the right track.
I'd like to just say though, that getting the cracked version of MC is illegal, but not bad if you plan on buying it later. Same goes with music, and well... everything on the internet. It's just good to support the developer's hard work.
Uhm i should have pirated the game, bought the game and found it it was just overated. Isn't a bad game but it doesn't worth the 30 or something dollars i spent on it.

Hi promero14. You are the first forum member I have ever seen to post a dislike for Minecraft in such a manner. What didn't you like about Minecraft?
Probabily because i don't think it worth that much. $15 is a fair price for it. Maybe i'll change my mind later but so far haven't play more than 5-6 hours since i bought it.
Piracy from average person's point of view: "Free stuff! It doesn't hurt anyone!"
Piracy from an indie developer's point of view: "I just spent a year and five-hundred dollars working on this game, and I haven't earned a cent from it, despite it being extremely popular!"
See? Not theft, but still very damaging, especially to indie developers.

If you think it's only work $15, then it's just not the right kind of game for you. For a ton of us, we get hundreds of hours of gameplay out of this. $26 is fair.
First of all. It's not okay to have a cracked version period. Even if you are going to pay for it later.
If you want to play Minecraft so badly, then play the classic version until you can afford it. That's what I did and that's what everyone else who wants Minecraft SHOULD do.
I (to my shame) was using a cracked client for all of two weeks. I always thought minecraft was for losers with no life. But then I realized, one day, that I can't judge something before I look into it. So I got a cracked client and played for a couple weeks. Biiig mistake. I have now owned the legal version for longer than I care to admit. I am a big fan of supporting Indie developers. Minecraft is worth buying.
Is the legit version faster? - No.
Can you host games on the cracked version? - Ya!
Is the cracked version illegal? - To a certain extent but you won't see any men in black suits, though.
Notch actually encourages pirating the game at first so you can see what it's actually like.

3. yes, cracked client is illegal
So going to steal a car form a dealership, driving it for awhile, but as long as you are eventually going to buy it, it's ok?
Tell that to the cops when they come pick you up.

Jeb said that? I kinda want to put some sense into him. Anyway,
1: Maybe, don't know.
2:Yes, don't know how because I am a legit.
3: Obviously. Is stealing illegal? No? Don't know what planet your on.
2. Yes, but I'm not telling you how.
3. Take Photoshop, Vegas or any popular program. It's illegal, but it would cost them more to hire people tp fight it then to deal with it

Useless things, the concept of our minds.
