I personally enjoy raiding other factions. I think pvp can make the game fun if done the right way. Some servers allow you one day to get settled into a zone. The raiding ones promote team work and take a lot of skill. So long as no one hacks its fun.
But I also like to sit back, relax, and build cool stuff. Minecraft lets you do both things.
this. in a controlled state, pvp is the funnest thing i think you can get in minecraft.
and to people who say there isnt any strategy in pvp... ******** to that. there's potions, traps and all the unaccountable things for you to look out for, such as lava buckets, wolves, and some guy sniping at you from behind a tree because he figured out the shift key.
I Hate Pvp. Hate it. Its not minecraft. Minecraft SMP is about working together to accomplish goals. Now when I browse the server forum, all i see is PVP this and hardcore that. It would be ok if this was only some servers but it seems like EVERY server is PVP, every man for himself. I hate griefing too. Why should I get on to my server only to find my house has been looted? And why would I be the ass who griefs someone else's hard work? Just thought I needed to get this out there. PVP is not my thing nor will it ever be. Thanks for reading.
I feel like there are two branches of minecraft. Co-operative/building and pvp/greifing. I personally find them both fun to play, co-operative with your friends and building things is fun every now and then, but I feel I can only play on the same world doing that for 3 weeks until I am bored. PvP and greifing however brings in competition and strategy which never gets old and is always new. Although minecraft's pvp system is pretty bad (literally sword fighting is just spam clicking) there are so many angles where you can bring in strategy. It's also so much fun to get a team going with your friends and run around in a group owning pvp and greifing and overalll getting good at mionecraft pvp.
I typically will prefer a more peaceful, building server to that of a pvp server. It always seems very hard for me to get going on a pvp server, and I don't get the same satisfaction in one that I might in a peaceful server.
For one thing, in a pvp server, I'm always having to check behind me. I always have to keep watch of my surroundings. Much more so than in single player or a peaceful server. Because you never know when someone is right behind you, looking to kill you and rob you of your hard earned iron and diamonds. Building a house isn't the same either. I will usually have to hide chests in some obscure place that's a real pain to get to, otherwise if I leave and someone finds it, not only will my house be demolished to the ground, my items will also be gone.
Combat wise, I admit, I do suck at it. I normally play with a controller in minecraft (I've grown used to this, I almost can't play with the mouse/keyboard anymore lol). As a result, I usually can't look around all that fast, so someone who's got some good equipment might easily take me out in a few hits. Another thing is my internet connection. It does alright, but it's not all that fast, and I will usually find myself lagging from server to server; meaning that I move around fine, but there's a delay in connection between me and the server.
I can see why people might enjoy a pvp server. Some people like a challenege, some might just enjoy the suspense and the adrenaline that comes from it. Personally, it's not something I like lol. I would rather build. I don't mean "give everyone creative and a plot", rather that I still have to survive, but I also don't have to worry about someone in diamond armor chasing me, trying to kill me for whatever possessions I have on me.
Meh... thats a tough one. I like PvP. Y'see on the first day of minecraft I went up to an iron armored guy with a stone sword and sniped him out. It's pretty fun, and it shows how experienced you are and whos boss. I mean, if you had iron armor and you were pvping a diamond armored guy and you won, how would you feel? And if you lost, no biggie, you had iron armor. But I agree too because sometimes you get tired of battling and want to chillax. If you want, i got a chillaxing server the ip is: 64.58.248.104
I agree. PVP STINKS. I hate it hate it hate it! How do I express myself more? I built a wooden house, only to find that the whole thing had been skinned. I knocked on someone's door, they placed lava on me. I try to chop down a tree when some guy in a full suit of enchanted diamond armor just kills me, only to get worthless materials to THEM that would've been good for ME.
I've found that the state of PvP servers is much like the real world. There's the huge group of "lower class" players that takes up, maybe, 80% or so of the population, who are forced to aimlessly wander in empty griefed wastelands with only stone tools and maybe a bit of leather armour. While the remaining 20% is the top class, living the high life in lush jungles and beautiful mountains somewhere far beyond spawn, romping around with their godswords and super-enchanted diamond armour.
you think your invincible with a full daimond armor with a daimond sword with sharpness 2 then comes another full daimond that with a 127 bow kills you.............................THANKS FOR THE TRILL OF PVP SERVERS
Some people like the added challenge of, not only having to survive against mobs, but also having to build a base with traps and secrets to defend against much more intelligent players and withstand any raids. Then, once you've mined, farmed and built, you can go out with a bunch of good gear and fight with other players to reap the rewards.
So long as there aren't hackers ruining it all, I actually quite like complete anarchy servers. I'd say it's almost more "vanilla" and natural for playing minecraft like that rather than playing cooperatively; it makes use of elements like PVP and splash potions which are almost useless in cooperative play.
Yes, if you're running around spawn with nothing on or building nice little houses on the surface you're probably going to die. Most of the time something happens it's your own fault. I think the problem most people have with these servers is that they have the attitude that "killing is unfair" and will ragequit if their "hard earned" items get stolen. The point is you're meant to protect yourself and your items. Using resources to make sure people don't steal your items is part of the challenge.
It's definitely quite a lot different to normal play though and not everyone likes it. For those who are used to it though it adds more excitement into the game and brings back the feeling of actually having to build to defend against others rather than it mainly being an aesthetical thing.
ya but the grief happens almost all the time your not online.

Well, we all have our opinions and I don't mind whatever you say. I prefer PvP mostly because it's got things other First Person Shooter games don't. In regular Deathmatch you just start with a few weapons and then you just have to kill others to score points until the end of the match, which is in about half an hour or until somebody gets the maximum score. Here, in Minecraft, you actually have to find resources and beat your enemy using good base constructions, laying traps, and using the resources you find. In Minecraft PvP, skill and survival is more involved, meaning it's not just a game where you grab a gun and shoot. Besides, some servers are customized to have gamemodes from other games, meaning I don't necessarily have to buy the original game.
Although I kinda agree when one said that there are too many overpowered guys. This should add for a better challenge...
I own my on server called -ExLegends PvP
There is parkour and creative and pvp/raid/Survival!
Most servers are like this! You don't have to just play PVP go play something else!
I agree with you, one moment you've got full diamond armor, diamond tools and all and someone finds your hideout and takes it all!!!! Source:experience.. but if you don't like PvP don't play on it..

Building takes just as much skill as pvp. Just the right click button. Pvp involves skill. Building requires little.
Have your opinions. I personally like non grief servers (Such as cites) I now am getting into pvp. Provided it has a plugin to even it out. Such as bending, magic, classes or whatnot to even out pvp.
I find great joy in raiding noobs who take joy of killing my faction members. That and giving great pain to spies. Always fun to let them on a wild goose chase. I also make goodness by getting friends of high ranking factions on a server. Not just pvp skills, It takes knowledge and skill to take out others. People work to find your base. Do they not?
I also like how half of the 1+ are made by people who type a sentence to support another sentence. What great joy.

Letting newbies get supplies is a risk. I learned that the hard way when on a mushroom island, my faction member took a few supplies and made a base at the end of the island. Next day he betrays me and calls 4 other factions to take our land.
Of course I got them back... With some other "Friends"

i disagree i luv pvp. I like the thrill of the chase, and i dont like, but not really mind greifers. Just ASK a staff member to protect ur house. No big deal.
Yeah, if you know your server info then you can just ask an admin or staff member to put protection around your property.

PvP servers have easily flooded into the top servers cause of how easy they are operated. Most of the time the server's owners dont even play it. A SMP with no pvp is costly for the operators have to deal with the griefing, annoying spamming, and tending to players needs. A PvP server needs a small amount of plugins and it is easy to run. My favorite server was turned into a pvp only server in a month. The PvP servers are hot and no SMPs are left cause there's greener pastures in the PvP servers, also with demand for PvPs.
Everyone Happy.
I myself dont like PvP in regular minecraft but, i love playing PvP maps. PvP maps dont cause any costly things like building and spawn camping and are fun. The rush of winning and losing is not my idea of enjoyment. I have said what i wanted
Sadly, I am going to have to disagree with most of you all. I enjoy playing on PvP servers! Thats 99% of what I play when I get on minecraft. I do understand that it may be a little frustruating coming into a PvP server with no or a restricted amount of supplies that you start off with however, I beleive that it is fun rising up and becoming a good player in that server. Additionally, I personally like when i get griefed and raided becuase then it gives me a mission to rebuild my base.
Hey man seems like you really dislike pvp! Try finding a server that has factions incorporated in it. By doing this you could have land to build in and not get griefed. (depends on server setup) Therefore you have your classic survival with no
looting/griefing. Problem solved!
They flood the god damn server list.
