I've been playing Minecraft on and off since 1.7.3 and was curious if I update an old world, will it have a stronghold in it?
When I created my world in 1.7.3 I saved a clean copy of it before I did any work. I recently loaded it in 1.2.5 and saw the message about it being converted to Anvil. What I'd like to know is will there be a stronghold spawned somewhere as I walk around or would I be wasting my time?
I like the layout of the world but I'd really like to take advantage of the strongholds as well.
I'm curious about this, because I've explored underground for thousands of meters from my spawn and haven't found a single stronghold OR abandoned mineshaft.
Well, I downloaded an x-ray mod and tried it. I did see three huge underground mine shafts but haven't found any stronghold. There also seems to be an inordinate amount of coal... almost looks like every 4th block is coal.
I may not have gone far enough though since I had the UI turned off so as not to spoil it with coords. if there was in fact one. I'd still want to "discover" it the old fashioned way.
I believe that upgrading an old world before strongholds came it wont spawn, if you use the biome finder it will say a stronghold is there but isn't due to its an old map.

Thanks.
Do old maps have structures turned off?
