While I would love to re-live moments from the beta, I'm going to go out and say that Minecraft is 100x a better game than it was this time last year.
I highly agree. The old days were awesome, but i still love Minecraft how it is now. I personally think its improved very much. I kinda like the hunger bar, it just brings another element of survival. I sometimes enjoy the hardcore mode, and the enchantments and alchemy is pretty cool! For classic and Modern, i think im on Modern Minecrafts side.

Ya the updates were really awesome through the past, but I guess its just how many updates are coming and how fast...
I wasn't disappointed by a single update, (Except halloween update) all the way to 1.8. it changed the core stuff, and it killed 75% of fun for me.Well, I was very excited about it coming out... But hunger was supposed to be part of the realistic mode, right? I didn't know the terrain generation would get f*cked, and they didn't tell anything about new sounds.
you see i think i loved alpha and it was better BUT it was because the world was so big i didn't get anything about the game and being a noob is fun but if i started now i would have 2x as much fun it's just because you were new to a great game you didn't get.
Let me get something strait first: I got minecraft back in early alpha, and sure, i really miss all the old crazy stuff that used to happen during that time, but i'm no old man saying "you know, back in my day in alpha, ........." I just miss the old alpha terrain generation, with crazy natural features and those crazy bright leaves and grass. I miss having no biomes, just 1 whole thing. I miss having no nether. I miss the simplicity of the game. Chop wood, make tools, make home, survive night, get wood, mine stone, make stone tools, improve home, find cave, find diamonds, work on house again, chop more wood, make a farm etc. etc. There was no biomes or nether or Enderdragon boss fight. Just. Minecraft.
Minecraft is just too complicated now days.
Eh, before u get mad and say "U DARN MC HATER U STUPID OLD FART GO BACK TO ALPHA GOD DAMN IT" I still like minecraft. It's still a good game. But, it doesn't have that special feeling to it. that feeling that is Minecraft.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
its ENDERmen not ELDERmen, are you purposely trying to get mojang in yet another law suit with Bethesda?? god

OMG! Sparkly Diamonds all the way across the mine!
I dont like the mythology type turn it took on at the end. I saw it as a nice survival sandbox but then potions, enchanting, and dragons? Its not what I was wanting out of minecraft but I enjoy it nonetheless.
disagree. Notch is making it realistic. not easy or hard. just facing the facts. and if it stayed the same there wouldnt be jungles and cats and enderdragons. I did start in 1.0.0 so you dont have to argue with me if i sound stupid. but sience 1.0.0 its gotten better. I would think i wouldent care if iI started at ALPHA. thats just me. who is with me?
Seriously? I see everything. Despite Heavy Rain + Night. edit: If it rained during a 1.7 night you wouldn't see a creeper until it was too late. Same goes for unlit caves. It was just darker.
I must be a blind fool then. The darkness causes a huge contrast issue, which makes it hard to tell mobs apart from the terrain. It's far harder to see when the rain is animated, I might add.
The main problem is: They addded so much completelly shitty and/or incomplete things. Many of them like that terribad enchanting are ignoreable. But others are essenstila and not ignoreable.
The essenstila flaw here is obvious.
After the World Gen change I never had long time fun again in Minecraft. Seriously. The world gen. is soo wrong (even though I like jungles).
As we all know, you can quantitatively measure the "wrong-ness" of the world gen, proving that the new one is bad because it is different than the old one.
To those who say: Not much difference: You are confusing tons of generic mountains that you can't build on to the varied old structures you could actually build on and right next to it without moving 10 tons of dirt arround.
I've been building on and next to things in 1.2. Certainly, I've done terraforming, but it's not quite as awful as you make it out to be.
When I built somethin in 1.7 I search a mountain and move arround 1 stack of dirt and it's perfect. In 1.8 I need to move 20 stacks of dirt until it looks bearable.
Or perhaps you need to "search a mountain" some more before you start building. That might be the problem. Search a mountain more.
I bet those who seriously like the way Minecraftw ent are those little children you always had on Multiplayer servers. Building a cube of Dirt or Cobble and proudly calling it their "home" Until they build more of those. And then they'll do the totally cool glass tower...! Those probably love it because of all the "c00l featureZ", while completely ignoring how ****ing unfinished they are (I like the idea of enchanting and potions but it's implementation is more than sub-par.)
I, for the most part, like the way Minecraft went. I am a teenager who is intelligent, coherent, and rational. Does that make me a child anyways? I'm afraid not. I would wager that many of the people who utterly hate the way Minecraft has gone are the very people you just described.
Personally, I dislike enchanting's random nature. That doesn't ruin Minecraft. I don't like The End. That doesn't ruin Minecraft either. The terrain generator is mildly bland at times. That doesn't ruin Minecraft either. Minecraft would be "ruined" if it got a bunch of questlines and assault rifles thrown in at random, then was turned into a cover-based shooter where the terrain is formed entirely out of chest-high walls.

Proud o' yourself? You just called yourself intelligent, coherent, and rational... Don't tell me that isn't childish. But, let's move on to something else. As I already said, wolves, the end, the nether, and other avoidable features are not annoying at all. But I hate this bland new terrain generation, Hunger bar that was supposed to be a part of realistic mode, new sounds, and the new weapon damage(Though the last two are bearable).

I would rather not blast my ego into the stratosphere by quantifying my mental aspects, thank you very much. However, it is quite clear that you were ready to jump to conclusions.
Regardless, your complaints boil down to terrain generation and the hunger bar. I don't exactly understand how the game is no longer Minecraft because of:
An arguably blander terrain, albeit with interesting features
A bar that makes food less of a space-waster and prevents you from taking outrageous risks

The only real problem I have with the new updates is the new world generation. 1.7 and back was the best, and 1.8 just kind of took away a lot of Minecraft's charm.
Really? He said "What is your opinion." Not "How much of a douche can you be." I honestly like both, they both had there pro's and con's. Give your opinion, then walk away. Its not a freakin' contest. I mean, for god sake, Its a DAMN GAME.
Hunger was supposed to be part of the realistic mode, which the mojang never did, so let's ignore it since it's mojang's fault that I and a ton of other people that don't like hunger must play with it. Sounds and weapon damage are not THAT bad, so let's ignore them. So the only feature I hate now is the terrain generation- and most people actually agree on that one. That's just one thing I really hate, and of course excluding hunger.
I have played on 1.8.1 Beta and 1.2.4 and I think nothing much has changed. It's still about claiming materials, building a home and whacking off Creepers to their (or your) doom. Whatever changes that has happened is probably for the good of Minecraft itself, and we just have to learn to adapt, just like in any other game around.

In the past, I played hours and hours minecraft without getting bored, I was so happy when I was building my first house.
But now its like
"oh, a creeper, *kill him* oh, great, exp... BORING, im going to read a book"
F***ing nostalgia
You hit the spot there. I completely agree

So you miss not having a feature that can be completely ignored and is in no way required to enjoy the game?
Ya it kind of sends, the challenge of unknown territory, out the window!
It's so bright that I can't see anything!
Oh, wait...
