In the past, back to alpha, and beta, I had some great times in minecraft. Then came all these updates with all these changes. And don't get me wrong I love the new updates, especially enchanting. But Notch changed the game so much, its not so MINECRAFT anymore. There was no 'hunger bar' just health bar. Food wasn't stackable which made the game harder. The cobblestone had a darker texture. I miss all these things. Minecraft is changing. What are your thoughts. Agree or Disagree?
While I would love to re-live moments from the beta, I'm going to go out and say that Minecraft is 100x a better game than it was this time last year.
Exactly this. Damn, infdev was a long while ago, those we the good days. I had so much fun learning and experiencing. Then I learned it all, got into a basic new world strategy, and was soon an expert. Just look into finding a jarfile for alpha or infdev. They've gotta be around here somewhere, haha
Miencraft has grown ad hopefully it continues to grow even bigger. A plain hamburger would satisfiy most of you but the rest of us want a bigMac. Minecraft is truly alwsome and needs to grow. Find your self a old version and never upgrade. But to make a thread about how you hate the new features being added when a million other people strive and subscribe and buy account's just for it's development. Would it be fair to millions of fans for minecraft to never develope just so you can be happy? Specially when there is a feature to update or not. I personally find this thread out of topic and place, cause with out all the other fans mojang wouldn't be such a success and minecraft wouldn't be available on other systems for others to enjoy.
I'm voting for this thread to be closed do to it being a waste of space on the net. Evolution has to keep moving we can't stay in the dark because some hate change or fear it.

You gotta be open to peoples opinion, man.
Even if we don't agree to it.
The OP wants to talk about things we miss from older versions and perhaps later in Minecraft's life there'll be an option for reverting textures back to Alpha/Beta days for the nostalgic crowd who can't be bothered to use MCNostalgia (me).
Well the old world pre 1.8 got bugged and it is spreading snow. So I would have to say that it kinda sucked. Food was not stackable but wheat was so I just brought a lot of wheat and made bread when I needed it. I haven't gotten into enchanting simply because I am so good at caving I don't need it. And I am rich in iron. I don't know what you are starved for? There are certainly changes but I like them. For instance, I like the fact I can interact with animals more than before. It has allowed me to create a farm. I can build more complex buildings in a more interesting world.
I admit I left Minecraft for a little bit while I played another game. And after a couple months I came back and I love it all over again!
you see i think i loved alpha and it was better BUT it was because the world was so big i didn't get anything about the game and being a noob is fun but if i started now i would have 2x as much fun it's just because you were new to a great game you didn't get.
honestly it perplexes me all these complaints about how the hunger system completely ruined the game for everyone. IMO it comes down to you just wanting to be able to blow through food and damage not to really matter. nonstackable food didn't make it harder, being able to blow through endless food and survive anything made it easy.

The truth is the truth, it's all you can do is live with it.
Oh bother. I'm going to have to record this so that I can just play it back the next time someone says "minecraft is no longer minecraft" or "minecraft is ruined forever."
You are experiencing nostalgia. This is normal. You are viewing the past through rose-tinted lenses, ignoring all the features that have been added since Alpha and focusing entirely on the flaws that have been introduced. At its core, Minecraft is still Minecraft. You are Steve(?) and you must survive in a world filled with exploding suicide shrubs and dangerous environmental hazards. You mine rocks and dig dirt. You craft weapons and you build houses. That has not changed. New features such as brewing and enchanting have been added, but these are merely additions to the same underlying concept.
The game is still Minecraft. Take off the rose-tinted glasses and have a look around.
I honestly love all of the new updates to Minecraft and that the game is moving forward. But the thing I miss the most is the old world seeds before 1.8, like Glacier and 404. I had a lot of fun playing on Glacier and it will forever be my favorite seed.
I do think you're wrong. I believe that a game cannot progress and because SOMETHING if it does not evolve. Sadly, the shock from the first week of, placing blocks, or building your first home or slaying your first Creeper have long since passed. Minecraft would not have anything near the shear amount of people it has now if Notch hadn't added Jungles or utility mobs. It must be done.

I've always imagined Minecraft as a first-person RPG, like the Elder Scrolls, and I personally love the direction Mojang has taken it.
However, if you want old Minecraft that bad, you could always download MCNostalgia.

I'm sure I'll get attacked by nostalgia infected flamers.

As much as I love the old days, Minecraft is a lot better now. More updates means more things to work with and change up. This keeps Minecraft fresh.
