Total conversion mods, example a isometric perspective RPG (diablo/torchlight) hell even a total war mod. Impossible? Yes probably wait what was the topic about again?
Oh Minecraft 5 years from now, hmmm let's see, quite possibly we might have a sequel at that point, hopefully not coded in java )
MINECRAFT 3.4.2! Now with real depth immersion and quantum particulate transfer blocks! Also, drive around in hovercraft and get pimp houses with a single press of a button! Rich kids on pvp servers? New laser enchantments! Eliminate enchantment to lol in your enemy's grave!
Uh, probably dead. I hope not though. Look at most popular things through history: Starts out small, gets bigger, gets bigger, gets huge, and then people just stop so it gets smaller, smaller, smaller, and is back where it started.

*At Gamestop* Hey guys! Get your new Minecraft 2 available for only 49.99! It is on the Wii3, the XBox 1440, the PS7, and the Nintendo DSv5. Also with a free copy of Half Life 4! Me: I remember Minecraft 1 as a 15 year old a few years back. Maybe I can make it popular again! *A Year Later* News Anchor: A game called Minecraft and its sequel, Minecraft 2, are doing awesome! 9 Billion Sales! *2 years later in a science lab* A random scientist: Hey, that game called minecraft and its successor, MInecraft 2, are cool. Maybe I can find a way to insert a disc of Minecraft into every baby that is born! *2 More years later* *Baby is born* Mother: Hey, can't he throw up Minecraft and Minecraft 2 up whenever he's bored? Doctor: Yes! *12 years later* By that point Minecraft 3 is released* Kid: I'm bored. DAD! Can we get Minecraft 3 for the BoxX 2056? Dad: Yeah son, one sec. *gets game* I'm still bored. I know I can throw up Minecraft and Minecraft 2! *throws them up* Now I have the complete set!
And everything Minecraft-related is now mainstream. *23 years later* I die and everyone thanks me for making minecraft mainstream again.
I see minecraft with... all the biomes becoming swamp, generated structures becoming extremely common, all generated structures except for one removed, all mobs except for one removed, and, despite the community screaming they hate them, WITCHES RULING MINECRAFT!!!(/sarcasm)
I see me inside of the game, like inside the computer. Technoiligy is coming so far, but we might not make it because of someone... *Nudges head at government*

Minor dupstep... Doomsday. DUBWUBWUBWUB, WUBDUBDUBDUB, DUMDUMUMDUM, WUBWUBWUBWUB!
I see it growing it similar to GMOD where you see mods being put into the actual game. The massive amount of creativity that you can have though will keep it around for a long time.
The company will no longer be Mojang, but just Minecraft or Craft or something. It will also have toy mobs and a version for every console, mainly Kinect and 3DS. In scientific terms, it will be awesomeface.
i see minecraft being re-written in html5, having significant amounts of game modes that change the feel of minecraft and how it's played, a proper ocean biome, and continued promises of a modding api
I can't really tell. In my mind there are four outcomes.
1) Minecraft falls in to ruin from bad updates and general glitchiness. Nobody cares about it except for those who wish for the days of alpha/1.7.3/1.4/the most recent good update.
2) Minecraft does well, but another game based off of Minecraft is better and nearly everyone migrates to it except for the fanboys.
3) Mojang begins to ignore it for whatever reason and starts to work on another game. The Minecraft source code is released.
4) Minecraft thrives and is known as one of the best games in the world.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
In 5 years, Minecraft will still be on my computer. As long as java still works with it, I will continue to play it, even after the developers have stopped or the Minecraft fad has worn off.
Infinite possibility in an infinite world appeals to a lot of people though. I think Minecraft will be around for quite a while.
