I don't know why everybody is so against greifing. It's part of the fun of public servers. If you don't hide or protect your stuff, you lose it, just like in real life. If your going to play on a no rules server, then greifing is going to happen, it's not a big surprise. I don't greif personally, but it's fun hiding my stuff from greifers.
It might be fun to you, but many people who have really good things don't want it stolen. If it is a public server, then just hide your stuff better. But many people still hate the fact that someone would pretty much rob their house for their stuff then burn it to the ground.

Dear Internet, I don't mean to sound slutty, but you can use me whenever you want. -Sincerely, Grammar.
ONLY if you know each other (and are okay with it).
I do it to my brother and he does it to me so i whipp out some traps he dies i nab his tnt i blow up his stuff.
so i only do it on my server or to people who i know (and if it's allowed on the server)
With friends it's griefing all the time, but the good-sported griefing kind. Like flooding the house or things that won't cause and extensive damage.
I don't think griefing is part of the fun on public servers, as in minecraft, you just need an pickaxe to torn apart a 1m thick wall, when in real life it would take some explosives, or a ****-ton of time.
Except when it's with a friend, and he's okay with it and you should let him grief too. Just griefing him and getting mad when he destroys your workbench when you where crafting something isn't fair :tongue.gif:
I've only ever played on servers with friends, so I can't say I've ever seen much in the way of griefing. Closest we ever got was one guy was building some weird pit in our town and didn't cover it.... so another guy covered it with obsidian.
I have always liked the idea of hidden homes and bunkers, hiding your chests, etc. But the only problem is no one is going to want to build anything all that nice if it's just going to get ruined.
I say a "grief war" can be fun, but only if all the players on the server are not only okay with it, but join in too.
HOWEVER, when you have some 12 year old running around just breaking blocks and placing tnt randomly, and the chat is promptly spammed with ban requests, it's just plain stupid and annoying. Not everyone plays Minecraft for PvP.
It depends entirely upon how the server is being played. On war, faction, and pure survival servers it's a lovely challenge so long as the griefers can stay classy rather than hacking or spamming. On building servers, roleplay servers, and general clan servers however, it gets old and annoying fast.

IMO griefing doesn't seem to be about rich man poor man. It's 2 different groups:
1. Random little kid is bored, finds or steals tnt or lava, impulse control issue.
2. Problem person on a server. This could be someone who is super anal and prissy about everything, making everyone want to grief him, or it could be a system griefer/clan griefer.
Eh, griefing is only fun when it is your own sculptures/houses not being tore down. I am alright with griefing so long as my server is hacker proof, people don't wreck stuff, and my friends are the ones doing the destroying. :smile.gif:
My opinion is that griefing is DEFINITELY not part of Minecraft and never will be. Think: Minecraft was made for building, not destroying. And the only one who ever gets something out of griefing is the griefer, because he gets banned. Yes, you should hide your stuff better in the first place, but it's not like you can press a key and a mansion appears in front of you. It's a good thing we have admins and mods, but people just don't get it. They just grief and grief and grief.
Griefers, before you grief anyone (whether it's blowing up someone's garden or opening any chests) please think about how you would feel if you were griefed and how this person would feel if he was griefed. It doesn't make anyone feel good- not even the griefers. Thanks for reading this post, and I don't mean to offend or hurt anyone's feelings. Again, this is just my opinion.
Oh, yeah. Please don't grief for revenge. It only makes the situation worse.

Griefing isn't limited to "no rules" servers.
That makes is bad and the people who do it are cowards hiding behind the anonymity of their computer screen.
