I have been reading all over the place that Notch has lost interest in Minecraft and is going to work on other games that "suit his interest" at the time. I am really becoming upset about this. I mean, don't know if you noticed, but there are threads popping up all over the place on different forums. Here is a good example.
Some people have asked me why we don't hire a lot more programmers to work on Minecraft. The answer is that I think that would be an incredibly bad thing to do..
I could argue back and forth forever, but what I really want to do as a developer, is to work on games in tiny, tiny teams. It means less compromise when it comes to design. It means more freedom when it comes to implementation.
At the moment, I am working on a bigger version of my Ludum Dare 22 entry, because I really liked working in that code base. In the relatively near future, I expect to start work on a new, bigger game. I will be the only programmer on that game until the game mechanics are fleshed out and the tone is set. I do feel an enormous pressure to live up to the Minecraft legacy, but I will try not to let that hold me back. I will keep focusing on just making games I want to play. http://notch.tumblr.com/
Terrain becoming worse and worse (I TOTALLY agree with these statements)
The Minecraft fans seem less and less content...
DID THE TERRAIN BECOME BORING?
Yes (please state why) (793 votes [74.18%])
No (please state why) (276 votes [25.82%])
Minecraft wont die, its a fun game to play. and even if it does Notch will come op with an even bigger and better game imo cobalt and the other few games he made looked incredibly boring but hopefully it will be something relative to MC but then again Minecraft isnt dying nor will in for a long time
Notch is still involved in Minecraft, he just handed the lead over to Jeb so he can focus on expanding Minicraft and other things that interest him.
He was never planning on having a huge team of coders working on it, and I agree with his reasons for not doing that. Terrain generation is being worked on, and has improved a great deal in the last update. The mod api and better AI are just the top priority right now, and rightly so I think.
When it's an indie company, you shouldn't expect a big group of programmers. What they've been able to do with such a small team is frankly amazing.
Like people have said above, Notch is still around.
And even if Mojang were to abandon Minecraft (positive they wouldn't, their fan base is so loyal), someone else would gladly come along and start running the show if it meant they could bring this incredibly popular game to people :laugh.gif:
Don't worry about it, go build a giant statue of Notch out of wool. It'll make you feel better.:iapprove::iapprove:

Dude notch made a game that got about 5,000,000 copys sold in the first year... He isn't going to let minecraft go away. Think about it. If minecraft goes, Then mojang will be over. Minecaft is what is keeping mojang alive.
Old. ****ing. news.
Notch left and now we have an infinitely better person working on it who is solving all of the problems we have ever had in a blazing light of programming glory ^^
Also I don't see the issue with him not wanting to hire more devs . . . they eat up company funds a fair bit . . . and he's already hired like four new developers anyway [Yes i'm not lying. At least three. There's the economics manager girl, Jon, and some other guy I forget the name of. Also I think they hired the guy working on CubeWorld. But that might be the guy who I forget the name of] so . . .
For the most part, minecraft is finished. Minecraft will most likely stay almost nearly the same for quite some time. Jeb will (hopefully) continue to update, but the updates will probably be nothing that changes the core gameplay to a large extent. For instance, I doubt we will see another update to the magnitude of Alpha 1.2 (Halloween update) or Beta 1.8 (adventure update). What we have now is probably what we will continue to have.
To be honest, I'm happy with what minecraft has become. Minecraft has come a long way from where it started. Minecraft has offered to me plenty of hours of fun, and most likely has hundreds more left. It's the kind of game that you can never win. There's always something new to do.
While minecraft is no longer being made by Notch, that will not cause minecraft to suffer. If things seem to be getting worse, it just means that you're (most likely) getting bored of it. No big deal. Take a break, and start playing later. It will feel a lot more fresh to you.
That said, I would REALLY like to see Notch come back at some point and make some expansions to minecraft. At some point, I'd like to see adventure mode become a reality. I suppose we can only wait and see what the future holds.

I hope notch reads this, LOL
If Minecraft development dies or they keep on updating it with crap (no offence) it will really **** me off.
The devs are talented, but I think they need to start listening to the users (us).
That news always breaks my heart. :sad.gif:
Terrain generation is alot more exiting in 1.1
If I helped, Why not Give a (+)
Yeah, I noticed it has got a lot better, thank goodness.
