so i am going to get haters for this.
as a minecraft fan starting in alpha i would like to say after 1.7 i wasn't as delighted with the updates (1.0.0 more thatn 1.8) as i was with the rest - they were ok but i'll be honest the 1.9 / 1.0.0 i was not a fan on.
saying that i still play minecraft 1.0.0 but it feels wrong.
BUT (haters wait a second) i still love minecraft - i am NOT saying minecraft has gotton worse just different from how i thought it would turn out when it came out fully
Ps, if you a little troll kid and you want to 'dis' me for this, be my guest! I'm 28, I drive, stay up late and play with girls boobs... I doubt your words will make much difference! haha
Age does not matter. Neither does driving or having sex.
What matters is maturity. This is not mature.
Anyway to reply to the OP, It's the new world generation. It is just not, Minecrafty.
I absolutely agree with the OP. 1.7.3 was the best. After that it got too weird.
I've seen videos of the later updates with endermen, 'enchantments', etc. Garbage. I think that's what happens to a program when it starts listening to the fringe elements (the modders who love cheating and think that they can do better, and the kids here who want every feature and mob... all at once) instead of listening to the vast "silent majority" who are happily playing the game as is.
But 1.7.3 was the best (for me) for another reason. I could play it! With 1.8 on (including the final, "optimized" version), because of the new terrain generation, etc. my win laptop blue screens after about 5 minutes. My mac laptop can't run it anymore either- it really heats up (again after about 5 minutes). I haven't been able to play MC since September. One day I can play with no problem- the next day I can't. I'm not impressed.
Maybe the updated MCPE and the xbox versions will restore my confidence in MC. Until then, I'm not a happy camper.

That sucks. Maybe Jeb will fix that and turn it to a new direction. I hope so.
Quit whining because of change. We all know that minecraft was in its beta stages and there is no "mindcrafty" way. It's Mojang's game, let them do what they see fit. I see threads crying about how 1.7 wasn't "minecraft" There is no "minecraft", it's what you make it.

Honestly I'm sick of people who can't spare a second to think of an argument.
It's Mojang's game, but we play the game, we have all the rights to criticism, and it helps them if we let them know they can improve the game.
And no threads are crying, we all have logical, legit arguments, and the whiners are white knights like you.
nooope
jeb is busy with cobalt
he will just add another mooshzombie in few months
thats all
Mooshrooms were Notch's idea, not Jeb's. Much like Notch made testificates, endermen, potions, enchantments, AKA the things that make the game un-minecrafty.

i am on your side (hence the fact i started this topic)
but i can't hep but notice you like 1.7 more than 1.8 so why does you avatar pig have a snout
There is nothing wrong with people saying they preferred an earlier version of Minecraft. It doesn't make them ''whiners'', especially if they stay away from going Ad Hom on everyone who disagrees. It also doesn't mean they don't like the game anymore and should be pointed at.
I don't think anyone in this thread really whined. Opinions are what I see, and they gotta be respected.
Myself? I find that since Wolves, the development of this game has strayed away from the spirit of early Minecraft. It's still an AMAZING game, but I would have liked more block/decoration options since what I like to do best is build stuff. You know, instead of Wolves which I think are little more than useless fluff introduced to sell the game better to Gaia Online-type players. I really think the focus should be on putting out new block types and new interactions between them like pistons.

To be honest, as an very early player (before indev even) I feel insulted by people who think complaining = whining. They're completely different things. I dislike the new terrain, mobs and other things, just my opinion.
I agree minecraft got very weird in 1.8, but it is a sandbox game, and potions and enchantments give you more stuff to experiment (splash potions are good for traps) and play with, they weren't as useful as pistons, but they give you more options, like a good sandbox should.

ragnarock200: awesome, are those things with the creeper faces pistons or furnaces

Listen, when you see a "good ol' days of Minecraft" thread like this ing about aspects of newer releases, especially one that uses terms like "minecrafty" and "feel" to explain what is wrong, it is easier to just click the back button and let the thread die sooner.
Seriously. Everything that could possibly be discussed in a thread like this has already been discussed in countless other threads.
Everyone is already aware of all of the arguments of all sides, and there really is no valid discussion to be obtained by continuing involvement in threads which just regurgitate the same opinions that have been discussed for months.
Personally, I'm optimistic about Jeb being the head of Minecraft now. He's made some good additions to minecraft (such as pistons, the main part of 1.7), and I'm liking his snapshots so far.

This relates to my previous post. I feel fairly confident that with Jeb at the helm, we will see more changes that encourage clever engineering and more latitude when it comes to building. Pistons are the evidence I would bring forth to exemplify the kind of addition we can expect from him, as you did.
I feel like he will improve Minecraft in ways more appealing to me, away from flavor changes. More like the 'old' Minecraft.

It's just not the same.
Getting into some deep stuff. ;D@klrfrod hvhjewrj whatever your name is.

Right now he is. And give him some slack, Mojang's understaffed and spread thin right now. Apply if you think you can do things better.

Just my 2 cents.

This is, of course, only speculation.
