Sorry, but I'm filling up all the spaces, and thats that.
Thanks!
I will try to fit in all of that. And I love the idea of Windhaven as a capital. I was going to put a massive library somewhere...and I think Windhaven would be the perfect place.
Does that mean you plan to grief?
What are your plans for ocean biomes? Are you going to make man-made islands, make floating cities above the seas, or just leave them be?
Are you going to get help on this, or will it be a solo project? It would be cool if you got a huge server and everyone just kept expanding towards the edge

Four problems with that:
1. I don't know how to start a server.
2. The laptop that I use is currently craped itself having issues with the charger, so I can't use it. Even if I could, it says "U mad bro?" says several files don't exist every single bloody time I download ANYTHING.
3. In my house I have limited time on the laptop and am not allowed to go on any servers.
4. Theres the constant danger of greifing, getting shut down, glitches, infection, flying squids, ect..
Hrm...can't find mechanicsburg on the googles....
And as for you recommendations...*sticks fingers in ears* LALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALA----
But seriously. I really think I can do this.
Mechanicsburg is a town from the steampunk/gaslamp-fantasy webcomic "Girl Genius". It's the first thing that shows up when you google "mechanicsburg steampunk", just so you know.
Filling up an entire minecraft map from top to bottom (and to nether) with cityscape is no small undertaking. You seem really confident about it, but I'm not sure how you're going to do this solo, and with only limited computer usage. It's taken me months to get even a fraction of my adventure map done. I'm not sure how this can be done in any reasonable time frame, not to mention you'll probably get bored with it after a while. Also, how do you define which city is which? It sounds like you want to cover everything, so I guess you'd need walls or borders or something?
I think you should take a step back and think about what you *really* want to do. A single city; definitely feasible! Several cities; time consuming, but still do-able with enough patience, and outside help is always great. The likes of Trantor or Coruscant or any concept of world-city... yeah.
You should also be posting pictures- this *is* a screenshots thread, after all. Fanfare and building up hype is always fun, but it's hard to keep interested when this is all idea and no substance. How about you show us some pictures of Gasglow, which is apparently in development right now?

Yeah, this project seems like a lot of work (MAJOR understatement), esp. if your doing all by yourself. I suppose you could have people post their creations with a download link on here and you could MCedit it into the world. That would probably be your best option.
By the way, how 'bout naming one of your cities Stormhaven? I played this game a while ago and it came to mind because it was pretty much steampunk tower defense. And the city could be shaped like a large cone, with different levels, like Minas Tirith from lord of the ring. Maybe it could be a major mining city, with mine shafts down into the Earth.
PS. My friend and I have a server. Am I missing out on the flying squids? haha

I saw Girl Genius when I was looking around the library...I thought it was a girl comic :huh.gif: I'll try getting it out next time I see it...
Anyways, I feel really confident about this. Never underestimate a stubborn Cantabrian :laugh.gif: (Cantabrians are people who live in Canterbury, New Zealand). As said before, I have a gut feeling I can do this.
Also, all the screenshots I have so far are sitting on the laptop, which is currently having disagreements with the charger. So I will get them up once they are finished.

I know, right?
Stormhaven sounds cool..I could make it a secret, forgotten sister city of Windhaven that has been befallen be a terrible advent...or..something.. :dry.gif:
And the flying squid thing was a joke .
I love this idea, and I wish you all the best luck. I'm going to bookmark this, and will probably give you ideas from time to time.
I will say this though, Take it one step at a time. Make an incredibly well detailed part, and then move onto the next. A beautiful but small world will be better than a huge but ugly one.
Maybe you could make an underground city like in the Movie: City of Ember
Meh.....no. I was planning to have most of Stormhaven buried underground but then I took an arrow to the knee so another underground city just wouldn't fit.Looking for a lore writer...anyone interested?
If most of stormhaven was underground, then maybe it would be cool to be the mining capital of the world until the "accident" and its ran over by zombies and other things (it would be awesome for a storyline)

Hrmm....no. I've decided Gasglow is going to be my mining capital.
Wow this project is amazing. However, building all the way to where the farlands used to be is pretty much impossible. The file will become so large that your computer will quite simply run out if memory before you get there, if you do it legitimately, which you say you plan to.
I am not trying to rain on your parade, but I think you really need a reality check. According to the wiki (need verification) minecraft's "infinite map" is really only useable within 32 MILLION blocks of the spawn. That means the world is 2.8 QUADRILLION (2,800,000,000,000,000) blocks or 28 TRILLION kilometers squared. Now the EARTH'S surface area is only 510 MILLION kilometers squared, so the minecraft world is 5 MILLION times bigger than earth!!!!! Putting that into chunks it is 11 TRILLION chunks. So if you only spent one second working on each chunk it would still take 180 BILLION hours to cover the whole world. And now if you had a 4 million people playing minecraft working on it, each person would have to spend 45000 hours, or 5 YEARS working in it non stop.
So moral of the story is, give yourself a reachable goal. Find a seed with a good big island and colonize that. You could still even try to do the whole map if you really want to, you just won't be able to do it, period.

I said it once, I'll say it again: I. DON'T. CARE.
I am determined to get this done. Very. It may take years, but it will be completed. THIS I SWEAR!!
The train system obviously has to be raised above ground and lit up, on a massive viaduct. Bonus for building a road connected underneath it and making it run through the middle of cities with raised stations connecting to airports for balloons and similar.
The current ones are on viaducts...
Just wait and see...

Just curious...

Hrm...I dunno. I guess floating cities would be the logical option.
.....or....
Did somebody say...
RAPTURE!!??
....no? No-one said it? Alright, I'll say it..
RAPTURE!!!!
I would use it, but I can't for some reason..

Already in progress. Gasglow currently has an airship port, with Metroblimp's, which are my steampunk version of buses.
I would use it, but I can't for some reason..
