Yet another comment to add to the collection...
Look, if your gonna get all up in my face, just FARK OFF! go find another topic! Look, I am doing the goddamn map, and you and the many, many, MANY other people can't stop me! I have set myself a goal and I intend to complete it. End of story. Bye bye.
We aren't trying to stop you, we are simply trying to get you realize that what you are doing is IMPOSSIBLE for soooooooo many reasons. You had problems getting your laptop charged, well as G'orzak pointed out, be ready to buy hundreds more computers to hold the hundreds of thousands of terabits needed to store the entire map. And I have already mentioned the centuries it would take nonstop to complete it. Like I said we are not trying to stop you, we aren't even trying to make you look stupid, you are making yourself look stupid my blatantly denying facts with "i will do it". Either admit it now or in 6 months when you have one city done with trillions more to go.
I'm sorry to be so blunt, but Jesus ****ing Christ, I cannot even begin to describe how impossible this is. The fact that you're doing it yourself just makes it even more ludicrous. I'm not going explain why it would take longer than you will live, because others have already covered that. But even if the time weren't a problem, there's another issue.
I play on a server that's 11 months old, and the farthest anyone has built their home is around 300k from spawn. Now, lets say that the generated chunks in the world comprise about 10% of the area within 300k from spawn, which is generous. That is around four million times smaller than the entire map. Still, the server's map size is currently 72.3 GIGABYTES. I'm not even going to bother figuring out how many millions of gigabytes of hard disc space you would need to carry out this absurd plan. But rest assured, it's a lot. I very much doubt that your parents will pay for a server farm to be installed in their house.
However, I offer another, easier solution; program a new map generation algorithm which generates steampunk stuff. And even if you don't know java, learning a programming language is faster than placing blocks for ten billion lifetimes.
Wow....just...wow....
Yeah, screw you, too, Mr. Troll. (And I'm actually a student programmer, interestingly)
It's this dude's birthday....*Checks watch*...It was this dude's birthday when you said this, you really didn't have to be a ****, and troll his hobby.
YEAH, it's difficult, we get it, but my word, you don't have to call him a 'retard'.
I hate people like you, that not only use the word 'retard' as an insult, but who spit on people's dreams because their dreams are improbable.
You wanna know something? I'm HORRIBLE at math, I barely got through school by the skin on my teeth because of my horrible math skills...yet I am learning to program as we speak! And ya know what!? I'm not doing too bad at it! Sure, I make a lot of mistakes, but one step at a time, I am slowly learning to program. I am going to do it for a living. Sure, I could just curl up, and take some mediocre job that doesn't require any math, but why would I sit behind a counter asking people if "They'd like fries with that?" when I could put forth all the effort I can muster for greater rewards, and something I feel satisfied spending my time doing?
I say shame on you for attacking this person's dream! Even if you don't believe he can do it, you don't have to open your mouth, and attack him, much less do so in such a rude fashion!
Sure, filling an entire Minecraft World is going to be harsh, sure it'll have little to no rewards...But when someone sets their mind to something, when there is true iron will, I really believe there is always a way.
City Name: New Lindblum (Final Fantasy IX reference FTW, but you can change the name, if you please)
Quick Description: A former medieval city, that has recently developed a famous model of airship, and developed an early democracy within it's small kingdom.
Full Description: In the giant city of New Lindblum, there are three districts. Each district has two layers.
There's the Business District, which also holds one of the entrances to the city. On the lower layer, there are a lot of shops that sell common household items, and groceries. For centuries, this location has been world renowned for it's fine produce, and sense of small town community, and friendliness in such a large location, filled with hundreds of people. There is no upper layer on this district, but several buildings are rather tall, such as two story houses, and inns.
There's the industrial district, which has factories, and mines working hard to produce materials to craft/build with. There is an upper layer, covered in shops that sell raw materials, and other things the working locations below are doing. The upper layer's buildings are all on the top of towers spread sparingly through the district (i.e., the meat of the district is the stuff below) And connected by bridges.
There are three notable monuments, and land marks near, and in the industrial district, one is a small airship, that's about the size of a hot air balloon, and held on the lower layer, on a special platform. There is a sign near the tiny vessel that reads: "This ship is all that's left of Aeris Brittania's (Or however you spell it...) first take to the skies, and is a major relic. R.I.P. to those in the fleet that did not survive." (The rest in the fleet ran out of fuel, mid-flight)
The second, is a small sculpture in the upper layer that reads: "This statue commemorates the end of the 7 Year War New Lindblum fought with the infamous Dragule military."
And the last landmark, is a floating airship, just outside the huge city, that is easily visible from the industrial district, this airship is combat ready, and flies 24/7 near New Lindblum, as it's guardian, it is only able to fly 24/7, because it does not use coal, like most airships, it is fueled by Enderpearls. An experimental fuel that has broken out a top secret experiment....So far, this warship, 'The Dreadnought' is the only ship able to fly on Enderpearl magic...
The last public district, is the Theater District, just like in Final Fantasy IX (I'll explain more on this later in the post) It's also the smallest, holding just one large theater, and a clocktower. (Not intended to be functional, simply for decoration)
Then, there's the gigantic Castle in the middle, Castle Lindblum. The upper layer is a mansion, where the leader of New Lindblum gets to live, with a royal army.
The mid layer is essentially an airship port/train station. One half is an indoor airship dock, that currently doesn't hold anything.
The other half is outdoors, and open to the public, it holds a lot of dispensers filled with minecarts, has a railway leading to each of the districts, and one railway that leads out of the city, and into the grand train system that runs through the world. (Assuming the train system uses minecarts)
The lower layer, takes you below ground, and is split into three areas.
One leads you through an underground tunnel...To the abandoned underground city, "Dragule: Realm of The Mole People"
One tunnel leads to an open space, where the public isn't allowed in, where scholars, and alchemists are hard at work perfecting the Ender powered airship.
And the last tunnel takes you above ground, and out of the city.
Why Am I taking from FFIX?: Well, I'm not. When I think steampunk, I think of Lindblum, because it's from my favorite video game. The Lindblum in that game is still a middle ages themed place. The one I imagine has the same shape, and similar atmosphere, but with a colonial times atmosphere, try to imagine a colony village from the days of the pilgrims, but HUGE, and with Steampunk technology. The only reason I'm using Lindblum as a foundation for the idea...well, I like Lindblum. And wouldn't mind seeing something with a similar sense of atmosphere in this project, but you don't have to take the idea if you don't like it.
City Suggestion: Dragule: Realm of The Mole People
Description: A small village not TOO far away from New Lindblum (Or if you don't like New Lindblum, but you like this, it can be near whatever place you like) It is obviously underground, it has a handful of shops, a handful of houses, a military base, and a city hall.
A notable landmark is the town square of the town, that has lava instead of water. It's also got a tunnel connected to a major city it once had a war with. (By default this is New Lindblum)
The city is now abandoned, and in ruins, as the mole people have all either died off, or assimilated with other kingdoms.
(If you can manage to get this place in, or near an underground ravine, it'd be awesome, but it's not necessary)
City Suggestion: Holy Lands: Aetherdale
Holy Lands: Aetherdale (Or Aetherdale, for short...) is a snowy little town that loves Christmas time, and has a notable landmark in it's town square: A year-round Christmas tree, that is very large, and decorated with Glowstone. There is a cathedral in Aetherdale, that revolves around Notch. But, the people of Aetherdale are jolly, and accepting, so their priests can also serve those who prefer Jeb. (I didn't want to make a town that revolves around a real religion, or a serious sounding one, just so this project doesn't offend anyone, but you can change this if you like.)
There are shops in Aetherdale, but they don't take currency, all you have to do is donate once to the Cathedral/Church, and you can take all you want from the shops, as you are 'family' around Aetherdale.
A notable shop in Aetherdale, is a potion shop that only sells potions of healing, and glowstone dust. It is called "7th Heaven".
Aetherdale needs to be in a snow biome.
Another notable location in Aetherdale is a Well that you can climb down. The well leads to a tunnel, and the tunnel leads to an underground graveyard. Light is provided by a candle (Torch) on top of every tombstone. You can rob the graves for whatever item you choose to use as currency, but if you do, you will be shunned by Aetherdale's people, and can't take from the shops, even if you donate to the church again. (This is just lore, to add flavor, people can do whatever they want, unless you add mods to the map, or something.)
This is all I have for now, and yes, I take the name Aetherdale from Aether, which as most of us know was a mod that adds the 'opposite' of The Nether, also known as Hell, making The Aether 'Heaven' for Minecraft, and thus, Holy Lands: Aetherdale.
I'll try, and make some Nether themed towns next, especially after Aetherdale, we're gonna need a Netherville now.
It is possible, but this will take over two centuries.
Fool...
Using creative mode, I built a gigantic castle, that's roughly (And I'm guessing here) 150 X 300 blocks, counting the courtyards. It took me about 4, and a half hours. I have no idea about variables, such as food/bathroom breaks, to bigger variables such as having a job, or school to deal with, but your certainly over doing the hyperbole.
(I really need to stop wasting my breath on these trolls...They aren't worth the effort)
Things I love about your idea:
1. It's STEAMPUNK.
2. It will be the entire world.
3. You are going to do it for as long as it takes, and will not care.
4. WE GET PICTURES!!!
Dude, this is going to be awesome, I can already feel it!
This was in maps, but it got moved to discussion after so many people said what you and many others said...and I quote..
"impossible". Not enough map, to much discussion.

That's a lot of ideas you had there (would be a shame if anything where to happen to it...sssSSS--....sorry)
I'll try to add all of them.
Also, thanks for defending me from the trolls. You sir, are awesome.

Implying there's low difference between 32,000,000,000 and 45,000 (150x300).
However,
This map is possible, under hardcore criteria:
Before you're even halfway, you might run out of harddisk space.
You might spend a dozen years working on this.
Also, to the dumb****s talking "nobody thought the americans fought the british" and stuff like that.. How in /face of Earth/ can you compare an important battle of history with a game about placing blocks?
This was in maps, but it got moved to discussion after so many people said what you and many others said...and I quote..

Thank you sir!
Don't thank me for feeding trolls, I am wrong to do so, yet I must, because of a defect in my personality that makes me want everyone to treat everybody like decent human beings, I guess I'm just screwed up like that...
And I think you for enjoying my ideas.
I shall do my best to get more ideas for your collection as soon as possible. As I might've mentioned previously, I love making stuff up!
True, problem is this IS completely impossible. Ignoring that just makes you look stupid. I did the math to try and prove to you how immensely ridiculous this is, problem is sometimes numbers get so big you can't really imagine them anymore. 5 million earths, just try and imagine that, even if you can't. You can all try, you will just die before you cover 1% of the map. It is the truth, I wanted to avoid being mean about it but some people just ignore reality in their naive quest for the impossible.
I don't mind trying, at least it will give me something to do. Besides, people could help this project. And as for memory, I think its okay to say that by the time we need that much, someone can get some storage device. Although I won't live to see it finish, I can just have fun playing with it. That's why I'm doing this.
Hey all you haters out there. just to clear some stuff up:
I get it. This is not an easy project and we may not even finish within the next decade. It's not that important. Even if we don't finish, who cares? I'm sure it will be fun just to work on.
Avalanchetter, if you're reading this, I would suggest getting a server running so it's not a solo project.
There are ways to get lots of computer space, and as you guys said, this will take a long time to finish and If we were to look at how fast computers are improving, in the next decade, memory will probably not be a problem.
@ Denlow. First, I'd like to point out, you need to watch you're language. I'm guessing you were taught it's okay to call people "dumbf***s" and stuff but you need to be more mature. No need to say that at all. Just politely make you're point, that's all you need to do. BTW, I'm not comparing the significance of the Am. Rev. to Minecraft. It wasn't like I'm comparing there importance.
@ G'orzak Why the heck do you just call him retarded without even knowing the guy? Have you met in real life? Don't think so. Retarded actually means someone with a disorder and you don't know that. Besides, it's his birthday, so at least comment on his intelligence in a polite manner (if that is possible).
The point is, go ahead and criticize, but do it politely and with factual information to back up you're reasoning. DON'T BE A TROLL!!

PS. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO AVALANCHETTER!
That's not a bad idea, as long as we use White-Listing, because I wouldn't doubt for a second the haters on this page would attempt to grief us.
I'd say my building skills are up to snuff if you wish to enlist me, but I'll understand if you don't, Avalanchetter. (My word, your screen name is a pain to spell)

Yeah, definitely going to have to use white list if we get a server up. I already sent him a message about it
However, I offer another, easier solution; program a new map generation algorithm which generates steampunk stuff. And even if you don't know java, learning a programming language is faster than placing blocks for ten billion lifetimes.
Avalanchetter doesn't know how to code in java- otherwise, he wouldn't have a dozen topics that say, "coders needed" for all his mod ideas and other tidbits of hype.

Thank you, finally a supporter who actually understands this. As I said before I am not trying to be a hater or trying to stop you. I just want you to realize that this is impossible to actually complete. That doesn't mean you can't try. Heck I might even want to help out if I didn't have my hands full with my server. Have fun trying to make the biggest map possible but don't expect to actually ever cover the entire map. If you admit that you will probably get a lot fewer haters. It is just the posts like this that make you look arrogant and naive. :dry.gif:

I don't support you opinion of "it can't be done" but yes, it will probably take years and years but the experience is the real reward

Jabber on all you want, clearly you've never heard when there's a will, there's a way.
Gentlemen, we have a problem.
A big problem.
Every time I log on to the world, it crashes. After a few seconds, the game crashes and the screen goes black. AND I HAVEN'T EVEN FINISHED HALF OF HE CITY! I don't know what caused it, it worked fine, and all the other worlds don't crash.
Should I make a new world, a server (as suggested plenty times), or should I can the project?

Dammit! *Pounds fist on desk*
Okay, plan A, is to try, and make a White List server.
If that works, make a back-up, A.S.A.P., them give your whitelist workers copies of the backup.
Plan B...Well, that would be to start over from scratch, and that would be...a big bummer....But let's think positive for the time being!
Whatever you do...DON'T can the project! :ohmy.gif:

(I really need to stop wasting my breath on these trolls...They aren't worth the effort)
http://z13.invisionfree.com/Castle_Dragule/index.php?
1. It's STEAMPUNK.
2. It will be the entire world.
3. You are going to do it for as long as it takes, and will not care.
4. WE GET PICTURES!!!
Dude, this is going to be awesome, I can already feel it!
I SUPPORT YOU.
This was in maps, but it got moved to discussion after so many people said what you and many others said...and I quote..
"impossible". Not enough map, to much discussion.
:blink.gif:
That's a lot of ideas you had there (would be a shame if anything where to happen to it...sssSSS--....sorry)
I'll try to add all of them.
Also, thanks for defending me from the trolls. You sir, are awesome.
Thank you sir!
I would use it, but I can't for some reason..
I say.

I don't mind trying, at least it will give me something to do. Besides, people could help this project. And as for memory, I think its okay to say that by the time we need that much, someone can get some storage device. Although I won't live to see it finish, I can just have fun playing with it. That's why I'm doing this.
*Salutes*
http://z13.invisionfree.com/Castle_Dragule/index.php?
Yeah, definitely going to have to use white list if we get a server up. I already sent him a message about it
Avalanchetter doesn't know how to code in java- otherwise, he wouldn't have a dozen topics that say, "coders needed" for all his mod ideas and other tidbits of hype.
Jabber on all you want, clearly you've never heard when there's a will, there's a way.
http://z13.invisionfree.com/Castle_Dragule/index.php?
A big problem.
Every time I log on to the world, it crashes. After a few seconds, the game crashes and the screen goes black. AND I HAVEN'T EVEN FINISHED HALF OF HE CITY! I don't know what caused it, it worked fine, and all the other worlds don't crash.
Should I make a new world, a server (as suggested plenty times), or should I can the project?
I would use it, but I can't for some reason..
:ohmy.gif:
