I hope this is a very stupid, simple question, but I've been playing Minecraft for a dozen or so hours, and have died a few times in areas where recovering my items was impossible. When this happened, I had no choice but to respawn at the starting point, then start building up all resources from scratch. Isn't there a way to save your game prior to death so that if/when you die, you can load your save and still have all your items? The only option I have when I hit Escape is to "Save and quit to title".
its in %Appdata%, .minecraft, saves. Then find the name of the world you want to back up.
Awesome! I found it (level.dat), tested it, and it works! Thank you very much!
Luckily, I built my house very close to the starting point, so I never had a problem finding it after dying, but losing all my items was very frustrating and almost made me quit the game for a while. But, I'm good now!
