^^^ There were also snow deserts, but they never generated.
Yep, that's why I did not mention them. And also hell and sky, for dimensions. Hell one is used for Nether mob spawning, and sky one is used for snow only in some areas (Above 64 Y) and chicken spawning.

@Luis: Wanna know something? I could make a great post with incredible good arguments and quotes of the functions that generate Beta 1.7.3 and 1.3.2 terrain, to show that there is less variation in the generator. You will still not liking it (and ignoring it, you did not say anything more about that post), because the variables were renamed to understand the code better.
You know? You are really annoying. Seriously.
I can't force you to go, but please do. Your posts doesn't add nothing and are pure flame.
Wanna know why? Because the colors would be screwed up and snow would be everywhere.
@Jango40: Yes, is right. I would not like the pictures if they were made on 1.7.3 and then opened with a 1.3.2 client. As you said "Because the colors would be screwed up and snow would be everywhere". But I also would not like in vice-versa, from 1.3.2 1.0 (lol) to 1.7.3 (it looks horrible).
Even if you show me pictures of new generator with good terrain, will not be too much.
Guys. I have spent the time from 8:00 A.M. to right now 2:48 P.M. exploring a cave, and guess what, i saw a massive ravine with even MORE caves branching off from the ravines, i am going to try and refind everything, and im kicking myself for no screencaps, but wish me luck

~i dont run away from you....i walk slowly and it kills me that you dont care enough to stop me......You think this is truly the end hero NAH it has only just begun!
That's the key. We don't need the old 1.7.3 terrain...and I still like the current biome system....we just need variety. Interesting features. Not recycled terrain that looks the same in every world.
Unfortunately...mods probably will be the solution. Once the Modding API comes out, Jeb can just point to X Mod and say, "use it to fix your terrain."
Two things.
1. Mods are not the answer, as most people would not want to download a mod to fix the terrain, which mojang needs to do themselves.
2.Mojang also needs to stop depending on the community for the terrain and do some of the damn work themselves.

The annoying thing is they had everything nearly perfect, they even posted a screenshot of 1.7 terrain with a generated village. But yeah, they rushed something important and ended up with a half finished generator..
Exactly. And jeb_ is going to say, since we have a mod api go get a mod and fix the terrain yourself, but thats the problem, the users shouldnt have to pick up mojangs slack for them

Yep.
Though from the screenshot's point of view it's impossible to say if that church generated correctly. Other screenshots shown old village implementation, so I don't count them here.
You people keep saying that mods are not the answer. Why?
Why are YOU entitled to having the game be the way that YOU want?
I completely disagree with this thread, why am I not entitled to having the game be exactly the way I want?
Again, why, when you already possess the power to change the terrain to your liking, insist that everyone must use the terrain that YOU want?

I use the FTB modpack, because it's fun, and extremely convenient.

Already answered why mods don't count as a solution about a million times. So I will answer these 3 questions that should all have the same response:
ANSWER: The changes we're advocating for would not only allow us to obtain terrain that we favor, but terrain that everyone favors. This is because old values would be restored and so would perlin noise and other types of variety-inducing mechanisms. So yes, I would find terrain that I would want but so would you. The terrain we have now limits us to a certain array of possibilities -- an array not as wide as 1.7.3's. Therefore, the questions you just asked should be redirected to the people who don't want the terrain generation system to change, because they are the ones who insist that everyone likes the terrain they want.

Variety > No Variety
(or, more 'honestly', [A lot of Variety] > [A little Variety])
Let me just point something out to you, as well as everyone else demanding 1.7.3 terrain generation
the sort of terrain we aren't demanding,
What about the people that like 1.3.2 terrain? What about those who like the flatter terrain as it is easier for building? Stop being such hypocrites.
1.7.3 actually had lots of flat terrain, and had the potential to be at different elevations and could be flatter than current terrain. The "fact" that 1.7.3 was infested with countless mountains is a misconception.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
I had a map where I literally had to create a bunch of railroads just to build. Don't get me wrong, it looked pretty impressive when it was all finished, but it was just a pain and made the game not-so-enjoyable for a few days as I made said railroads.
A) Making flat terrain is very easy.
B )It's also very easy to move to a flatter place.
Superflat? Why should I limit myself to having flat terrain only?:S
If you REALLY want to build and need lots of flatland for it...

Dude, 1.7 had plenty of flat land. You just had to search for it. Pics of flat terrain have been posted many times. Also, the 1.7 generator is not what we want. We want a generator that takes the best things from both generators.
Wanna know why? Because the colors would be screwed up and snow would be everywhere.
You know? You are really annoying. Seriously.

I know. I made several 1.2.5 worlds trying to do it. Then I made a 1.0 world and it works. xD

Will use for OP but I'm not sure about the title. What exactly is being forced?

1) Flat terrain will not disappear.
2) Flattening an area isn't difficult
3) You can use superflat, if you so desire
There was enough flat land for building (and, as radiun said, there's superflat). There's really no reason to not change the generator.

Do I have to get a picture up of a lot of flat land to please you? It is easy to find. Just travel a bit and you will find it.

Found that by just trying random seeds. Sadly, my Minecraft is acting up now...
EDIT: All right I will be gone for a bit because of homework.
