If you don't like the current terrain then downgrade
but that doesn't fix the main problem.
i would like to have other features in my world mineshafts strongholds and all that but if i down grade i have to go to 1.7.3 beta as the maximum where those features were added in beta 1.8 there for if i load an old world type explore say it loads 500 chucks then when/if i go to a future version with that world i would have to travel a very far distance to get to something i want say 10 000 blocks to the nearest strong hold but if they could just fix the terrain then it would be good

i think we should all use common sense and logic when we answer and ask a question but always stay open minded
just cause science fails to explain something does not mean its real (afterlife, big foot, ghosts etc..) does not mean its fake try to stay opened mined instead of closed

People: Hey lets remove exploring from minecraft. The fact that you have to explore more than 200 blocks now is great

Not with the way they distributed biomes, which is why I hacked the game to make it place biomes like older versions, which should have been made optional or added to the customized world type (at the very least, by changing the size of climate zones, similar the the biome size slider; setting them to the size of 1-2 biomes will remove most of the repeating biome nonsense while keeping vastly different biomes apart from each other). Even with random biome placement it is easily possible to have to travel thousands of blocks to find a particular biome (with default biome size), and I'm not the kind of person who explores the surface just for that (my worlds are usually no more than 2,000x2,000 in explored area, in my modded worlds I've never found every biome, even in all of them put together).

i have been playing minecraft for about 4 years now gone through many worlds adn i explore at least 5 000 blocks in each way from my main base (set up out post things like that) but if i do that now i do that in my old world and have over 5 000 blocks in each way upgrade it to the new generation and then now i have to travel 5000 blocks to get to the new crap terrain then travel X many blocks to find something in a world where the terrain makes my eyes puke

It's been 2 damn years. Is this thread really active?
Anyways, the only thing that needs improving is The beaches.
Active isn't a good word for it, but you shouldn't be surprised that people are still complaining about terrain since 1.7 didn't even come close to fixing the things that make the terrain so repetitive.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

There's a customize terrain button.
Also, the OP wasn't fixed in 2 years. What happened?
Here's my problem: I see no difference between the generations in pictures. I have seen a lot of what you label as Beta 1.7 in Release 1.8.
I have (frequently) seen smooth beaches. I have (frequently) seen significant elevation variations in biomes. I have, admittedly, not seen significant variation in cave size, but I don't really care about that.
Either I'm blind, you're not illustrating your point well enough, or you're blind. Perhaps I'll play Beta 1.7 for a while to try and see what you're seeing.

uh that's a joke right? there is nothing even comparable compared to beta 1.7 terrain to 1.8 terrain. now you said you have "(frequently) seen elevation in variations of biomes" which is cool but what are talking like a 30 block increase or a 20? 10? cause i do know in beta 1,7 it was common to walk in a forest and to find a mountain that would reach the world height limit. but here are two picutes that i found that maybe should help you see the OP point (again maybe) (edit the top is the classic glacier seed the bottom is some random hilly terrain in 1.8 i think)

The Terrain is kinda boring in some places but I like the very Tall Mountains in the Savannah Biomes, They can get nearly as tall as the Height limit which is really cool.
It's a huge step in the right direction, but it also isn't the most intuitive, nor does it address all the concerns that users have posted here over the years.

I don't know. That's part of my problem. I see no differences in pictures people show me. Honestly, I really will try Beta 1.7 and see for myself, and then report back.
What are the differences between those two pictures that you are trying to make me see? What would be different from one to the next?

maybe it just me and a few others but i find the color a big deal i find the terrain of today very bland and not the best where as terrain of past had a very lush feel to it, so there's one aspect but the bigger one for me is the fact that in today's terrain once you see one mountain it feels like every other one is the same maybe its me but they feel all the same just a little change here and here and its the same but back in beta it felt that every mountain was different i mean i never had 2 mountains the felt the same back in the day but now a days it feels all the same but hey that's just me

I don't know what the deal with mountains is. Mountains today don't feel the same to me. I apologize that I don't have something more conclusive to say, as I was busy and forgot to play.
The lushness can just be solved with a texture pack.
sorry but i dont think that the terrain become boring because it can be customized. and the word presets are so cool you can find some presets at the worldpreset.com Giant( long) caves are so cool for explore. Anyway this is my opinion
beaches are not that beautiful thing but they are still decent

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
