I don't hate her or or criticize her appearance or any of that. I just think she did a really, really bad job as the MC of the Minecon keynote. Her performance was shrill, nervous and amateurish, and the stage production values looked like a High-School pep rally, not a Vegas-style convention and product kick-off produced by a multimillion-dollar company.
Supposedly she took the job of planning and running Minecon with no experience at all in that level of event planning, and the reviews haven't been kind. That's kind of cruel for Notch to do that to someone, despite their level of enthusiasm. It's a recipe for failure.
I'm sure she's a wonderful person, just in way over her head in both roles. Don't hate her for that, she probably learned more (the hard way) about event planning and public speaking than she ever expected.
Hopefully Notch learned that you don't hire people for mission critical positions because they are your friends, you hire them based on competence and experience.
Not so much hating her but her attitude. I'm in agreement about the whole "attention whoring" thing as I'm annoyed at how she feels the need to have her face in her videos at all times. If a guy did that, I would accuse him of attention whoring too.

There was nothing 'mission critical' about it or her performance. And actually, she did a wonderful job getting everything together and making sure things off-stage stayed glued together. But she was actually thrown into the proving grounds three or four conventions ago (GDC? SD Comic Con, PAX and the gaming awards ceremony just before MineCon). This was not her first, this was just the first one where she appeared on stage, and was broad casted.
Considering that a large part of the population of the Minecon audience were children (and their parents), a pep-rally atmosphere wasn't that bad. =)
Well, after watching the video Koockaburra101 linked, I can honestly say I have reasons to dislike her on top of my first impressions.
1. Not at all the LP style I like. Less editing/talking with no gameplay going on, more actual playing. And her being on screen all the time is very distracting. I came to watch an LP of a game, not you making faces.
2. Her personality is very, very bland. I got nothing out of her that seemed like she was really interested in playing the game. She seems like any other girl trying too hard to be in the gaming world, without actually playing many games or being a real game fan.
3. I hate pink even more thanks to her (which I didn't think was possible). Dear God, it's EVERYWHERE with her. I need to start an LP or something, just so I can use nothing but blue (my favorite color) to counteract it. Why must girls always overly use pink?
So, yeah. I definitely dislike her now and never intend to watch another video with her in it, or I'll skip her if I have to. I'll have to, so I can hear CaptainSparklez in the opening ceremony, I think it was?
Again, all my opinion, all just my thinking, no one has to agree. I'm not the type to go trolling her videos, but she does not have a fan in me.
It is true. You are 100% correct. We are free to run away from or towards stereotypes.
But I hope that people choose to be authentic. If who you really are is a girly girl with pink hair who plays minecraft, then who am I to say that's wrong? My point int his thread has been to say that I don't feel that is who Lydia is. She's more than a "she", a "chick". She's got some chops and should dare to be MinecraftLydia!
WTF did I just read!?! People are trying to get this guy arrested and fined JUST because he happens to fit some archaic stereotype?
I think primarily the reason she's been poked at isn't because of her, but primarily because people look for drama every chance they get. Take the Minecraft Forums for example...
None of the reasons I've seen or heard about hating her make sense, or is a valid reason.
"I don't like her because she sucks at talking"
REALLY? Just because she's not a great speaker doesn't give you a reason to hate on her. She has done nothing wrong, AT ALL, to anyone. All she's done is help people, and welcome everyone. She's the one who organized MineCon. She's one of the nicest people I've heard of.
I didn't even know about this girl until the whole Notch vs YogsCast thing started.. So yeah, i actually do hate her. Why you ask? Well, she was picked to set up minecon and she did a horrible, last minute, kind of thing with the event. Mostly because she's a female nonpopular gamer who got into Mojang simply due to her Gender. Look at Yogscast, Seananners, and a ton of other famous minecraft players who helped Mojang sell their game due to their videos, they never go invited to the company, did they?
Haters are normally just jealous of the person they are hating, welcome to the internet
This is very trite, strawman reasoning. One of the worst reasons people can offer up for "hate" is the whole "you are just jealous of how awesome I am" response. It's classic strawman reasoning.. setting up your opponents motivations and position for them so you can easily knock it down and feel smart.
As I said, it's very trite and simplistic. It allows one to completely avoid any discussion of the real reasons or motivations people have for not liking her.. just muddying the waters by calling them haters and jealous.
It's as intellectually dishonest as playing the race card.. or playing class warfare between groups. Or when people say things like "other countries only hate America because they are jealous of our success!". It's such a weak argument.
After reading yogscast's statements about how the event was managed, and actually watching some of her videos (didn't see the minecon opening), my option is, WTF was notch/mojang thinking when they handled the event planning to her? Does notch/mojang have any common sense? I mean, I don't hate her. She's an ok person. But it doesn't look like she has any experience with something this big. And thus why we have this shitstorm right now. And I may see why others may hate her.

Agreed. While watching the livestreams of the convention, I was quite embarrassed for her.
-She's annoying
-She has videos of her face for 8 minutes, 1 minute of actual of Minecraft play
-She's frumpy, shaped like a pear
-She's 27 and acts like she 17
-50 other people deserved her position
-She has no talent, and isn't funny
I'm not saying your other criticisms are good (clearly her management skills are poor and there were more qualified people), but really? You attack how she LOOKS? What a petty, mean-spirited, and immature thing to do. It has nothing to do with her qualifications or ability to do her job.
Probably because of how much she craves for attention.
Seriously.
"MinecraftChick"
"hey guyz im a gurl gaemer GIVE ME ATTENTION PLEASE"
So people probably didn't like her that much before Mojang decided to hire her for... whatever reason.
Then people got pissed.
You know, although it's purely speculative some people have wondered if she had a hand in starting the Yogscast **** talk. Looking at this girl's LP videos she has to have her face on screen at all times. It's not even like she's hosting a clip show or doing a review, and even when people do that they leave their faces off the game footage. It's like she thinks people want to watch her giggle and mug for the camera. It's a sure sign of someone who is really, really full of themself.
I could easily see a girl like this while under immense stress feeling like she's been overlooked for her hard work on Minecon and becoming upset no one knows who she is while there were other more well-known Youtube Minecraft LPers around.

What kind of twisted BS is this?
The Onion is a fake news site -- that article was meant to be humerous, in the Onion sort of way.
