For example: pistons.
We make it of cobblestone and wooden planks.Cobblestone blast r. - 30
Wooden planks blast r. - 15
(15 +30):2=22.5
Piston's blast r. must be 22.5, but it is 2.5!!!
It is not realistic!
If you persist on that though, lets look at it this way.
A piston is made up of iron and planks, for it to function, it has movable parts and space between its inner mechanism. Thus, it is not a fully dense block and its block resistance can't be calculated in that manner.

Hello, I don't usually follow threads that I post in. So if you would like to have a civilized chat / reply / argument that is of the utmost importance, just PM me. =)
I can understand why pistons would have low resistances- they're probably quite fragile. However, I don't understand why Iron Doors and (particularly) Iron Bars are so flimsy.
Alright, it is so fragile because those who want to build something with pistons can destroy it with hand.
It is not realistic but cool.
p.s. srry for bad English.
Certainly, the explosion could probably attack the weak part of the piston -- the pushing arm. A good explosion would probably snap that thing in at least one position, and considering that Minecraft can't represent block damage, just blowing it up like usual works too, heh.
Though it would be more interesting if a packed piston was a bit more explosion-resistant, as I would presume there's still a little bit of safety from all that stone.
