No. People are getting legal issues mixed in with moral values. That is the problem.
Though I don't know all of the details spread across the whole world, generally speaking at least when it comes to the US, if you take something that you haven't paid for, it is theft. You are breaking a law. That is not up for debate.
Whether or not you believe it is a bad thing, whether you are doing the right thing, and so on are all part of your own moral values. Personally I'm against pirating entirely. I think it does speak about you. It means you're generally irresponsible or impatient, depending upon the situation. If I had to choose between befriending a rapist and a pirate, I'd definitely choose the latter, but both are 'bad' in my eyes.
Really though? My view doesn't matter. Even if I did support piracy, it's still illegal. It is still stealing.
the way i see it is the same as notch and many of my friends is that its ok to get cracked games of any thing if you have bought it before or you are planning on buying it but just want to see what it is first i know that its stealing but you are going to pay for it just sooner then later.
anyways for those who cant buy the game for whatever reason, you can still play the pc gamer demo. thats what i did for those few weeks when i couldnt purchase an account. and before you start having a whine at me that you only have 90 minutes of play time on the demo, chill out. theres an insanely simple way to get unlimited time on the demo.
Play Classic if you can't afford it. If you can, you have no excuse to pirate it, and you're stealing from Notch. How would you feel if you put hard work and effort into making something you love, and offering it to the public for a very modest price, and then discovering that MANY people steal it?
Trying to justify using a cracked version of Minecraft because you can't afford it -- as most others on this topic have pointed out -- is stealing, plain and simple. There are plenty of freeware games on the Internet, as well as games for less that $5 on Steam.
Heck, there is even Minecraft classic, which is still available to play for free.
I cracked Minecraft, and honestly I dont care what you guys say.
Like a previous poster, its like a demo/sample, its the full game just cut down allot (no online/Skin/ect) now thats still pretty full, you can play just fine of singleplayer. I did buy it a few (2-3) months after trying it out (I didnt play all the time just now and then)
While I do agree that Pirating/Cracking is wrong, and shouldnt be done. We all do it, or most of us, by mistake or on purpose. I say who ever cracked Minecraft to try it, go ahead, just pay for it when you can (like right when you can, or allowed too)
I had the money to buy it, but I need to be sure I actually wanted it, with no regrets. Some people could have the money, but lets say their parents are incharge of it (Kinda dumb, but true)
Its stealing, and wrong. But hey just buy it when you can.
Accept it, you're stealing. Stop trying to justify it and just admit it, you are stealing.
Can't afford $20 for a game?
Then bad luck you don't get to play
I can't afford the Delorean remake getting re-released next year, so your suggesting I should steal one form the manufacturer? I can't afford it so what I'm doing isn't wrong I wanted it.
Parents think its a waste of money to pay this much for a game?
Then buy it with your own money, don't have the money? see previous answer.
3.)Some people don't have internet at their house, and cannot play?
This one makes no sense... I own it legally and can play it on multiple computers (not at once, well I could but I don't need to). If someone cannot play it why buy/pirate it...
I'm not going to argue on the validity of piracy, you can do whatever you want, but don't tell some sop story and trying to justify what your doing and claim what your/others are doing isn't wrong. Hell you admit that you could buy minecraft with 1/4 of one weeks income but instead you choose to continue pirating.
Pirating is not stealing, stealing would be taking a physical object so the two cannot be related like your trying to do. Pirating is taking a digital object you don't own, in which turn the devs don't lose money for either way. Where as if you steal a car, that is a lost profit as it has to be rebuilt or repurchased/etc. A pirate will be a pirate, take that away and they are not going to buy the game regardless. So the developer neither loses nor gains money because of piracy, though if they take time and money to add protection to the game against said pirates then they are only losing money and time as either way it will be cracked eventually by those that would not buy it. You could say I am trying to justify it, however I am not at all as I bought the game :tongue.gif:. I am simply stating a fact.
This is not just targeted at your quote, but everyone saying its "stealing."
The lengths people go to to justify bad behavior is staggering..
1) Digital and physical products cost money to develop and bring to market.
2) They are both sold for money to recover that cost and make a profit.
3) Taking either product without paying for it is stealing.
It really is that simple folks. Thieves, rapists, alcoholics and people who don't stop at the stop sign all offer up justifications for what they do.
Doesn't change a damn thing though.
Stealing is stealing. Sometimes things really are that simple..
Guess you missed the part were I stated I was not justifying it, considering I purchased the game. As well as the part about no-one is losing money or gaining money here, thus nothing is stolen from Mojang .
