I supported the project in the provided link. When it asked "Why would you buy this product?", I submitted this:
This situation between similarity in product reminds me of when I watched the animated series 'Starship Troopers' on television. After each time I watched the show, it made me want to play the Blizzard computer game 'Starcraft'.
Several years back, I had given all my Legos to a friend because at one point we had combined our Lego collection, and to make it easier for the both of us, I left it behind when I moved out of state.
This eventually led to a life without Legos for several years. I had eventually become an avid gamer, playing various video games until I had come across one of the most compelling and addictive games I had ever encountered... Minecraft.
The game reminded me of the years back when I built epic buildings with my friends, and eventually led me to begin to rebuild my Lego collection, as I had a desire to have tangible creations, rather than virtual data subject to the instability of player run servers, or my ever aging hard drive.
I would love to have Legos to inspire my Minecraft creations, and Minecraft to inspire my Lego creations.
Sorry, I like your idea, but I don't think this is good enough. I mean, where is the potential of this? The sets are boring and not very exciting (not that they could have been much better). I think it was made better by example. Minecraft block sets (packages with different blocks of LEGO) and mob-packs (I see that some have suggested it before:). Sorry, I love minecraft and Lego, but this was not a very good idea. You should go for the block sets and mob-packs and focus on a different game, with more opportunities for models, such as Ratchet & Clank or similar. I'm not saying i dont like this, because I REALLY LIKE YOUR IDEA, but people won't buy this. :'(
Anyway, i'll vote for this set, because i think it is a good idea, and i LOVE Minecraft!
I supported it on Cuusoo and I really hope you get to 10,000 by the end of December and there would be a Mojang pack:
Team Mojang pack:
Includes the minifigures: Notch with Mojang cape, Steve with MoneCon cape, special diamond armor on one of the minifigure stands with just grey body parts where there is no armor, and finally, a creeper.
The Setup: It would be a mine with diamond, gold, and iron ore, as well as lava and obsidian. This could also have an end portal in a chunk of stronghold, and a nether portal with nether blocks around it :biggrin.gif:
I'm guessing we will see this within 1-2 months. And you and Lego might need Notch's permission for this, as it is his game.
Also, once I get this, I will buy a bunch of sets, different and the same, and just roleplay the whole thing! :tongue.gif:
Ad a year to that and yu hav a pretty accurate prediction. It takes about 12 months from the point they start designing it to get it on the shelves. But it might be shorter when using this website since they already have the idea and stuff like that worked out.
Also, Notch has already agreed to allow LEGO to do this when the time for liscensing comes, so I don't think that that's a problem.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Was one of the collaborators who worked with LEGO on the original Minecraft set.
the only problem I have is that the minifigs wont be square like normal minecraft...guys (Steve, other players)also the blocks would need to be around two bricks tall, since the minifigs are four bricks tall (not including hats, wigs, etc).
