Since September 14th (release date for 1.8), we've seen a lot of people complaining about versions 1.8 and 1.9, also known as the Adventure Update. Now, lets analyze the logical explanation for this problem.
Some people may think that the problem here is that Mojang is adding A LOT of RPGish stuff to the game, making it not so sandbox. But as you can see in my analysis about complaints, Minecraft is as sandbox as it has always been. None of the things that actually make this game a Sandbox game have changed, they're all still there, but with new stuff.
Then, if Minecraft bases haven't changed, what is the problem? Well, the problem is pretty obvious and clear: Minecraft 1.8 and 1.9 add way too much stuff in a way too short period of time. Since the game was released, there is no version that adds so much new stuff as these two. It was called the Adventure Update, and there is a reason for that, because in only a few versions, they have to add all the RPG related stuff to the game, in a very short time because they have to release the game in November. Now, you may think that I'm wrong, that 1.8/1.9 didn't add so much stuff, but then I invite you to see this (to complete) new features list for both versions I've made:
1.8:
- New Mobs:
Enderman (with new item drop: Ender Pearl)
Cave Spider
Silverfish.
- New biomes and world stuff:
Oceans
Swamps
Rivers
Mountains
- New terrain generation code:
Abandoned Mineshafts
Strongholds
NPC Villages
Ravines
- New Blocks:
Stone Brick (+Slabs +Stairs)
Brick Slabs and Stairs
Iron Bars
MelonsGlass Panes
Fence Gates
- Improved lighting.
- Food system. Added a hunger meter. It goes down when you move, mine, fight or anything. Food heals that meter instead the health.
New food items too:
Raw chicken
Raw Beef
Coocked Chicken
Steaks
Melon Slices
- Creative mode added to the game.
- Sprinting. You can actually "run" now.
- New farming stuff. You can plant Melon or Pumpkin Seeds and they will grow around the central stem.
- Changed most combat mechanics (added critical hits, charging bows, more animations, sword blocks with right click, etc. Also added Experience Orbs, which were useless in this version.
- Changed several mobs drops, added new particle effects and other stuff.
1.9:
- Enchantments for your weapons and tools.
- New Biome: Mushroom Islands, with a new block, Mycelium (some sort of weird colored grass)
- New items:
Glistering Melon
Ghast Tears
Eye of Ender
Brewing Stand
Enchantment TableMagma Cream
Spider Eye
Fermented Spyder Eye
Blaze Powder
Glass Bottle
Nether Wart
Blaze Rod
Lily Pad (in Swamp Biome)
13 new music discs
- Hardcore mode added to the game.
- Animal breeding (with animal babies).
- Potion/Brewing system.
- New Mobs:
Ender Dragon (Some kind of The End boss mob)
Snow Golem
Blaze (The Nether)
Magma Cube (The Nether)
Baby Chicken/Pig/Wolf/Sheep/Cow/Mooshroom
- New Realm:
The End, a world full of Enderman which you can (so far) only legally get out by dying and where Ender Dragons will be found in the future.
Ender Portal in strongholds to get there.
- The Nether improvements:
New blocks:
Nether Brick
Nether Stairs
Nether Fence
Added Nether Strongholds.
- "Level" on the experience bar. Experience can be used for enchanting.
- Round Moon and Sun, now they rise in the east and the moon now has phases.
- NPCs in Villages (not know yet how much of them will we see).
- Item Reparairing system.
As you can see, it's simply way too much new stuff. If they had added all this stuff in, let's say, 4 or 5 versions, something like 1.8, 1.9, 1.10, 1.11 and 1.12, then maybe people would have had time to get used to it, but in just 1 month, they added so much stuff that it wasn't possible for people to assimilate it, and there was only one possible ending for that: They get angry and complain because Mojang probably added more stuff in 1.8 and 1.9 than all other versions of the game put together.
In time, some people who hated the adventure update have come to like it, and eventually most people will probably accept it, because if we think about it, it's not a bad update, they add some pretty good stuff, and even if 50% of it is quite useless, and some of the new things are quite weird, it has mostly improved the game. And as I said so many times, EVERY SINGLE THING that makes this game a sandbox game is still there, you still have an open world, you can still go wherever you want, you may die but you can simply go back to where you were since you don't have lives or anything like that, so it's just a sandbox game with some RPG-like stuff. And most of the new non-sandbox features are optional. You can deactivate NPC Village/Stronghold generation when you create the map. You can change difficulty to Peaceful to avoid mobs.
In other words, people will complain for a long time, until they actually get used to it and start accepting the game as it is. Adventure Update added way too much stuff, we know, but the problem right now is that it is new. By the end of the year it won't be new anymore and most people will probably forget about 90% of the things they were complaining about. Of course, there will always be people who loves 1.7.3 or older, just like new we have Alpha-version lovers, that won't change, but for that people I have only three word: Downgrade Minecraft Google :wink.gif:
Conclusion
Adventure Update is way too big for just 2 or 3 versions, but it includes a lot of interesting features that may be even improved a lot in the future. It has a lot of bugs, but that's because it is new, and also a BETA. Code is freezed and until MineCon no more updates will be done, and they will spend their time solving all that problems people have been complaining about for 1 month. After they finish that, and actually launch the game, a lot of people will come to like this update, and this place will be a lot more quite until they add some (post full-release) new important stuff.
If you like Adventure Update already, congrats! If you don't, give it some time, you may come to like it some day.
As usual, remember english isn't my native language, so if you find anything wrong, just tell me and I'll do something about it, and if you think I should add/change any information, also let me know.
First the flame:
Congrats you know how to copy and paste from the wiki for the list of complete features added.
Now to not flame:
I agree completely with what you said about how people need to give the update time to sink in. People hate change, its a fact. BUT, I do not agree with the "to much added things" part. I personally enjoy all the things added, it's given me a reason to spend hours and hours and hours playing again trying to get different potions and enchantments and fighting. Fighting is fun now (where I hated it before).

You and I have a VERY different definition for "copy and paste". For me, it means exactly what it says, copying and pasting stuff exactly as they are. Though, I'm not sure what is it for you.
Anyway, I don't say it is too much as a bad thing, I just said that it's a lot of stuff in just a few updates. I don't have any problem with all the stuff added. Anyway, I don't think they do such a big update again :/ and if they do it, it would probably be a long time from now.

My point of the copy and paste comment was that all this information and more is on the wiki and has been for awhile, this is not new information and I'm sure everyone who cares has already seen this list several times. I know I have. You just prettied up the list.

Seems pretty negative. Though I am just throwing in my 2 cents, I don't really care. People can like it or not. I personally love it, that was my long winded point.

And what list do you want me to put in my post? I can only post REAL changes from the version, and no matter how you do the list, they're always the same, so please, don't talk if you don't have a clue about what you're talking about, and you OBVIOUSLY don't. Anyway, you may think whatever you want, I couldn't care less, because I've seen way too much people like you, and I will never understend what does your "kind" get from trying to make other people look bad with comments like that.
You seem to have pretty weird notions about how to talk to people, about what is copying and pasting, and about what's negative. I would suggest you to read more books, because your point of view is quite limited.
LOL really? You know nothing about me and you are going to insult my intelligence? Then you are going to lecture ME about how I don't know how to talk to people or more accurately, I have "weird notions" on how to talk to people? Hypocrite. Classic internet dweller, sad really. I thought our conversation was perfectly fine, I wasn't be rude except for the first comment which I specifically pointed out.
I will say again, this time WITHOUT attempted to be less rude. How can you say YOU MADE THE LIST in the the spoiler when a list has ALREADY been around since the DAY the updates come out. Maybe you typed it out GOOD FOR YOU, but you wasted your time as ANYBODY who reads the wiki have already seen this list a thousand times. And trust me I read the wiki every day and anybody who wants good information easily should and probably do also read the wiki.
Might I ask, what exactly don't I know about? I have had perfect valid responses to you without the terrible grammar EVERYONE seems to have and have been perfectly pleasant with our little exchange. With the exception of that ONE statement in my first post which AGAIN I will point out I SPECIFICALLY pointed out was flaming, albeit for a valid reason.
It is fun how no one actually voted for "I don't like it/I hate it". I wonder where the hundreds of users complaining about them were when I made this topic lol
