Sure, most of us don't particularly worry about what we do in Minecraft, because there no real world implications. Still, sometimes you have to ask yourself...
-Is it unethical to kill a peaceful intelligent/humanoid being for their loot, and do endermen and villagers fall into this category?
-Is it unethical to automatically spawn and process mobs, even if they're hostile?
-Is it unethical to forcefully breed mobs, and separate babies from their parents at birth?
-Is it unethical to eat rotten flesh, under the presumption that it's cannibalism?
-What's the most humane way to kill passive mobs, and are there any that are unacceptably inhumane?
-Are there any other ethical boundaries that you wonder about?
-Most importantly, do any of these ethical issues stop you from doing them?
Ummmmm... Aw, now I can't play minecraft without my Karma meter blowing my head up.
But, for killing passive mobs, I'd say fist, any item that's not a sword, or a wooden sword (It takes like 7 hits), but diamond sword is most humane. One hit, one kill, dead before it feels the pain.

Do you know what happened when the unstoppable force met an immovable object? The immovable object and the unstoppable force exploded in an unimaginable amount of energy and caused the Big Bang to occur. Now get a job, philosophers, and leave it to the scientists.
At the end of the day, though, think about it. It's just a bunch of 1's and 0's, so what you do in there won't affect who you are IRL.

Personally the only line I won't cross is destroying NPC villages (note: I don't play 1.9pre so I'm just referring to the buildings themselves; were I to use 1.9 I would murder the NPCs with reckless abandon) and I won't deliberately allow my wolves to come into harm's way.

When humans where first alive and roaming what do you think we did we did the exact same thing that we do in mincraft even worse now its a game get over it

.... The hell's your problem? I never criticized anybody's method of play. I just stated that there are only two things I don't do in Minecraft, and I did so in a way that implied that it's something I personally do, not something EVERYBODY should do.

Chill the hell out.

Well, even so, calm down. The OP wasn't criticizing people either, he was more just asking what "moral" rules other players live by. A lot of players (at least a lot of the people I know who play MC) have a few "moral guidlines" that they don't break, IE killing wolves, burning forests, etc. It's not intended as an attack on "unethical" players, just a question.

Yea i didnt mean it to be harsh i was just writing about what i think it is like :tongue.gif:
I agree with cave johnston i dont care what ppl think of me when i play minecraft. Theres nobody breathing down my shoulder everytime on i log on. I blow up testificates cause its fun, i burn down there house cause i think it looks cool, i make a flood gate full of lava because it takes time to do it. Its my world.
The only thing I cant do is cut down a tree and not place a sapling. Empty feeling. (especially pine forests.)
-Is it unethical to eat rotten flesh, under the presumption that it's cannibalism?
Zombies appear to be a seperate species rather than the Romero "infection" zombies (or voodoo ones too I suppose), so as they are not human, I am not a cannibal :smile.gif:
Actually my skin is that of an orc, so eating humans is fine anyway!
There's not much I won't do... but I have to admit that in almost any game killing totally innocent humanoids makes me feel weird. Same with the wolves.
I also sometimes get a twinge when I find that I've deforested like half of a biome, just because I prefer edging my structures with decorative logs. I often find myself re-planting trees just because it makes me feel like The Lorax.

I'm curious to see the reactions.
-Do we ever take into account that enderman is an endangered species? (lol)

Of course not, but for the sake of immersion... just something to think about. :wink.gif:

I can understand that logic. My village rule is more out of pragmatic morality than anything sentimental (why destroy a perfectly good shelter?).
The wolf thing, on the other hand, is just because I like dogs. :biggrin.gif:
Same but my friend kills them to tick me off :unsure.gif:

Am I a bad person?
